I was helping Maura and my mom clean up from dinner. They said I didn't have to, but I did anyways. I could hear Niall and Chris talking in the living room.
"So...Alice, how do you like here?" Maura asked.
"I actually like it a lot. It's a big step from when I was living in Los Angeles, but I like how quiet it is," I responded.
"I can see Niall really likes you."
I started to blush.
"Yeah. It also looks like Niall has a little crush on you too.."
Before I could respond, Niall walked in with his guitar. He was wearing a gray beanie. I could see Chris outside making a fire, and Niall just kind of stood there in the kitchen waiting for us. I finished wiping the dishes, and went by Niall. We both waited for our moms, and then we walked outside. Chris had the fire going pretty high, and Niall sat down with his guitar. He started strumming one of my favorite songs. It was The Story Of Us by Taylor Swift.
“I used to think one day we'd tell the story of us, How we met and the sparks flew instantly, People would say, "They're the lucky ones." I used to know my place was a spot next to you, Now I'm searching the room for an empty seat, 'Cause lately I don't even know what page you're on,” Niall started singing.
Then I joined in.
“Oh, a simple complication, Miscommunications lead to fall-out. So many things that I wish you knew, So many walls that I can't break through. Now I'm standing alone in a crowded room and we're not speaking, And I'm dying to know is it killing you like it's killing me, yeah? I don't know what to say, since the twist of fate when it all broke down, And the story of us looks a lot like a tragedy now. Next chapter,” I sang.
“How'd we end up this way? See me nervously pulling at my clothes and trying to look busy, And you're doing your best to avoid me. I'm starting to think one day I'll tell the story of us, How I was losing my mind when I saw you here, But you held your pride like you should've held me. Oh, I'm scared to see the ending, Why are we pretending this is nothing? I'd tell you I miss you but I don't know how, I've never heard silence quite this loud. Now I'm standing alone in a crowded room and we're not speaking, And I'm dying to know is it killing you like it's killing me, yeah?” Niall sang.
“I don't know what to say, since the twist of fate when it all broke down, And the story of us looks a lot like a tragedy now. This is looking like a contest, Of who can act like they care less, But I liked it better when you were on my side. The battle's in your hands now, But I would lay my armor down If you said you'd rather love than fight. So many things that you wished I knew, But the story of us might be ending soon. Now I'm standing alone in a crowded room and we're not speaking, And I'm dying to know is it killing you like it's killing me, yeah? I don't know what to say, since the twist of fate when it all broke down, And the story of us looks a lot like a tragedy now, now, now. And we're not speaking, And I'm dying to know is it killing you like it's killing me, yeah? I don't know what to say, since the twist of fate 'cause we're going down, And the story of us looks a lot like a tragedy now,” Niall and I sang together.
“The end,” I said.
Our parents clapped, and Niall started to strum another song. I had to sue the bathroom, and I didn’t want to say it out loud. All I said was, I’ll be right back. I found the first floor bathroom, and I got a text from a random number.
Stay away from my man! Or else you will be in serious trouble!
I don’t know who the text message was from, but I knew it was probably from someone at school. I walked out of the bathroom, and saw Niall at the front door talking with someone. I saw that it was Jennifer.
“Niall! Come on! I want to be with you! And I know that you love me!” Jennifer was saying.
“No I don’t Jennifer! I like someone that isn’t you,” Niall responded.
“If it’s that loser name Alice. I already told her to stay away!”
“You did what? Jennifer! You’re a crazy person! I would never ever want to go out with you.”
“Well it looks like she already didn’t pay attention to my text message.”
Jennifer pointed at me, and I ran to the back door in tears. My mom saw, and we said goodbye. I walked past Niall, and Jennifer. Niall tried talking to me, but I ignored him. Jennifer smirked when I walked past her. My mom wrapped her arm around me, and I could hear running foot steps behind us. I could tell that it was Niall, but I didn’t want to deal with him. I squirmed out of my mom’s grasp, and ran all the way home. My mom had left the front door unlocked, and I just ran straight to my room. I closed all of the curtains, and cried into my pillow. Someone knocked on my door. I could hear my mom talking to Niall earlier at the front door.
“Who...is...it?” I said.
“Niall…” He responded.
“GO AWAY! I DON’T WANT TO SEE YOU ANYMORE!”
“Is it because of the text Jennifer sent you?”
“MAYBE! JUST GO AWAY!”
“I’m not leaving until you tell me why!”
“Jennifer reminded me of the bully in Los Angeles! She would bully me everyday! I had a boyfriend too...but he decided to break up with me and go out with the bully!”
I heard the door open, but I kept my head down. I felt Niall’s hand touch my back, and I flinch. That’s where the bully use to hit me. All the memories came flooding back. The laughing...the teasing...the punching...I could see my ex-boyfriend laughing with everyone else. I started crying harder.
“Love...it’s okay...I’m here for you…” Niall whispered.
I shifted, and cried into Niall’s chest. He wrapped his arms around me. Niall kissed my head, and I just sat there crying for about an hour or so. Niall just sat there with me, and comforted me.
“Alice?” My mom asked.
“Yes…” I responded moving my head from Niall’s chest.
“How are you doing? I already called the school about Jennifer.”
“I’m doing better. I’m just glad that Niall’s here.”
My mom left us alone, and I fell asleep in Niall’s arms.
