Reckless -Complete-

We were like any other teenager, just...more.
"Just tell me that it meant something" she pleaded, opening her eyes to me. "Tell me you felt something too."
I leaned down and softly pecked her lips, "Of course I did."
But when things went wrong, I never could stop the rage.
"Noah stop! Don't be stupid! Don't be reckless! Don't be THAT guy! You're scaring me."

[Sequel/Spin off to Careless]

7. First Days

Getting ready for your first day of high school is a hard process.

New people to meet and impress in some way. I picked out what I usually wear, black t shirt and dark wash jeans. Lot's of people judge me based on my dad. It's really annoying so I don't try and attract more attention than needed.

I brush my teeth and rake my hands through my shaggy hair. I leave out of mine and Logan's bathroom and head downstairs. My mom is making something to eat and I'm glad to see her doing something with a smile. Ever since last week and all that happened with my dad, she's been sad. My dad is a fucking asshole and can go choke on a-...Let me stop.

I join Logan at the table. He's shaking while putting his books into his backpack. I raise an eyebrow at him, "Nervous much" I tease.

He narrows his eyes at me, "Shut up."

"Language" my mom sighs while setting plates in front of us. "Thanks" we both mumble and dig into our pancakes.

"Mom, are you taking Logan and I to school?" "Yup, you guys better be ready by eight or you'll be left."

We finished our breakfast and I went upstairs to grab my bag and phone, checking if I had new messages.

Alex: I hope we have class together :-*

I smirked and tucked my phone into my pocket before going downstairs again and meeting my mom by the door. Logan joined us and my eyes widened at what he was wearing.

"What the hell are you wearing?" I laughed.

My mom scowled and smacked me upside the head. "What?! His button up is tucked in Ma."

"Leave me alone Noah!" Oh Jeesh, he only called me Noah when he was mad. I held up my hands in surrender. "If tucked in shirts, rolled skinnies, high socks and converse are your thing then that's your choice."

I turned and left the house, hearing my mom say "You look fine honey, we both know he's an idiot."

Our car ride was spent listening to my mom telling us rules. We both had phones and were responsible enough to call in a bad situation.

"We're here Logan" she announced as she parked the car in front of the school. "Do you need me to walk you in or even get you to your cla-" "No! I'm sure I can find my way but uh...thanks for the offer" he rushed as he opened the door and slammed it closed before running off into the building.

"You're so embarrassing" I laughed. "Hey, I'm cool." "No one says cool anymore."

We drove another five minutes, getting to my new school...high school. To say I wasn't  a little nervous was a lie. Of course I was. Some of the same people from middle school would be here but most of them are from the neighborhood middle school where I didn't go.

"You ready?" my mom asked. I nodded and went to open the door but my mom laid her hand on my shoulder and when I looked over at her she had a worried expression in her face.

"Highschool is pretty tough and I don't just mean learning but socially too, I want you to be careful okay?"

"Mom, I'm sure I'll be okay."

She let go of my shoulder and rest her forearm on the middle consul so she was turned toward me. "Look, I'm not trying to scare you but there will be people who will judge you" she sighed, bringing her hand up to grasp my chin, "especially by your last name."

I moved my face from her grasp while rolling my eyes, "I wish I didn't."

"Don't say that" she snapped. "If you weren't the way you were...I don't know, you wouldn't be my little Jamie." "You know I don't like that freakin' nickname."

She teasingly smiled, "Oh but you're my baby" she cooed, grabbing my face between her hands. "Mom" I groaned.

"You have a good day today. I'll try and pick you up but Syd and I are having lunch so I don't know" she said and kissed my forehead, letting go of my face and waving me away. I opened the car door and stepped out, closing it behind me. "Love you!" she called after me. I know she said it extra loud just to embarrass me. "You too" I chuckled, waving her off as I walked into the building.

It's huge.

There were people everywhere and lots of talking. I went straight upstairs where I knew my first class was, world history. I didn't know anyone in here and the teacher seemed alright. His name 'Mr. T' was writhed on the board. Clever.

Sadly we had assigned seats and I took mine in the second row. In front of me was a girl with really dark brown hair that touched her shoulder blades. To my right was some shy looking dude and my right was another guy that looked half asleep. I checked my phone and saw that class was going to start in two minutes. I took out my notebook and pencil when someone behind me tapped on my shoulder. I looked behind me and there was another girl with beach blonde hair and bright blue eyes.

She smiled brightly when I locked eyes with her. "Yeah?" "I was wondering if you had a pencil because, ya know, not that prepared."

I lightly chuckled and searched through my bag for another one and brought it out, turning back around to hand it to her. "Thanks, I'll give it back." "Keep it."

Mr. T started our lesson when the bell rang and he was hilarious. We didn't learn much but he let us meet the people around us and gave us some papers of what we'll be learning this semester. I met the guy to my left, Kenton, before he passed out on his desk and the guy to my right, Lenny. I turned to the girl behind me. "What's your name?" I asked. "Marley" she giggled.

"Noah" I said back. "Trust me, I know." I rose an eyebrow in confusion. "Don't act like you don't know why you're basically famous." Realization came to me and I wanted to roll my eyes but I stopped myself. "Oh, right." "I heard about what happened, sorry" she said in sincere tone. I shrugged, "My dad's an asshole so whatever." She laughed and brought out a pen. "Give me your arm" she said, holding out her hand. I grinned, already know what she was getting ready to do.

The ball of the pen tickled my arm as she wrote her number. "Just if you get a little...lonely" she winked.

