When you hear hospital, you instantly think of injurys. It is a dreaded place filled with glum patients who are itching to get home.
The brown cushioned chair outside of the door is my new friend. I have sat on it for the last three days, waiting for Millie to escape this prison and lay in my arms. The doctor said my stress level will reach to high of a point if I stay depressed in this chair, but my princess is currently getting surgery for something that I caused.
"Mr. Horan? Please come in," the doctor said, still sporting his brown clipboard.
I suspiciously walked into Millie's hospital room and looked at her. Her face was pale and her eyelids were shut, as if glued together.
"When is she gonna wake up?" I wondered, pondering if I should ask him how her condition is.
"That's what I wanted to speak to you about," he said, pulling a chair by the foggy window and sitting on it. "From her heart rate and monitor we had manufactured, we discovered an irregular pattern in the heartbeat, which is normally caused by shock. When Amelia was attacked by the jellyfish, shock overcame her, making her almost drown. That is how her lungs expanded. Now, the poison has evaporated, and her lungs are back to normal size," he scribbled something with the black pen he was gripping and showed me what he scrawled. "This, right here, is what her heartbeat looks like. See how it goes up for two measures, then down very quickly?" he pointed, following the lines with his wrinkled pale fingers.
"Well, this pattern is very rare. Her heart may start to skip a beat, leading to regular hospital checks and more. Unfortunately, we can do nothing about this; it is quite an arduous task, but, it is not threatening," he reassured me, patting my back while fixing his glasses.
"So, she'll be fine?'' I asked, crossing my fingers behind my back and holding a large inhale of breath.
"Yes, Amelia will be fine," he confirmed, making me let out the breath.
After the doctor left, I sat in a chair in the gloomy hospital room. With my presence, I felt the air that was taken from other people perishing and given to Amelia, so she'd go back to normal. It made me smile, thinking that my thoughts were this way, I was finally optimistic.
"Fuck yeah I am! I'm finally optimistic, I'm awesome " I yelled to myself.
"Your very conceited, Nialler," I heard a voice giggle. My head snapped as I quickly turned around, looking at the laughing girl behind me.
"Your awake!" I screamed, giddily running to the side of her bed.
"Mhmm, state the obvious," she mocked, giving me a hug. "I'm glad I survived that surgery. I've had enough sleep lately. God, I'm gonna regret saying that soon," she muttered.
"I missed you so much," I said, my head muffled in the crook of her neck.
"I've missed you too."
