I woke up to the consistent *beep beep beep beep* of my alarm clock on Monday morning. I groaned. I felt a little better, my headache had gone away at least. I sighed and rolled over, suddenly I remembered.
Mathew had run away. I needed to find him as soon as I can. I knew I couldn't just go out in the woods, either. That would just be suicidal.
I got up and put on a close crop top that was midnight blue and some galaxy leggings. I knew I should go to Maggie's house, so I fixed my hair up in a sock bun and headed outside, not even bothering to grab breakfast or coffee.
I walked up the stairs to Maggie's house and go inside. I didn't feel like knocking. I noticed the kitchen was a wreck, broken glasses and pans everywhere. "Maggie?" I said, worriedly.
She walked in the kitchen looking terrible. She wore an oversized sweatshirt, a messy bun, no makeup, and sweatpants and sneakers. She also had red marks all over her face, as if she had been slapped. And very dark circles under her eyes.
"Maggie what the hell happened?!" I nearly screamed.
"Mom happened. " she said angrily. It didn't sound like she was angry at me, though.
"What? She did this to you?" I ask.
"Yeah. " she sighed.
"What? Why? " I ask unbelieving. Maggie's mom was usually pretty nice.
"She got drunk and started hitting me with this shit. " she said, gesturing to the scattered kitchen appliances on the floor. "She told me she's pregnant. With the neighbors kid. "
I gasped. "What? "
"I just fucking told you! We're gonna be late if you don't hurry up. Let's go bitch" she said.
I blinked. Her mom was pregnant? What the hell happened while I was out?
"Anything else happen that I need to know about?" I asked.
She grimaced for a split second, that's how I knew something was up.
"Ask your ex that question" she said and stormed out the door.
We got on the bus and didn't really talk. I knew that everyone was whispering about us, but I didn't care, and I doubted that Maggie did either.
~in gym class~
"Ryder what the hell is up with Maggie. " I asked angrily. Her emotions seemed to be rubbing off on me.
The color in his cheeks reduced to pale white. "Nothing. Why? What did she say? " he was a terrible liar.
"RYDER WHAT HAPPENED! TELL ME!" I scream. The entire gym class goes silent, staring at me and him. His cheeks turned bright red then.
"I... I can't tell you. " he practically whispered.
"WHY THE HELL NOT? " I scream again. The gym teacher was beginning to notice the decrease in screaming in the gymnasium. Gracie and Raven had been practicing cheer, but they marched up to me.
"Tell her what happened. " raven stated. We all knew how bad it could be when she got pissed off.
"Fine. " he said as he grabbed my arm and we walked straight out the door.
"Maggie raped me. At the party, she was drunk and she pulled my pants off and raped me. It was terrible. Then I ran into her at the mall and she kissed me and ran away, all pissed off that I didn't kiss her back. She thinks it's my fault I don't like her back. Sweetheart, please..." He pleaded. I knew I shouldn't trust him, but I had loved him for a long time. He leaned in and kissed me. I kissed him back, of course. His hands slid towards my ass and squeezed it.
"Anna please trust me. Whatever she says, it's a lie. Please.." He moaned as I kissed him again.
He pulled back and kissed my forehead gently.
"Okay" I said.
~at my house, on Friday. Anna hasn't talked to Maggie, she hasn't been at school~
I can't believe that Maggie had raped Ryder. That was not cool. She wasn't on the bus and I didn't see her in the hallway at all this week. She probably didn't have her phone, so I couldn't call or text her, and I didn't have the nerve quite yet to march up to her door. So I stayed there and tried to come up with a way to confront her.
I used my cat as an example for Maggie.
"So I talked to Ryder and he told me what happened. " I said to my cat.
My cat meowed.
"Yeah. So he said you raped him. What the hell Maggie ?! Why would you even think of that! That's straight up breaking girl code you skanky,.. Ugh damn it! I can't think of anything" I said to my cat.
My cat said nothing in return.
I sighed. I had to at least get her side of the story. Maybe Ryder was just too drunk that night to remember the party correctly. Maybe it was some other girl.
I hated the 'maybes' and 'what if's ' running through my head.
"You know what? Screw this. I'm going to talk to her. " I said to my cat. She cocked her head and suddenly sprinted out of the room. I guess it was a sign I should go. So I went.
