Everyone, including the rest of One Direction’s band, was sat in the living room of the hotel room we are staying in. Luckily, I am not the only girl. The drummer was a girl. Her name is Beth and she is twenty-three. She’s nice, but I’m not here to make friends. There is Jack, who is twenty, and he plays the bass.
Louis decided that he wanted to get to know us all better, of course excluding his best friends.
“Let’s start with asking each other random questions!” Louis suggests and we all nod in agreement. “I’m going to start . . . Leah, what’s your favourite singer or band?”
“Taylor Swift or Paramore. Can’t decide.” I say quickly.
“Now you ask someone a question.” Louis instructs and I nod.
I look around the circle and pick Liam because he looks quite scared. “Is it true you’re afraid of spoons?” I ask.
“Yeah,” He mumbles. He turns red and quickly asks a question so the attention is taken off him. “Beth, what’s your favourite animal?”
“Dinosaur,” She replies flatly. She twirls a strand of her blonde hair around her finger. Her blue eyes scan the room. “Hmm . . . Jack, how many fags do you smoke a day?” We all turn to face Jack, who is in the middle of running his hand through his red hair. His brown eyes widen at her question.
“None! I told you I don’t smoke!” He protests. “Zayn, are you still with Perrie?” We turn to Zayn who is biting his lip.
“No, she broke up with me three months ago.” Zayn says and I swore I heard his voice crack a little.
“Sorry, I haven’t seen you in like six months, I had to ask.” Jack says quickly to defend himself.
“Um . . . Harry, why did you take three mints from Leah?” Zayn asks Harry. I turn to Harry and shoot him a glare.
“I noticed that.” I add in.
“I wanted to look like a hamster. I would have taken more but it would have been obvious.” Harry defends and shrugs slightly. We all laugh at his answer. Damn, he’s cute.
“Three was obvious.” I say and he shrugs again, only this time he was smirking, his dimples showing.
“Um . . . Leah, is there a secret you’re keeping from us?” Harry asks me and I could feel the colour drain from my face. How did he know? How much did he know? “Like music wise.” Harry adds, probably noticing my shocked expression. I relax slightly.
“Um . . .” I begin but Harry cuts me off.
“You never told us you like our music.” He says with a slight smirk on his pink lips.
“It wasn’t important.” I say.
“How exactly did you get signed up to be our new guitarist anyway?” Beth asks.
“I performed at a concert and Paula saw and asked me if I wanted to join a band. She didn’t tell me what band until I went to her office.” I say and everyone nods at my answer.
“Explains,” Louis says with a silly grin on his face.
“Beth, why do you think Jack smokes?” Harry asks Beth she shrugs.
“I caught him smelling of fags once and I have never let it go.” She replies and Jack pushes her off her chair.
“Hey!” Beth screams as she falls on the floor. Everyone laughs, except me of course. “You’re gonna pay for that!”
“No. You won’t.” Jack says while laughing. Beth sits back in her seat and then looks around the room to find a victim.
“Leah, how old are you?” She asks.
“I’m nineteen.” I tell her and she nods.
“You seem younger.” She sighs.
The questions went on for about half an hour, and then everyone got bored and decided they wanted to go out to a club or something. It was quite late anyway.
“Leah, you wanna come?” Harry asks me and I shake my head. “Why not?”
“I just wanna stay here.” I say with a small shrug.
“C’mon, stop being shy, let us get to know you better. We’re all need to be friends.” He begs and I shake my head.
“Maybe I don’t want friends.” I mutter to myself and look at the floor.
Either Harry didn’t hear me, or he just chose to ignore it. He says “We won’t let ya get too drunk.”
“I’m not even legally allowed to drink here anyway.” I tell him.
“They don’t care, they just want the money.” Harry tells me and I finally give in only because he won’t stop begging.
“Fine, I’ll go.” I sigh and follow him out of the hotel room where the others were waiting.
The club they chose was full of sweaty bodies, all grinding on one another. I never understood the urge to go to clubs, especially when you only get drunk and have a one night stand with a stranger who most likely has every sexually transmitted disease that exists.
I follow the others to the bar, squeezing past people ‘dancing’ in the process. I am already having a shit time. Why didn’t I stand my ground and stay back at the hotel? Ugh, I’m such an idiot!
When we arrive at the bar they all start ordering drinks with names I don’t recognise, not surprising since I avoid alcohol at all costs. I have never been drunk and I don’t plan on getting drunk, ever.
“What do you want?” Niall asks me. I shake my head.
“Nothing, I don’t like alcohol.” I say firmly to show them that they won’t change my mind.
“Okay,” He says and turns back around to face the bartender who is already preparing the drinks. He turns back around and passes the drinks to everyone. They grab their drinks and take a sip while I watch awkwardly.
“Do you want anything, babe?” The too-good-looking bartender asks me. I shake my head.
“You can get drunk you know.” Harry informs me by whispering in my ear. His warm breath hitting my neck and causing goose bumps to appear.
“I know, but like I said before, I don’t like alcohol.” I snap and glare at him. He puts his hands up in defence and turns to Niall to start a conversation.
I sit on a stool and fold my arms.
“Come on, Leah,” Zayn says as the others walk off to dance. I shake my head. He rolls his eyes and sits down on the stool next to me with a loud sigh. “Fine, I’ll keep you company.”
I nod and take in my surroundings. I let out a small sigh.
“You have to stop being so cold, try and make friends.” Zayn tells me. I snap my gaze back on him and shrug.
“Maybe I don’t want to.” I murmur.
“You will just be alone your whole life.” He tells me and I shrug again. Then I remember I can’t be cold and push people away. Leah is supposed to be happy. Not cold and depressed like Diana.
