Reckless -Complete-

We were like any other teenager, just...more. "Just tell me that it meant something" she pleaded, opening her eyes to me. "Tell me you felt something too." I leaned down and softly pecked her lips, "Of course I did." But when things went wrong, I never could stop the rage. "Noah stop! Don't be stupid! Don't be reckless! Don't be THAT guy! You're scaring me." Sorry... [Sequel/Spin off to Careless]

11. Weary Eyed

Seeing my little brother almost lifeless in a hospital isn't something I've wanted to see. I've never seen him that way and the thought of him being too damaged to wake up scared me.

Three weeks.

I can't wait until they're over because as soon as he's out of this antibacterial hell hole I'm taking him out. He needs new friends and I'm trying to talk my mom into changing him to a new school. It's been a week now and I'm seated in the same chair I have been since the first day. No one else sits here and I think it's the nurses that warn people off my chair because of my sour attitude. I'm waiting for Maddie out here in the waiting room do we could both go in Logan's room together. Visiting hours are almost up and I just want to say goodnight.

I hear footsteps and look up to see Maddie coming towards me with the same sympathetic smile on her face. It's only me and her tonight because my mom just might fall into a deeper depression if she'd have stayed.

"How is he?" she asked. "I haven't gone in yet" I shrugged. "Noah, you shouldn't have waited for me. I told you I'd be late." "I know, I just don't think I can go in there by myself without breaking down." She sighed, trying her best to lift my slouching figure out of the chair. "Let's go then."

Maddie and I walked hand in had, reaching Logan's door in mere moments. I opened it and let Maddie walk in first. I grabbed her by the waist and held her close to me when someone was already in there. I turned on the light to get a better view of whoever it was.

It was a boy with shaggy blond hair, rosy cheeks and wide blue eyes. He was just as shocked to see us as we were of him.

He abruptly stood up and collected and collected what seemed to be an art pad and his backpack. "I'm sorry, I didn't know anyone was still here."

"No, it's fine" Maddie spoke up. I looked at her with a crazed look saying 'we don't even know this kid'.

She playfully pushed me away before walking around Logan's bed to get to him, reaching out her hand. "I'm Maddie, a friend of Logan's." He shook it with a shaky hand, "I'm Zeke, also a friend of Logan's...from school."

The infamous Zeke.

"What are you doing here so late?" I asked, not meaning to sound so harsh but it slipped out.

"I-uh-I usually come after all of you-uh-leave. I'm-ah-you must me Jamie."

I lightly chuckled, "Yeah, Noah actually."

"Well it was nice to meet you both. I should get going" he nervously laughed, starting to walk towards the door. I took the seat on the other side of Logan's bed and sighed. "You can stay, we don't mind" Maddie chirped again.

I rolled my eyes.

"O-okay" Zeke said all too excitedly and went back to his previous seat. Maddie sat at the edge of Logan's bed and grabbed his hand. "Remember at your mom and dads wedding I was a bridesmaid, you were the ring barer and he was a little flower boy. He was so cute" she smiled.

"He was also seven and too old for that shit." "Noah." "What?" I chuckled at her scowl. She was so cute.

"Does Noah talk much at home?" Zeke pipped in. "Uh...yeah?" i said, a bit confused by his question. "Sorry, that might've sounded weird. He doesn't talk much at school. Well, he talks to me but not really to others."

"He gets bullied" I said. "I know...only because of me" he sighed.

"What do you mean?" Maddie asked.

"He's a good friend. He sticks up for me when I can't for myself."

I had the right to be mad. I mean, this boy was the reason behind my little brothers residence in a hospital. But then again, Maddie was the reason behind my numerous black eyes.

"He's brave" I mumbled, staring down at his sleeping figure.

I watched as Zeke lightly blushed while looking down at Logan and then back to the art pad in his lap.

"Your draw?" Maddie asked.

"Uh, yeah but I'm not all that good."

