Yuki and Levi sat in a quiet study room that Andre told them to go in and wait for his return. On the walls were bookshelves stacked high with thick books that had leather binding. In front of the boys was a large oak table stacked with papers of all sorts of colors. As the boys waited. the grandfather clock by the door was slowing ticking off the seconds that felt like forever.
Tick, tock, tick ,tock
"I wonder what Andre knows. What exactly happened to my parents? What did they do?"
Tick, tock, tick, tock
Finally the silence was broken as Andre entered the room. He was holding three envelopes in his hand. Andre went to his desk and placed the envelopes on the table.
"Read them." Andre said, his gold eyes gazing at Yuki.
Yuki grabbed the envelope on the top and as he looked closer, he saw that some of the edges were charred and discoloration overcame the envelope due to old age. Yuki gently opened the letter. He can feel Andre and Levi's eyes on him.
Yuki began to read the letter:
My love, February 15, 1997
You are the stars in my sky and the sun of the horizon. You've made me feel as if we are the only two left in this world. When we kiss, you set my heart aflame. I wish to be near you now, but I cannot. They are watching me. The Archangels will be coming for us soon. We must not let them take our precious possession. He is a part of me and a part of you. He will be powerful one day. If only we could watch him grow. I want to be able to be there when he takes his first steps. When he makes his first laugh. His first word. I want to be there for all of his firsts. It makes my heart wrench with sadness at this painful conclusion. I assure you that he has a home to go to. I hate to give him to others that I know nothing about but we have no other choice. I hope we are making the right decision. I just want him to know that we will always love him and that if we could, he would be with us and we all could live as a family. I will await your arrival at the beach in the evening time. Make sure to bring our precious child. I am closing the letter with this ending statement:
Welcome to the world, Yuki.
Your love, the moon in the sky,
P.S. Burn this letter after you have read the contents.
Yuki closed the letter and put it back in the envelope.
"We could have been a family." Yuki thought. He rubbed his wet eyes, noticing then that he was crying. He grab the second letter:
My Darling, February 15, 1997
The moon in the night and the father of my child, I have missed you so much. Whenever you are away, I am overcome with melancholy. I can't wait for you to see our precious child. He is so beautiful and perfect. Didn't you say that every child born was a blessing from God? Yet, we are constantly being harassed by the Archangels to get rid of the baby and that we both could live different lives. If it is not your God who blessed us with this child, then who's God is it?
Your love, the sun over the horizon,
Yuki smiled softly and looked up at Andre.
"They really loved each other." Yuki said quietly, Andre put his hands on top of Yuki's.
"And they loved you too. You see, your father and your mother, a angel and a demon, committed... basically a crime in the face of God and the Heavens. They fell in love and they conceived a child. So as a consequence, they were sent to Hell." Andre said bluntly.
"But wasn't my father one of God's most trusted Archangels? Wouldn't God show some kind of leniency towards him?" Yuki said, his voice thick with emotion.
"Believe it or not, there are laws in Heaven and everyone must obey them. Including Michael. And he broke a very serious law and had to pay the consequences." Levi cut in.
Yuki started to understand but there was one more thing he needed to know.
"Andre, why didn't you raise me then?" Yuki asked. Andre was rather taken aback by the question. He heaved a heavy sigh.
"I didn't raise you because at the time, the Archangels were investigating me as well because I was your father's best friend and they wanted to see if I knew anything. If I would've brought you in my house, you would have been killed and Levi would be taken away and I would have been sent to Hell. So your father sealed your powers and had me give you to a different family so that you wouldn't be found. Your father wanted you to live a normal life with human parents so that you could be brought up as a human and no one would know of your origin." Andre explained to Yuki.
Yuki understood and he wasn't mad at Andre for it. Andre didn't want to put Levi in danger. At the time, Levi was still a baby like Yuki. And from what Yuki has been told, the Archangels are merciless. But then again, the family that Yuki was left with wasn't a very good one. The father drank and he beat the mother at all hours of the day as she tried to protect Angel from his wrath too.
"Would you like to read the last letter?" Andre said, holding it in his hand.
"Who is it from?" Yuki asked, taking the letter in his hands. The envelope was completely white. There was no signs of old age or burn marks. Just plain white. There was also a gold seal with an angel crest on it at the back of the letter.
"This must be the Archangels' letter." Yuki thought.
Yuki opened the letter and began to read the dark black markings. The words were in Latin but Yuki was somehow able to read it.
Dear Michael, God's Hand and Hero that vanquished the dark,
A warrant for your imprisonment and the demon's has been issued and enforced. You have twenty four hours to surrender yourself and face judgment or be sent to Hell. You have disappointed all of your fellow brothers, especially now that you brought that bastard child of yours into the world. Your child will be taken away and executed on the beginning night of the blood moon.
Surrender yourself and face imprisonment or be sent to Hell. Your choice.
Yuki felt his throat tighten. He would've been executed. No wonder why his father... Yuki shook his head violently. His father did what he had to do and Yuki understands that now.
"So the Archangels were going to kill me?" Yuki said in a raspy voice.
"Yes, they would have. They did not want a bastard child of Michael's to be alive. It would have brought great shame to the Heavens. So they decided they should eliminate you so that Heaven did not look like it was going soft. But when your father sealed off your powers. you fell of the radar. They couldn't find you so they suspected you died." Andre said. His calm voice startled Yuki as he told him this.
"Well what happens now?" Yuki asked. He was still weary of the thought that he might still be in danger.
"Unfortunately for the Archangels, the greatest mistake they ever made was trying to get rid of you. Now they need you more than ever." Andre said.
"How come they need me now?"
"The Archangels are being attacked by demons. Somehow, the demons have become stronger and Archangels can't defeat them. God is slowly losing influence. Less and less people are going to church and instead they are going to sadism rituals and birthing more antichrists." Levi interjected.
"So what does that have to do with me?" Yuki asked.
"Yuki, are a Nephilim but you are also something else. You are the Angel of Death. You can terminate demon influences and make people turn back to God and his light." Levi said, his eyes shining. "Don't you see? You are essential." But Yuki shook his head.
"Why should I help God when all he did was send his Archangels to kill me and send my parents to Hell!" Yuki shouted and he stormed out of the room.
