22. Home a.k.a Camp Half-blood

That night there was a huge celebration in New Rome. It started with an award ceremony, as everyone was awarded a small medal of honor for fighting in the battle. The campers who died were honored by having  marble all their names carved onto purple and orange clay beads for each camper to wear. It was a tradition the Greeks brought to the Romans, and it was my first bead to represent my first year as a camper. I wore it proudly.

Rachel stepped forward her eyes glowing white then green and her voice was changed to that of the ancient oracle.

"The quest has been completed! The gods have seen their children united once again! They are pleased to see that at last a child of Rome and Greece have finally sewed the bond once broken! All will be foretold!" Rachel spoke aloud for everyone to hear.

She turned her whole body to face me.

"You have fulfilled a part of your prophecy, though genocide still resides and your prophecy has still many hardships in front of you, it is written that you and the chosen five will reach the place of the Missing Prophecy what will happen after that is still unclear."

Rachel blinked and then she was normal.

The ceremony continued as each camper was recognized for their part in battle. Reyna offered me praetor-ship, Frank Zhang was stepping down, happily. He'd decided it was time to retire, he joked he was far too old to fight with Reyna anymore. Praetor was a role my father held, but only for a short time. Troy took my hand as his mother held out the Roman toga and purple sash.

"You could stay here, with us in New Rome." he said. "I can teach you everything about Roman culture, and this can be your home."

I looked at Brynna, Konnor, and Marci who all were smiling, but they looked sad as they joined me on the stage. I smiled at Troy but shook my head.

"I have a home, back at Camp Half-blood. And praetor is your destiny, not mine."

I turned to Reyna who looked shocked.

"Your son is an amazing soldier and Roman, I think you already know that. But I think you need to know that he's ready for this." I said to her.

Reyna smiled and nodded at her son. "It's yours if you want it Troy, unlike other times, I want you to decide your future."

"Thank you Mom."

Reyna embraced her son, and Troy became the second praetor. Then we partied, and toured the city. It was such a big celebration I don't remember half of it. The next afternoon, we prepped out bathtub portal to return all the citizens of New Rome to return and all the Greek campers to go home. Konnor Brynna and I were the last ones to leave as the sun started to set.

Brynna was busy saying goodbye to Nick. He begged her to stay, but she kissed his cheek and turned towards us.

"You can stay you know." Konnor said, "I'll break the news to Gavin."

Gavin Hue was from the Apollo cabin, nasty incident with an arrow (ironically) kept him from joining the fight. Brynna had a huge crush on him, at least I think she did, maybe she still does?"

My lips are SEALED!

OKAY! Geez is no where private? Anyway, where was I?

"Thanks no thanks Konnor." she pushed past us to say goodbye to her family and Troy came towards me. Konnor stood by the tub to give us a chance to talk.

"I'll be swamped with new responsibilities, but I promise I'll write and Iris message anytime you want." he said taking my hand.

I laughed and smiled at him, man he was cute. I thought he would kiss me as leaned forward but we were interrupted by Brynna's scream.

"I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU'RE ALLOWING THIS!"

I turned to see Konnor laughing Brynna fuming and Adam smiling.

"What's wrong?" I asked.

"ASK THEM!" she screeched.

I looked to Jason and Piper who shook their heads.

"We've decided Adam, needs to get in touch with his Greek roots and he will be going to Camp Half-blood." Jason said.

Troy growled as Brynna glared at her brother.

"Calm down Brynna it's not the end of the world." Piper said smoothing her daughter's hair.

Brynna rolled her eyes as Adam climbed to the edge of the tub.

"See you at camp Jackson." he said with a wink, then jumped into the water.

I sighed then Troy said seriously.

"If he gives you problems, don't hesitate to call me."

"You'll be the second one to know." I promised.

"Why second?"

"Because I'm sure Brynna will get to him first."

"Got that right!" she called.

"Come on Penelope, portal's closing." Konnor said.

I sighed and hugged Troy whispering goodbye. Brynna hugged me as I stood in between her and Konnor then jumped into the water.

"Ready to go back to camp?" he asked me.

"No, I'm ready to go home." I answered.

He grabbed my hand as we waved goodbye then jumped into the water. I felt like we were on a water slide then we landed feet first on the grounds of Camp Half-blood. Everyone was there to welcome the returning soldiers. Konnor left my side to greet his Grandfather and his siblings, and I was looking for my own when I heard.

"Penelope!"

Athena and Fred looking much better pushed through the crowd to embrace me. I felt the tears swell up as Fred kissed my forehead and hugged me tightly with his good arm. Athena's arm had healed and she only wore a brace now, she wrapped her arms around me and smiled.

"Mom and dad would be proud of you." she whispered.

I cried and threw my arms around her.

That night I slept in my bunk with my parent's picture next to me, and I had a good dream. As Athena and Fred were softly snoring I couldn't help but smile. I know there are going to be more challenges in front of me, but soon I'll be with my parents again. For now I have my friends to guide me, and when all is said in done we'll celebrate and things will be better. Now it's time  for me to sleep, back to training tomorrow, and there's still part of a prophecy to be solved. Goodnight friends, until the next adventure!