"I'm sure you are, let me see" she insisted, reaching out for it. "O-okay."

Maddie took the art pad and looked at the page that was already open. "Wow" she awed, skating her fingers across the sketch canvas. "Is this Logan?" I leaned and looked the sketch. It looked just like Logan, maybe a little older, and he was laughing.

"It's really good" I smiled. Maddie gave it back to him and nodded in agreement.

"Thanks, I thought you'd be weirded out by it" he lightly chuckled. "How so?" "Because I like your brother" he whispered. "Well...I'm sure he likes you too." "Really?" he smiled. I nodded and looked at Maddie.  "You ready to go?" She nodded and stood up. She kissed Logan's forehead while I squeezed his hand.

"It was nice meeting you Zeke." "You too."

"Will you be here tomorrow?"

"Uh-I don't know- probably not."

"Not meant to be an insult" I chuckled, "I want you here, you're good company. I'm sure Logan will want you here too."

We waved bye one last time and left out of the room.

"That was sweet of you" Maddie teased, wrapping both of her arms around my waist.

"What, being nice to a fellow mate?" I joked in one of my really bad Aussie accents.

She just rolled her eyes and kept her pace next to me.

While waiting for my mom outside of the building I thought about Zeke. He seemed like a nice kid and whenever my brother wakes up I know he'll keep him good company. Zeke was shy and had a glint in his eyes whenever he looked at my little brother.

Maddie brought me out of my thoughts when she stepped in front of me and wrapped her arms around my neck.

"You're zoning out again" he mumbled, pressing her lips against the tip of my nose.

I sighed, "Sorry, I have a lot on my mind."

"How about...we convince your mom to take you to my house and-I don't know-try to get you mind off things." I softly groaned, completely and non-verbally agreeing to whatever she had in mind.

We were at Maddie's house...alone. Her mom went out on a date with Milo and that left us making out in her bedroom.

She was being really handsy, making it harder for me to keep control.

I pulled my lips away from her with a chuckle, "Slow down."

"But we're alone" she pouted.

"You really wanna do this don't you?"

She sighed and slightly tightened her arms around my neck. "No, I mean, I do want to but I'm not in a rush."

"You sure" I teased, raising an eyebrow.

"I just want you to be my first and I wanna do it know."

"Before what?"

"Noah, I've just-"

"Before what Maddie?" I huffed, unwrapping her arms from around me and standing from her bed.

"I've just-I'm sort of-you're bipolar okay!"

"Bipolar? You know that's not funny to joke about."

"You've always been moody though and...I don't know, I thought that after a while you wouldn't wanna be with me anymore" she mumbled, looking down at her lap.

"Why do you think so little of yourself?"

"It's happened before and I'm just scared okay?"

"Geez, Maddie, if that's the only reason you want to do this then why even bother?" I threw on my shirt and grabbed my phone--while she silently watched me--and left the room. I texted my mom, telling her to pick me up.

I went out the front door and leaned against the wall beside it, staring out at the street lights.

I heard the door open but didn't bother to look.

"Noah, come back inside."

"My mom's on her way."

I heard her step outside and the door close behind her.

I tried to ignore her and even stiffened myself when she stepped in front of me and wrapped her arms around my waist, but I ended up embracing her as well and relaxing when she kissed above my heart.

"Don't be mad at me."

I sighed and tenderly kissed her forehead, hoping she'd get the message through her head. "I'm not leaving you Maddie."

She squeezed me a bit tighter and looked up at me with her wide green eyes.

"And I'm not mad at you. I just want to make it special and when you're rubbing against me it makes it ten times more difficult."

She giggled and leaned up to peck my lips. "I'll try not to."

My eyes are heavy and all I want to do is go hong, but the thought of my nightmare coming true really scares me.

I kept waking up from terrors last night. One's where Logan struggles to stay alive in his room and I can't get to him fast enough. My mom says I should try taking sleeping medication to help me fall into a dreamless sleep but I have a better idea to make me...relax.

