I woke up to the loud sound of machines and I knew it was happening.
The Rundall Forest was going to be completely destroyed Monday June 11th. They "needed" more wood to build more houses but didn't "need" to save innocent animals.
I ran downstairs in my pjs with no bra on and my flipflop style slippers. I threw on my camo raincoat and put on my neon orange boots and ran out the back door into the rain.
Once I got outside I immediately saw the huge destructive vehicles. I ran up to the first one I could get to and climbed up the slippery steps on the vehicle as the driver yelled, "Hey! Girl! Get off the machines while we're moving! It's dangerous!"
I screamed, "You're killing the owls!!" as I climbed higher closer to the driver. I finally made my way to him and he kept yelled "Get down!" "This is dangerous!" "What are you doing?!".
I didn't know where to go so I climbed on top of him and tried to find the key to the vehicle. I turned and pulled out the key and the vehicle slid through the mud to a stop but not after slamming against a tree.
I was thrown from the vehicle.
I don't really remember what happened but the driver told me the rest.
I hit the tree face on and got stabbed with sharp branches. One branch went all the way through my chest and out through the back breaking a few ribs. Another stabbed my neck and a few hit my arms and legs but didn't stay in. When I hit the ground 15 feet down, the branch in my chest and neck both snapped and ripped my body even more. I landed hands down and broke my right wrist and my right shoulder popped out, the branch in my chest went even deeper.
Blood covered my entire body. I was unconscious. I was face down on the ground next to the vehicle.
The driver called the police and told them what happened and the ambulance came and took me to the emergency room where my parents met me there once they were called.
Well, my pjs were ruined. Those were my favorite too. Anyways, they fixed my wrist and shoulder first and then had to pull the branch out from my neck and the one from my chest. I broke two ribs and had punctured my right lung. The branch from my neck luckily didn't do any major damage. I still needed to get stitches for that though.
Well, that happened on Monday morning and now it's 1:22pm on Friday. I'm still in the hospital. Doctors say I can leave by next Friday if everything heals right but they sounded unsure. They said that I was extremely lucky that the branch didn't hit my heart because then I would've died.
My mom walked in and handed me a bowl of apple slices with peanut butter. My favorite.
"Hey sweetie, how are you feeling? I brought you a snack if you are hungry."
"What's wrong Emma? Are you hurting?"
"No.. well yes, my college track scholarship is hurting for sure."
"Oh honey, we don't need to worry about that right now. You'll heal up and they'll still want you! You're in the top five on the team for sprinting anyways."
"But mom. Seriously. I only have my senior year left and I won't heal by the end of summer to join winter track. And I need to do my very best for colleges to see. And if not, then I'm freaking screwed and won't even get into college."
"Emma stop worrying about this. You're going to get into college. You're a very smart girl. Don't let this bring you down."
"Mom stop lying to me. This is going to ruin--" I couldn't breathe. I was gasping for air. I tried to yell for help but nothing came out. Then everything went black.
