7. The Middle Of The Games
Within a couple of days Mason and I have made a routine of how we live. I have a couple scars and Mason does too but nothing has been life threatening. As the days went by Mason and I have killed song and others have died without us knowing the cause. Its a sunny day and Mason and I decide to get out and hunt. It takes a hour but we finally locate 2 deer in the woods. They show no signs of mutts so we think their ok. We follow them silently, Waiting for a perfect and easy aim that we can take them down with one hit. Mason and I get up and follow them but Mason snaps a twig and the run off. I can't miss out on a meal like this so I sprint after them with Mason on my heels. Soon we reach the edge of the forest and the deer dash into the wide open field. Before Mason can stop me I'm sprinting after them, I throw my knife at one of them and wait for a spear to enter the other one but it doesn't. The world seems to be in slow motion as I glance back at Mason who Is still at the edge of the forest. "NO WHISP!" I hear before the world goes black.
I'm back at home, In the dark dull kitchen. Its deathly silent, and I see no people, no life around me. I open the door of the kitchen and suddenly I am in a park, It has trees and smiling people. I wonder where I am and I walk around. That's when I hear a giggle. Little Eve! I run to the sound where It came from but all I find is a empty black corner like in a prison cell. Suddenly the park turns into a cell. I'm crazy by now. Bars like a cage surround me. I scream and shout, I bang on the bars and yell like a mad man. A voice booms around me and I shiver into a corner of the cage like cell. "LADIES AND GENTLEMAN! ODSERVE THE MUTT!" the voice booms. The walls disappear and suddenly in standing in a cage with a crowd screaming and pointing. I yell I scream. "IM NOT A MUTT!" I say but the voice goes on and Suddenly i'm facedown on the cage floor.
"Whisp." says a soft voice from around me. I wake up to a start and scream. A hand clamps around my mouth and I turn to see Mason in the morning light. "Do you want to get us killed?" He says. We look at each other before I wrap myself in his arms. It was all a dream. It wasn't real. I repeat in my mind. Mason tells me I've been out cold for days but my wound Is closing up. That's right. The boy from 5 stabbed me I remember. I sit in silence for a hour at least as Mason tells me about the days I was out. Then he stops and looks at me tears fill his eyes. "I thought I lost you." he says as a tear escapes. "I'll never leave you." I say. Then I notice the sleeping bag I'm in. "Who was this from?" I ask quitley. "The boy who almost killed you." He says "He's dead now." I nod then look at him. "Oh if the sky comes falling down. for you there's nothing in this world I wouldn't do." I sing quietly. The song fills the emptiness and soon he starts to sing. "Hey sister, Do you still believe in love I wonder." He sings picking up the right notes easily. This song was sung in factories all over district 2. It made work hours easier to think of each other as a family. "Oh if the sky comes falling down. for you theres nothing in this world I woundn't do." we finish the song together and he's smiling now. Which is good. Because it means where safe.
Over the next days we spend time together, dancing, singing, hunting, fighting. This arena may be hell but I'm still with Mason. So I smile, and I laugh. I'm pretty sure the capitol is disgusted in my happiness but I don't care. We kill more tributes and roam the area. I sing loud not caring who cares because Mason and I are stronger then ever. Day after day I picture going home to my mom. To my dad. To my family. We would be rich which means we could buy a real house, and we would never have to work again. One day Mason finds some wildflowers, He makes me a daisy crown and insists I wear it. My leather bracelet is tight on my skin and I know that now i'll never take it off. I loose track of days but I know its been wore then 2 weeks. That means the end to the games is coming soon. Which means the gamemakers want actions.
