6. Embraceable You
I reach over, deciding that it's my turn to hug him. The temperature continues to fall, and I can see the clouds of vapour that we breathe.
"You're welcome." I reply. A shiver runs through his body.
"You're cold..." I look into his eyes.
"Don't worry about me." He says, as I take off his jacket and try to give it back to him "You need it more than I do."
"I don't." I insist "But, if you're so concerned, why don't we share it?"
"If you're alright with that." He shrugs. I sit down as close to him as I can, and drape the jacket over both of us. He hugs me closer.
"Why hasn't anyone noticed the lift is broken yet?" I ask "Does this happen a lot?"
"Nobody's ever been trapped in it before" Tom answers "I guess they've just slapped some tape on it and left it."
"But...won't they notice you've gone?"
"It's my day off. I was going to surprise my agent and Luke with lunch later, but I came in early to sort out some paperwork first."
"Oh." I say "If you weren't such a nice person you wouldn't be stuck here." He elbows me gently.
"But if I wasn't stuck here I would never have met you." He smiles "And that would've been an awful loss."
"I'm sure we would've met somehow." I smile back. I feel like the luckiest girl alive, even stuck in the elevator - I'm trapped with Tom.
