As the party went on Jack came up to me.
“Hey, come look at this.”
Their single was nominated “Best song” on Kerrang.
I half smiled, “That's great I nudged him.”
“I want you to try this.”
He brung out a clear iced drink.
I took a sip out of the straw. It was sweet at first.
“Mmmmm,” I said.
“I know right,” Jack laughed.
I squinted my eyes.
“You wanna spit it out?”
“Mhmmm,” I said.
Jack brought the trashcan to me.
Everyone was leaving, and soon it was just Lisa, Jack, Me, and Alex.
Alex had ordered Chinese and we were waiting for it to arrive.
“So Angel, how does it feel to be hanging out with the best rockstars.”
“I mean, it’s okay.”
I laughed, “I’m kidding- but seriously, I’m really proud of you guys.”
“You’ve evolved so much.”
“Awww,” Alex and Jack said.
I chuckled, “Cheers to making the best album.”
“Cheers,” everyone said.
The door rang and I stood up to go get it.
“No, I got it,” Alex said.
I looked to my right and saw Lisa roll her eyes.
Then I looked to see if Jack saw, but he was scrolling instagram on his phone.
I could tell by his voice that it was the Chinese food.
“Hold on,” Alex said and went to go get the money.
“It’s fine, I got it.”
“It’s the least I can do-”
Jack cut me off, “If you don’t let her pay, she’ll bug you about it.”
Alex laughed, “Okay, but I’m paying next time I see you.”
“Okayyyy,”I said with emphasis.
“I mean it,” he chuckled.
We had discussed how things had changed since high school.
I had told them how I wanted to be a graphic design artist.
I still do, but I had kind of put it off for a while.
Ever since I had created the “album cover,” other opportunities had came by. I just never considered it as a real job.
After we were done eating I excused myself.
When I came back in the livingroom, I decided it was time to leave.
“Alright, I had fun, but I think it’s time for me to get back.”
“I’ll drive you home.” Jack said.
“Make sure to live it up, since tomorrow night you're leaving.”
“Wait what?” Jack asked.
“You didn’t tell him.”
“I’ll talk about it later,” I said.
Jack opened the door and said bye to Lisa and Alex.
“What do you think about Lisa,” I asked.
“Why didn’t you tell me?”
“I was, the night I stayed over. I just didn’t have time.”
“Where are you going?”
“I’m going to visit my parents.”
“For how long?”
“Twelve months Angel?”
“Jack, they really need me. I’m planning to make amends, and just keep them company. It’s been years.”
“I understand, but it’s just that I’ll miss you.”
I looked out the window.
“I’ve seen you have that face all day.”
“No, it’s not.”Jack raised his voice.
He could I was surprised, so he continued on.
“I hate it when you're sad. Especially when I know I can’t make you happy.”
“I know that ever since we started talking again, it was never the same as before.”
“Are you cheating on me. Tell me the truth.”
“No, at least not now.”
“Are you even capable of communicating with me?”
“I saw you got a text on your phone yesterday.”
“Who,” he asked.
“Oh Tracy, when you were gone the first week, we hooked up.”
“Tracy’s my ex, ever since we slept together she won’t leave me alone.”
“I felt so bad after that I took it out on you.”
We pulled up near the curb.
“Listen, I don’t want to fight. Especially since it’s almost your last night.”
“Me neither Jack, the truth is that the first time I met you I liked you but I didn’t say anything and I pretended that I hated you but then I met Alex and we clicked but then I saw you were friends with him and he had a girlfriend so I backed off but then we hung out and Cassadee broke up with him and then at dinner you asked me out and I wanted to say yes but I couldn’t and it was too late but then Alex asked me out and I felt bad because we kind of dated but we didn't because it was never official and then we were kind of official but then alex tried to kiss me but then I backed away because I still loved you but then he told me you weren't capable of having a relationship.”
“Woah,” Jack said.
“I zoned out on almost everything you said but I want you to know that I still love you. You should have told me all of this was going on in you're head.”
I realized I hadn’t gotten out of the car yet.
“Can you stay over with me, it’s almost my last day.”
“I can’t, I have soundcheck early in the morning.”
I stepped out of my car and made my way to the door.
My keys were stuck, so I kept on fumbling around with them until I felt arms wrap around me.
“If I stay, I have to leave early,” he whispered in my ear.
We finally got in bed and he layed down next to me.
I looked in my bag, and forgot I took the box Alex gave me and put it in there.
I searched for my lotion, but instead found a backstage pass.
I put it back in my back and Jack pulled me close.
It was late at night and I was half asleep. I could make out only these three words Jack had said to me.
“I love you,”
Alex was wrong, Jack was capable of keeping a relationship.
