I woke up to the sound of someone else breathing beneath me, at first forgetting Liam had come over the night before.
At first I thought I should move, but then realized I liked what was going on right now. I liked having someone to snuggle with and keep me warm, other than my comforter, who at this point I had become pretty close to.
I know it's weird and all, but I will talk to my comforter, who I notoriously named Suzanne, when I am down and don't feel like talking to real people. She's always there for me, would never talk back, and kept me warm, which are three main priorities when it comes to having someone that loves you. Liam does all of those and more.
I looked over at Liam and realized how we were positioned. My right half of my back was placed on the left half of Liam's chest, causing me to be at and angle. Liam was completely flat on the bed.
I heard footsteps coming up the stairs. At first I panicked, knowing my mom would probably be coming to check on me, but then realised that I had every right to be snuggling with my boyfriend. I mean, I had done it all weekend.
I heard my mom knock softly on the door, then turn the knob. I closed my eyes and pretended to be asleep. I turned my head so she wouldn't be able to see the smile that would soon appear on my face, like it always did when I was pretending to be sleeping.
"She's asleep." My mom said. Obviously someone was here due to the fact my mom doesn't talk to herself.
"Oh, okay. Who's that with her?" a male voice asked. A male voice I didn't recognize, although it sounded familiar.
"That is, uh.." my mom came closer to the bed. "That's her boyfriend Liam, who must of come after I fell asleep because he wasn't here when I said goodnight."
"She has a boyfriend already? Wow, last time I checked she was only a year old." the male said.
"No shit, you left her when she was a year old and never came back."
I opened my eyes, looking at my mom and the man standing in my room. I pretended to look like I had just woken up before saying, "Who are you?"
"I am Denice Port, your father." My "father" said.
I sat up, looking from my mom to him. "My "father"?" I said, using air quotes. "I don't have a father. He left us when I was young."
"Yes, I did leave you guys when you were just a baby, but I'm still your father." Denice spoke, coming closer to the bed.
"Listen, Denice. I don't know who you think you are, but get out of my room. You are not my father and never will be. If you were, you would of stayed here with us and helped us out, but you didn't. And because of that, I don't want you anywhere near me." I said, strictly and maybe a little to loudly, causing Liam to move.
"Amber, don't speak to your father that way." my mom said. "You're coming on a little harsh."
"Harsh? Oh I have every right to be harsh to this "man". He isn't in my book of respected people last time I checked."
"Okay Amber, you need to calm down." Denice said. "I know you are angry with me, but I wanted to come back into your life. You're 16 now and I've already missed too much."
"I don't need you in my life, let alone want you in my life. You need to get out of this house before I have a freak attack." I said, feeling like at any minute this anger building up would cause me to leave and go somewhere else.
"A freak attack?"
"Wait, you don't know what that is do you? Obviously, because you were an ass and left before I was diagnosed."
"Amber stop." my mom said.
Liam sat up beside me. Looking around his face went from tired, to confused. "What's going on?"
"I'm pissed and need this man out of my house." I said, pointing to Denice.
"Why? What's wrong with him?"
"Everything is wrong with him. Please dispose of this waste before I have an outburst."
Liam chuckled before getting up and walking to Denice, who was at least a foot smaller than Liam.
"Get out, before I smash your face in." Liam said, his voice getting deeper and more intimidating.
Denice backed away before bolting out of the house, my mom running after him. I smiled and so did Liam.
"You weren't actually going to punch his face in were you?" I asked.
"No. I just say that because people will believe I will do it." He laughed slightly before crawling back into bed with me. "Who was he?"
"My excuse of a father." I said, resting my head on Liam's chest.
"The one that left you? He came back?" Liam started stroking his fingers through my hair.
"Yup. I woke up and there they were, in my room, talking about me."
"Wow. Why'd he come back?"
"I don't know." I sighed, grabbing hold of Liam's hand tightly.
I heard my mom running up the stairs. "Amber!" she yelled. She ran into my room and looked at me, fire in her eyes. "I am very disappointed in you." she said.
"Thanks mom. I've had a wonderful birthday so far." I smiled, sitting up along with Liam. "Now if you don't mind, I'm going to go spend my birthday with Liam, A.K.A. someone that hasn't yelled at me today."
I got up and ran to my closet pulling out some clothes and stuffing them in a bag. I grabbed all the necessities that I would need and grabbed Liam's hand, pulling him out of my room with me.
"Amber Anne Riley, do not leave this house." my mom said, storming after us.
I walked out the front door. "Oops, just did."
