Soon after I received my letter we had headed to Diagon Alley to get my supplies. Mrs. Weasley was tight lipped about the whole thing. Part of me was frustrated, but part of me was grateful. I didn't want to be anyone but me. I didn't want to be pressured into being someone I wasn't.
Finally it was the day for us to leave, I was still excited no matter what I felt about knowing who I was. I was going to a school of magic. I was going to find out who my parents were. I knew my family wasn't real the moment I woke up to the world. I wasn't like them at all.
"Come on, Amaris." Ginny whined, "It shouldn't take you so long!"
"Ginny!" Mrs. Weasley hollered
"Sorry Amaris," Ginny sighed, "Sorry Mum."
"Good girl," Mrs. Weasley beamed at her daughter
Ginny looked at me and rolled her eyes. Then she proceeded to drag me along to the Hogwarts Express. I froze in place, nervousness almost knocking me over. Ginny looked at with concern but Fred shook his head and she walked away. Fred came over quickly and held me. He knew exactly what I needed. I looked up at him and smiled.
"Let's go to Hogwarts." I said
"Okay," Fred smiled back and took my hand to lead me
"Follow us, Amaris." Ginny exclaimed proudly
"Okay," I replied and watched her face light up like a young child showing an adult something they don't know
I followed close behind grasping Fred's hand tightly. He winced and I blushed. He chuckled and kissed my forehead. This just increased my blush and Hermione shook her head. I stuck my tongue out at her. Then, realizing what I did, I looked around me. Fred was laughing, Ginny was biting her lip, Ron wasn't paying attention and Harry had burst out in laughter.
Soon a man who looked like a professor intercepted us. He spotted me and walked quickly over. I examined his long grey beard and half moon spectacles. Hermione hushed us all with a wave of her hand. Fred didn't stop laughing though and she glared at him until he did.
"Hello," The professor said, "I am Professor Dumbledore and I presume you are Ms. Tonks?"
I simply nodded. I was too nervous to say anything. Fred squeezed my hand reassuringly and smiled.
"I would like to speak with you in my office, quickly, if you do not mind?" Professor Dumbledore said and I felt as if this was less of a question, more of a command, yet I knew I would do as he asked even if it wasn't a command
"Yes, sir." I nodded politely
"Ms. Tonks," Professor Dumbledore laughed, "You may call me whatever you wish but do not feel like you need to be formal with me."
"Oh," I blushed and I heard Fred chuckle
I turned and gave him a look. He didn't stop so I smacked his arm. He raised his hands in mock surrender, a look of fake fear plastered on his face.
"Ms. Tonks," Professor Dumbledore sat behind his desk, "I am guessing that you know the family you grew up with isn't your real family?"
"Yes," I replied calmly
"I wish to tell you who your real parents are but to do so I need you to remain silent. I have a speech to give in a few moments and you have a feast to get to just the same. Can you do this for me?" Professor Dumbledore asked
"Yes," I instantly kept my mouth shut
"Now, we may begin. Your true parents are Andromeda and Edward Tonks." Professor Dumbledore stated, "I understand that this might be strange but your parents wish to see you over Christmas break. Now, since you are close the Weasleys Fred might invite you over for the holidays. If you chose to accept then your parents will be expecting you over the summer. However if you do not they extend their permission, if invited, to stay at the Weasley's over the summer. They do wish to meet you and introduce you to your sister."
With that Professor Dumbledore stood up and we both went our separate ways to the feast.
