Their World in my Hands

My choices can change the lives of the ones I love, the ones I hate and the ones I don't know. I am a witch, an undetectable. It's all new to me, I could lead us to greatness or to devastation and I'm not ready for the power, but I have to be. Everyone's relying on me, I have their world in my hands and I cannot let them down...

7. Books and Ice Cream

I had 9 galleons and 6 sickles left after buying all my school supplies. I stopped by Eeylops Owl Emporium to have a look at the owls. It was an amazing sight, owls of all shapes and sizes, from tiny screech owls to large beautiful snowy owls, colour coded from darkest to lightest, there must have been hundreds of them but only one caught my eye. She was a beautiful white barn owl, the brown markings around her face formed a perfect heart, she was all I ever wanted. I checked the price. The owl was 10 galleons. I felt my heart sink inside, If only I hadn't had lunch...

That night, I slept like I had never slept before. It felt like the minute my head hit the pillow I was out. I had had dinner in the leaky cauldron earlier before being shown to my room, I read my textbooks in the small chair by the fireplace for an hour, then went to bed, to tired to carry on.

Waking up the next morning I felt a new sense of freedom. I had no rules, I had no bedtime, I had no one to check up on me. It was perfect. Diagon alley here I come. I packed a bag full of necessary items and set off.

I wandered over to the north side of diagon alley and stopped at Florean Fortescue's Ice Cream Parlour. The ice-cream displays had every flavour I could think of, and tons more! There was even butterbeer and Bertie botts every flavour beans flavours. I ordered a choc mint ice cream and sat at the counter with my new school books. I opened A History of Magic by Bathilda Bagshot. And began to read, for I had a lot of catching up to do, and these books were so much more interesting than muggle text books. When I was about a chapter into A History of Magic, Rose, Hermione's daughter entered the parlor. "Do you mind if I sit here?" She said motioning to the empty seat next to me. "Sure" I replied "Didn't you leave with your family last night?" "No, all the late students are meant to stay here until tomorrow, my dad had to work so they left me at the leaky cauldron... what are you reading?" I showed her the cover of A History of Magic. She laughed and unzipped her bag, it was full of all her school books too. I had a feeling we would be good friends...

With my books in my hand and Rose by my side it was the best day I had had in forever. Florean Fortescue himself kept bringing us free sundaes on the hour, and at lunch, a hotdog and shake. It was great having a friend from a wizarding family. She could tell me about all the stuff I didn't know being muggle born and I could tell her more about the muggle appliances mentioned in our books. Before we knew it, it was 5:00 in the afternoon. We decided we should head back to the leaky cauldron to pack our trunks. On the way down the winding street I told Rose about my experiences with professor Mcgonagall and what my life was like when I was a muggle. In return she told me about what happened when she got her letter. Her parents were so disappointed when she didn't get her acceptance letter at 11 that when she got accepted into the late student programme they were so pleased they gave her more money than she had ever had in her life to buy whatever she wanted. She bought an adorable brown owl which she named aluco. We talked about hogwarts and how excited we were about getting there and all the things we could do and the castle itself.

"You keep going, I um... Have to stop by somewhere" Rose said as we walked past flourish and blots. "Ok, I'll see you at dinner" I replied. It felt lonely walking back to the leaky cauldron without Rose, it had only been a day but I felt that we had been friends forever.

I was in the leaky cauldron before I knew it. I ran up the stairs and entered room 11. I neatly folded all my clothes and robes and placed them carefully in my new trunk. Next, all my school books went in, followed by my wand. I then took my wand back out again. It was beautiful. I shut my trunk and took three steps back. The wand locked perfectly into my hand. I knew what I was going to do, my wand then started to grow warm, as if it sensed it was about to be used. I opened my mouth "Win-" a jet of light streamed out of my wand before I had finished the spell.

My trunk was levitating 5 feet in the air. This wasn't normal. All the wands worked perfectly on me in the store, but this one was exceptional. Mr. Ollivander and Hermione know something I don't and I don't like being kept in the dark.