The final bell rings and school is out. I pack up my things and head to the trailers behind the main building. I'm almost out the door when Maddie's voice echoes through the halls. I silently curse and turn around.

"Where are you going? You're supposed to be walking me home."

"I know, I've just had a lot on my mind and I wanted to...forget."

She raised an eyebrow and gave me an 'are you kidding me?' look. "And how do you think you're gonna do that?"

"Follow me."

I led her out back and once we passed the first trailer she started asking questions.

"Noah, where are we going?"

"What's back here?"

"Why is it so cold?!"

"We better not be going where I think we're going."

"Noah James Payne, take me home!"

I ignored every single one, to exhausted to even take the next step. We finally got there and just like he said, he was here.

"I knew you two would come back."

"Yeah, whatever, how much?" I mumbled. "You're new so you'll get your first two rolls for twenty five. Don't complain because I don't even sell one's for that cheap."

I pulled the money out of my pocket and handed it to him. He dug in his backpack and gave me a small bag with two joints.

"Now leave before someone gets suspicious" he told me with a warning look on his face and I instantly obliged.

"Are you sure about this?" Maddie asked for the third time. We were in her backyard, laying on the grass, ready to light what we held between our fingers.

"Yeah, anything to help me forget." "There's other ways." "I know, but this way is waving it's scent in my face, I'll take it."

"Alright." She lit the lighter that she grabbed from Milo's dresser and burned the end of her joint. She took her first puff and blew it out like a pro.

"Damn, have you done this before?" "No" she giggled, staring up at the sky as she took another drag.

I lit mine and took a puff, instantly coughing when it filled my lungs. Maddie laughed, causing her to choke as well.

After a good five minutes we were all red in the face and even the eyes. Mine was half gone while Maddie's was nearly finished.

"We should do this more often" I drawled. "Definitely."

"You have any food?" "Tacos?" "Hell yeah."

Food, air-freshner, eye-drops and a change of clothes later, I was ready to meet my mom outside.

Maddie pulled me by the shirt to connect her lips to mine and from my lingering high, it made it feel all the better.

"Bye" she whispered, leaving a tender peck before letting go.

"Same thing tomorrow?"

"For sure."

Getting home was depressing as always. No Logan, no fun.

Harry came down the stairs and greeted me. He paused for a moment and his eyes narrowed on me. "Can I talk to you for a second?" I cautiously nodded and gulped as he dragged me by the wrist into the living room.

"When did you start smoking and don't lie to me."

"I didn't stutter."

"I'm not."

"Sure you aren't. Pink, unfocused eyes, foul smell and goofy smile? Yeah, just your everyday five year old" he said sarcastically.

I groaned and crossed my arms over my chest. "I just tried it today."

"And who gave it to you?" "Some year twelve kid at my school."

"You're way to young for that shit." "Well I don't feel like it" I snapped. "Ever since Logan got put in that hospital I can't sleep, I can't even thing straight. I'm failing my math class and barely passing English and I'm a genius!"

"Conceded much?"

"I'm just under a lot of stress."

"And your mom isn't? She has a lot on her plate right now and some shit about you getting high isn't what she needs."

I rolled my eyes, just because he was right.

"Anyway, everyone knows the best stress reliever is sex so-"

"What? It's true."

"I'm fourteen! I'm too young to know that shit."

"Not too young not to swear apparently."

"All I'm saying is don't put more on your mom okay?"

"Oh and your dad's coming over for dinner...which should be interesting."

"He doesn't know your mom and I are dating so I'm wondering how he'll take it when he finds out."

"Considering they were once married and you're his best mate...I think you should hide that pretty face in the bathroom or get some nice running shoes" I snickered while walking into the kitchen.

"So not funny...but, um, I have some new Nike's, you think those'll work?"

A/N: I know it's crappy and I'm soooo sorry.