“I’m kinda shy.” I murmur, trying my best to undo my previous mistakes.
“I gathered,” Zayn says with a chuckle. His eyes sparkled and I notice that his tongue pushes against his teeth when he smiles.
“So, tell me what happened between you and Perrie?” I ask. I know I hit a nerve because his eyes immediately began to fill up with pain.
“She got jealous, I guess.” He admits.
“Why would she get jealous? Did you cheat or something?” I ask and he shakes his head.
“No, I just worried too much about fans and stuff.” He says.
“C’mon, you can tell me.” I say and give him a smile. He smiles back.
“I stopped someone from committing suicide. Perrie got jealous that I spent all the time worrying about the girl. She got really, really upset that I wrote a song with the guys for her.” He pauses. “I don’t even know if she is a fan or not, but her expression gave me hope that she was. I leaked the song not too long ago hoping she would hear it.” He explains. I nod. He wrote the song for me? I tried my best not to act too shocked.
“Girls go crazy when they’re jealous.” I say and he nods. We start laughing just as Harry walks over. I notice that Harry’s curls are a lot messier than they were when we arrived.
“See you’re actually having fun, glad I begged you to come?” Harry asks me and I nod and give him a smile.
“Yup, thank you.” I say. “Why aren’t you with the others?” I ask him.
“Came over to get another drink,” He tells me. I turn back to Zayn.
“Did you get the girls name?” I ask him and he nods.
“She’s called Diana.” He tells me. There’s my confirmation that the song definitely is about me.
“Pretty name,” I say and he nods in agreement.
“You two talking about this mysterious ‘Diana’ that Zayn always talks about?” Harry jokes. Shit. He always talks about me. I hope Harry is exaggerating. Then again, I hope he isn’t. It’s rare to have a celeb always talking about you.
“Yeah,” Zayn says. “And I don’t always talk about her!” He protests and punches Harry on the arm causing Harry to pout like a five year old.
“Where do you live?” Zayn asks me once Harry walks off.
“You’ve probably never heard of where I live.” I say quietly and he laughs.
“You’ll be surprised,” He says. I sigh and decide to tell him.
“Maidstone,” I reply and he nods. Recognition flashes in his brown eyes.
“That’s exactly where I saw Diana.” He mumbles to no one in particular.
“Was it?” I ask and he nods. His eyes fill up with sadness and worry. I really have to stop looking in his eyes.
“Do you know anyone called Diana?” He asks me and I sit there. Should I tell him I know Diana or not? Technically I do know her since it’s me.
“Yes, I do actually. There was a girl called Diana Walker who was in my English.” I tell him and his face lights up. “She always seemed happy though, maybe I was wrong.” The lies kept rolling of my tongue with ease.
“Does she have Facebook?” He asks me eagerly. I shake my head.
“Not that I know of, I was never close to her.” I say. I didn’t have many friends at school, just Abbie. I didn’t trust many people since Mum left. Then he came along and I pushed Abbie away. I felt my phone vibrate in my pocket.
Abbie: Your dad just told me you left to America with ONE DIRECTION! Why didn’t you tell me? Please talk to me :( I miss you, Di.
I read the text and lock my phone. I would reply later. I couldn’t risk Zayn seeing the nickname Abbie gave me. My cover would be blown and he would know that I’m Diana. He’ll probably hate me because I lied to his face a thousand times.
“Who was that?” He asks.
“My friend,” I murmur and slide my phone into my pocket.
“What’s her name?” He asks. Wow is this twenty questions or something?
“Abbie,” I say truthfully. “She’s the only person I can trust since my mum left.” I admit.
“Is that why you’ve been so distant and cold around us? You’re scared we’ll leave you?” I nod.
“It was ages ago, but I can’t help but worry.” I tell him and he nods. At that moment, the rest of the gang came up to us. They’re all pretty much drunk of their asses.
“We wanna go home.” Harry slurs and I nod, I hop off the stool and Zayn follows.
A week flies by and I can say I’m pretty much friends with everyone. I don’t trust them yet. Maybe this will help me get over what happened. I hope it does. I hope I have a shot at happiness again.
I look at my phone and see I have a text from Abbie. I never replied to her text.
“Who’s Diana?” Niall asks me. Shit, he read the text over my shoulder.
“She’s talking about the leaked song.” I say and turn to face him. “She’s obsessed with you guys.” Niall nods and sits down next to me.
Me: I’m gonna call you as soon as I go somewhere private.
I send the text and stand up. I walk over to the bathroom and lock myself in. I call Abbie and she answers on the second ring.
“Diana! Oh my God! Finally!” She screams at me.
“Sorry, I’ve been busy.” I tell her. “Any way, don’t call me Diana anymore.” I whisper.
“What? Why?” She asks as soon as the words leave my mouth.
“I told them my name is Leah. It’s a long story.” I whisper.
“I have plenty of time.” Abbie urges me. I let out a long sigh before telling her what happened.
“Don’t kill me for this, but I tried to kill myself four months ago and Zayn caught me. I didn’t want him to risk recognising me so I dyed my hair, I wear make-up again, I changed my name and I put on an act.” I whisper. I bite my lip and hope no one can hear me through the door.
“What!” She screeches at me.
“Calm down, okay!” I plead. I hear her sigh.
“Okay, Leah. I know what you’ve been through; I have been trying to talk to you since it happened. Please just stop pushing me away.” Abbie begs.
“Fine, I guess I need someone to talk to every now and again.” I say in defeat.
“I have to go, it’s late over here. Night.” She says and hangs up. I lock my phone and return it to my pocket. I unlock the bathroom door to find Niall standing there. I felt my jaw drop in shock.
“You heard the whole conversation didn’t you?” I ask and he nods slowly. Pain and betrayal fills his eyes.
