“Hi, I’m here to pick up a prescription for Holly Renee.” Louis tells the pharmacist while taking out his credit card. $32 as usual for the tranquilizers the doctor wants me to take for five days. Five days from now I’ll be in treatment. I’ll have to say good bye to all my friends and family for a minimum of two months. How will I possibly survive without Louis? The pharmacist gives Louis a few instructions that he already has memorized before giving him the medication and letting us leave.
As we walk out I hold on to Louis hand like my life depends on it, and it probably does. “If I had come home a little sooner this wouldn’t happened.” He says, blaming himself for my own tragedy.
“It wasn’t your fault Lou, its mine.” I say trying to force him to look me in the eye. He keeps looking away and we don’t speak the entire ride back to his apartment.
When we walk inside Louis throws his keys on the counter and pours me a glass of juice before handing me two tiny pills. I down the juice and the small medicine slides easily down my throat. I change into the pajamas that I keep at Louis house for emergencies and kiss Lou before climbing into his bed. Ten minutes later I feel the mattress give way under new weight seconds before Louis arms are wrapped around my waist with his lips pressed to my neck. The medicine kicks in and I drift into subconscious.
“If she wakes up give her two of these with some juice. I’ll be back in about a half hour.” I strain to hear Lou in the other room. The front door shuts and I groan rolling over onto my stomach before wincing in pain and moving back onto my side. Pulling the covers off, I stand off the bed and walk into the living room where one of my best friends sit quietly watching TV.
“Louis told me to give you your medicine if you woke up.” Niall says sensing my entrance. I shake my head and sit beside him on the couch.
“You don’t have to I'm fine.” We sit like that watching whatever is on TV for what seems like hours. I pray Niall won’t break our silence. I’ve hurt him so many times; I can’t bear to see him cry again. My prayers go unanswered when Niall clears his throat.
“What happened Holly? Why would you do this again?” Tears spring to my eyes but I blink them away.
“I couldn’t handle it Ni I'm so sorry. I’m going to get help this time.” He nods and the front door opens. Louis walks in holding two bags of Chinese food and places them on the counter before looking up.
“Holly why are you up? I told Niall to give you your medicine if you woke up.” He says glaring at Niall for not following his instructions.
“I didn’t want them; I’ve only got five days I don’t want to sleep the whole time.” I say and he nods.
“Come eat then, I got your favorite.”