The class was over a little over half an hour after that and everyone filed out of the room while I was still putting away my things. I looked over to see Kenton still sleeping. I shook him and he popped up with drool on his cheek. I laughed at her and clapped his back. "Later man" I said and walked out the room.

My next class was Biology and I didn't really meet anyone there. We took a lot of notes and already had homework.

Now we had lunch, the hard part. I just met people and I wasn't just going to approach them and ask if I could sit with them. I was gonna head to the library when someone nearly knocked me over from behind. "Noah!" I turned to see Maddie and she looked...different.

Her hair was straightened and she was wearing some type of makeup that made her eyes glow.

"Don't 'hey' me, where the hell have you been all day? I don't know anyone, not even Donnie is in my class." "Wait, Donnie is here? I thought he got held back." "Nope, he made up some classes over the summer and now he's here." "And you're still with him?" "Yeah, why would I not?" she asked like the answer was as clear as day.

That just crushed my ego. I thought that whatever happened at her house would of changes something but I guess it didn't. "There he is now" she chirped, pointing over my shoulder. I turned to see him stride over with a wide smirk on his face. He brushed right passed me and took Maddie in his arms, kissing her roughly while she practically moaned against him.

What. The. Hell.

I rolled my eyes and walked the other way. That's bullshit.

The rest of my day went alright up until I found out I had Geometry with Donnie and Maddie and Alex AND Marley.

We could sit wherever we wanted so I chose to sit beside Marley. "You again" she laughed. "Yup."

"How weird, now we can be like best friends" she joked in a silly voice. I laughed at her and pulled out my notebook. Alex was seated a few seats away but when looked eyes and she half smiled at me when I nodded her way. "I hope our teacher isn't annoying, I can't handle that fourth period" Marley mumbled. "Same."

This lady walked in who I guessed was our teacher, Ms. Skye.

She had us fill out some papers and even at some point go in front of the whole class and introduce ourselves. When it was Alex's turn she introduced herself, said what school she came from and named who she knew. "I know, Matt, Donnie, Kyra and Noah" she smiled. "Who are they to you?" Ms. Skye asked. "Oh well most are my friends" she looked at me and said, "some more than others"  and took her seat again. Next it was Maddie and she stood and told us who she knew. "I only Alex, Donnie and Noah." "Who are they to you?" "I just know Alex, Donnie is my boyfriend and Noah is my best friend."

I rolled my eyes, staring down at my paper.

It was my turn and I listed the people I know. "Alex, Donnie, and Marley." "What are they to you?" "I just know Donnie, Alex is a friend and I just met Marley today." The teacher giggled, "And what of Madison? You guys are friends, no?" I shook my head, "I don't know where she got that idea" I shrugged. "Don't even know her?" "We were close once, not anymore, she's just trying to hang onto something that's not even there." People bursted into laughter as I took my seat.

"Are you guys really friends?" Marley giggled. "Used to be."

Because at that moment I decided, Maddie wasn't gonna play me.

I was at the front of the school waiting for my mom to come back and someone harshly pushed at my shoulder. I looked over and saw a fuming Maddie. "Hey."

Her eyes widened, "Are you kidding me right now?"

"Why would you say that and let the whole class laugh at me?"

"Was what I said a lie?"

Her mouth gaped open and her eyebrows scrunched. "What are you trying to say?"

"Look, Maddie, I don't want to be your friend if you're gonna keep sending me mixed signals."

"Mixed signals? What are you talking about?"

"Just hold me Noah, I haven't been this close to you since ever" I mocked.

Her mouth closed and her eyes went wide again.

"You can't just say stuff like that and then suck faces with Donnie not even a week after!"

She was quiet for a minute and then a giggle slipped from her lips. "Is that it? Are you jealous?"

"No dammit! I just don't like being used and in some type of game!"

"Noah there's no use in you being jealous, we're not together."

I groaned, raking my hands through my hair.

I heard footsteps come our way, I looked to see Marley smiling, walking with a group of friends. She noticed me and waved at me and blowing a teasing kiss. I pointed at my arm, the spot where she wrote her number, and mouthed 'Tonight'. She nodded and kept on with her friends.

I needed to vent to someone.

"And who's she?" Maddie seethed.

"A friend."

"Yeah right" she scoffed.

"Are you jealous?" I hissed, repeating her question, "because you shouldn't be, we're not together."

"But we're best friends" she whimpered, her defense crumbling.

"No. As far as I know, we just went to the same middle school."

"W-why are you being so mean?"

"Me? Mean? You're the one that played with my feelings. At least I know that when Marley says she's my friend, she's serious. And if we made out I'd now if it was real or not. You just play to many games for me Maddie."

"Th-this is why I didn't want to tell you. I-I knew this w-would happen" she cried. "You asshole! Why did you have to read my diary! You ruined everything!"

Maybe I did, but it was bound to happen sometime.

I sighed, rubbing my hand over my face. "I'm not saying we can't...friends. I just need some time. I-I came here expecting to be the one to take you to homecoming and the winter formal because that night gave me hope. But today after seeing you with Donnie, it hurt."
"I'm sorry" she begged.

"You don't have to say anything, not to me."

There was a horn honk and I saw that it was my mom. "I have to go. I guess I'll um...see you tomorrow."

I walked away and got in the car. "Is that Maddie? Is she crying?"

I nodded.

"What happened?"

"Rough first day."

"Well your brother had worse."

I looked in the back seat and saw him looking out the window but his black eye wasn't hidden.

"What happened?!"

"He got into a fight."

"Well obviously but with what, a brick wall?"

"Donnie's little brother Kayle."

That son of a...ugh!
