2. Chapter 2
Next day I woke up at about ten. I slowly got out of bed and got ready for riding. I was first riding at one o'clock so I had plenty of time. When I arrived at the barn, I quickly got Scooby ready, I was a bit late. In the jumping lesson you have to warm up a little bit before. When our riding teacher, Scarlett came, I was warmed enough up for the lesson. We started of going over poles and then the jump got a bit higher each time. We were up at a 90, when it happened. Scooby cantered towards the jump, but tripped just before the jump, so we crashed into it. I quickly got of to see if he was alright. He looked fine, but when I started walking him, I could see that he was limping. Poor Scooby! I thought. I cooled him of quickly before putting him back into his stable. There was no more jumping for Scooby and I that day.
I had been told that I couldn't ride, but I could come and see to Scooby if I wanted to. He had to be on a week's stall rest. I didn't go up to the stables at all that week, until Saturday. I obviously couldn't be in the jumping lesson, but I was aloud to start lunging Scooby in walk and a little bit in trot. Scooby seemed happy to see me. I had bought an apple with me for him. I gave it to Scooby, as I put his head collar on. I groomed him, before getting the lunge line. At the stables I go to, we have a special school outside to lunge in. I went on there with Scooby and lunged him, mostly in walk. He seemed to be fine. I put him in his stable as I heard a lorry outside. I went outside, wondering what it was. Scarlett told me to go into the tack room and she would be there in a minute. She apparently wanted to talk to me about something.
As I waited for Scarlett in the tack room, I could see out the window that ponies were coming out of the lorry. Oh great, new ponies! I thought. I couldn't wait to try them. I counted three ponies. When they all were out, came Scarlett finally in.
"What did you want to talk to me about?" I asked Scarlett.
"Are you up for riding?" She asked me. "I want you to ride one of the new ponies."
"Really?" I exclaimed. "Do you mean it?"
"Yes of course," Scarlett replied. "Now let's go."
As we walked, Scarlett said, "you are going to ride the one called Moonrise. She is a 14.1hh welsh section C pony, and she is a mare."
I saw a nameplate where it said 'Moonrise', so it must be her, I thought. I opened the box and went in. Moonrise nickered at me as if she could recognize me. Because it was dark in the stable, I couldn't see her properly. I groomed her and put on the tack that Scarlett had put on her door. When I was finished, I took her out in the sun.
