Tearing at the Seams

As soon as Sherlock is exiled, his brother calls him back for a new case: Moriarty. After what happened the first time, Sherlock doesn't want John anywhere near this case, but John is too stubborn to listen. How will he cope when things take a turn for the worse? Can he ever forgive himself?

4. Chapter 4

John raced out of the room and headed after Sherlock. Sherlock had reached the front desk and was talking to the nurse. "Has anyone asked for the room of Mary Watson? Or did you see anyone go into her room?" His voice was worried.

The nurse shook her head, slightly scared of the insane man standing in front of her.

Sherlock slammed his fists on the counter and dashed back to Mary's hospital room, while John caught his breath. "I'm sorry about... him" John nodded toward the nurse, who just stood in confusion. "Alright, then" and John headed back after Sherlock.

Sherlock was pacing around the room with his phone to his ear. He was speaking each word very quietly, but enunciating them enough for John to hear some of the conversation.

"Shut up... Don't pretend you've never needed my help... I know he took her, that's obvious. But, why?... No, no. I know he's going to try to kill us again, but this has nothing to do with Mary... Why John throw out that memory stick?" Sherlock mumbled the last part to himself, "Yes, goodbye, brother." Sherlock dropped the phone into his pocket and turned around, rubbing his hands together. He looked John in the eye and then brushed past him.

"Wait, wait, wait. You're saying Moriarty took Mary?"

Sherlock turned around, "It's quite possible."

"But what would he want with her?"

"I'm working on it... Oh, Molly! Just in time"

Molly's eyes widened and she took a nervous step back, "Yes, Sherlock?" She took a shocked step back and hung her head to hide her blush.

"I need the tapes from Mary's room."

Molly nodded her head and brought them to the security office. The large guard on duty sat in his chair, drifting to sleep. However, when Molly walked in, he was wide awake and not letting her pass, "I'm sorry Miss Hooper, no admittance..."

Sherlock stepped out, into the doorway and the guard's eyes widened even more. "We need some footage from about 3:00."

"You--You're Sherlock Holmes..."

"Yes I am. Would you please step aside."

The guard immediately let Sherlock through and brought him the tapes.

John and Sherlock left the room, and barely five minutes later, Mary sat up and clutched her newborn baby. Slowly, she hung her feet over the bed and headed to the bathroom with Amanda in her arms.

Sherlock had the tape on fast forward as John breathed down his neck in the small space. Chills were sent down Sherlocks spine, but he ignored them. Besides, emotions would only slow him down. Sherlock fast forward for a few minutes, but Mary didn't go back into the room.

"So, that's it? But, where did she go?" John sounded panicked, but Sherlock ignored him. Instead, he stood up and walked out of the room. "Wait, Sherlock"

"Don't you see John?" Sherlock spun around and grasped John's shoulders. John had gotten quite used to Sherlocks outbursts and deductions, so he stood there, waiting for Sherlock to explain himself. "Mary was the one who left. She wasn't kidnapped."

John snorted, "No shit, Sherlock. I can see that for myself."

Sherlock let out an exasperated sigh, "No, don't you see, she is part of the bigger picture. It was all on that memory stick! That you destoyed. She knew you would do that, but she didn't know that I would copy it and save it to my com-"

"YOU WHAT!" John pushed Sherlock away and stared at him with furious astonishment. "Why would you do that? That was Mary's personal file. That was my wife's personal file. And you just invaded her privacy!"

"No no, John. I wouldn't look at it without you there and without a reason. I only saved it because-"

"I DON'T CARE WHY YOU SAVED IT!" John interrupted Sherlock again. Sharply turning around, John stormed away with burning sass, leaving Sherlock wide eyed, mumbling,

"I care about you... and I wanted to keep you safe..."
