She had to explain it to me over and over again Just to wrap my head around it. I'm a witch, I'm going to hogwarts, I get to side along apparate with professor Mcgonagall before going to diagonal alley and getting all my school supplies, she will be back Friday to pick me up. It's actually happening, I'm actually a witch.
"I will be seeing you on Friday I expect?" said Mcgonagall sternly as we sat on the white leather couch in the living room."I surely hope, I just have one question," I replied "Is Harry potter real as well""You've read the muggle book haven't you" "yes" she rolled her eyes and said "yes" heaving a great sigh...
The week trailed on slowly. A week of patience and desire. I spent every spare second of every day reading Harry potter for the 59th time, trying to inhale every little piece of information. I then went on to read my copy of the muggle versions of fantastic beasts and where to find them, quidditch throughout the ages and the tales of beedle the bard.
I had to explain to all my friends I was leaving. Melanie was upset, probably the only one, I wanted to tell her the truth because she also loved Harry potter. I decided she could keep my secret so on Thursday I quickly grabbed my acceptance letter and went to school.
In the car my mum spoke to me for the first time about the trip to hogwarts. "I'm going to take you to the store tonight to buy some warmer clothing, it will be cooler there" she's the only one in my family who wasn't happy about my new found abilities, she's always seen witches as fakes and now I'm one. In fact, she spent the last 3 days trying to convince me not to go while Hayley cried in the corner about it not being fair "We're also going to need to give you money for your school supplies" I never thought about that, I need galleons, sickles and knuts. Will Australian money be able to be exchanged into wizarding money at gringotts?
Going into school that day, I was nervous. I had to pack all my muggle school supplies and say goodbye to all my teachers and friends. Going up the steps, I came across Melanie "Hey Mel, can you come to the bathroom with me?" We walked into the bathroom and just as I hoped, it was empty.
"Ok I have to tell you something" I said in a whisper "You know how I told you I was moving to St. Peter's""Yeah" she replied, it felt like her blue eyes where staring into my very soul, would this be the last time I saw them? "Just read this" I gave her the letter and her face changed from an expression of confusion to amusement. "Hahaha, very funny Grace" I didn't even care that she didn't believe me, I decided I wanted to keep this to myself. I laughed along with her, trying to figure out if I was disappointed or relieved that she didn't know.
My mum picked me up halfway through school. I was a little bit sad thinking about never coming back here but my spirits enlightened when I imagined flying broomsticks, wands and trips to hogsmede. Hogsmede. Did I get a permission slip? I'm starting to get more and more worried about this school.
Going into target, I found that the winter clothes had just come out. My mum was at the bank getting out money for tomorrow. I carefully selected 3 sweaters, 2 pairs of thick leggings, 2 scarfs and a pair of jeans.
That night, I grabbed the smallest suitcase I could find, thinking I could get a brand new hogwarts trunk in diagonal alley tomorrow. I packed my new winter clothes, a few t-shirts and a pair of shorts. I couldn't leave my Harry potter books behind so I squeezed them in to, along with the fake marauders map I bought off eBay, at least it would show me where the classes were. At last, I packed my Australian money in a small purse I found and a string of fairy lights, they were solar powered, not electric. I settled in to bed that night, drifting into sweet dreams.
