A man ran back from his mailbox. Panting, and gasping. He looked around nervously. He saw no one.
Shaking with fear, he walked into the kitchen and found his maid.
"Sir, whatever has happened?"
"Nothing. Prepare my suitcase at once. I leave tomorrow aboard the London Express."
"Something must have happened, sir!"
"Nothing has happened. Now go and pack my bags."
The maid hurried off to do what he said. He looked down at his hands, which still clutched the letter tightly. A lie. A full lie, he thought. Something has happened. Something bad.
He read the letter again, with shaking hands:
IF YOU KNOW WHAT IS GOOD FOR YOU, YOU WILL BE ON THE LONDON EXPRESS THAT LEAVES TOMORROW. WITH TEWNTY MILLION DOLLARS. OTHERWISE, NO MERCY WILL BE SHOWN.
PS: SAY GOODBYE IF THERE IS NO MONEY!!!
With a soft moan the man clutched at his heart. "I was responsible for sending X to jail! I thought he would forget! But no! I have learned! Have mercy!" he cried to the air. With another moan he slumped to the floor, clutching his heart.
A slight man watched everything in the kitchen. He laughed as the man collapsed to the floor. Mercy? Never, he thought. I'm X, and you have asked for- revenge! In a bound he was at the open window. He stepped through silently, and pulled out another piece of paper. He grabbed the other note from the silent man, and replaced it with a new note.
REMEMBER TO BE ON THE TRAIN TOMORROW.
He laughed evilly, and with a sneer said, "That should fix the old man."Oh, he thought to himself, revenge will be sweet. No one alerts the police when there is a X on the floor, if they know what is good for them. " I have waited twenty years for this, twenty long years in prison because of you. But, no more! I will have the final laugh! Hahahaha!" With a laugh at the man, he climbed out the window and disappeared in the dusk.
