I knew if I went back into the house that I'd break in front of Luke and tell him everything. So I decided to leave instead. I made it home in twenty minutes and crashed on the couch.
I think I just made the biggest mistake of my life. Why didn't I stop the kiss with Brad? Why did I let it happen in the first place? Luke's such a great guy and I always end up ruining it with him because I can't even control myself. Eventually Luke's going to find out and he'll be done with me.
The buzzing of my cell phone brought me back from my constant thoughts. The caller read Luke.
If I ignore the call he'll think something's wrong and rush over here. If I do answer I'll have to lie to him. Right now I don't think either one will be the smarter choice.
I let my finger hover over the answer button for a few seconds until I gave in and pressed it.
"Hey Luke." I bit my tongue waiting for his response.
"Hey, where'd you go? I thought you were just throwing the garbage out?" He questions me.
I try not to panic. Before I say anything I take a deep breath and pinch my thigh to calm myself.
"Oh ya, I did throw the garbage away but then my mum called and asked me to come home." I mentally slammed myself for thinking of the worst excuse ever.
"Oh alright. Well I'll see you tomorrow." Luke says sounding unsure.
"Yep. See ya."
I press end and let out a loud scream. Hopefully Luke bought that.
I stare down at my phone with my eyebrows furrowing. Emily sounded different. Like she was hiding something.
"Is everything alright mate?" Calum says.
I shrug. "I'm not sure. Is your mum home?"
"No she's at work. Why?" Calum frowns.
"That's weird. Emily just told me that her mum asked her to come home."
"That is weird. Why would Emily lie about that?" Calum says while picking up more garbage.
"Maybe she's hiding something." Michael guesses from inside of the kitchen. He pops his head out from the door while taking a bite of cold pizza.
"But what?" I ask.
It was Monday morning and Ash, Mikey and I were at our lockers grabbing the books we needed for class.
"So did you talk to Emily yet?" Ashton asks with his head inside of his locker making his voice echo.
"Actually no. Luke told me not to. He said that he wanted to talk to her first." I explain as I place textbooks into my backpack.
I carefully watch from my locker at Luke and Emily talk. I couldn't hear what they were saying but Emily looked mad.
"Do you think they're alright?" Mikey glances at the couple for a moment as he spoke.
"I dunno man. It's complicated."
"So you were lying?" Luke asks me again.
"It's complicated. I didn't really lie."
I looked down at my shoes dreading what Luke may ask me next. I couldn't bare to tell him the truth. The truth that I kissed my ex right behind his house. I just couldn't tell him.
"Then just tell me the truth. Why'd you leave? Don't you trust me?"
"Of course I do—" Luke cuts me off.
"If you really do then you'd tell me. I won't get mad. I promise."
Luke places his hand against my face cupping my cheek.
"I-I went outside to throw the garbage away, and when I was coming back someone was there."
Luke looks at me with confusion across his face. "Who?"
I swallow hard and press my lips together.
Luke's eyes widen in shock. "Did he hurt you?"
I shook my head. "No but I was scared and told him to leave. I'm sorry I didn't tell you before. I just didn't want you to freak out. So I just went home. I'm sorry that I lied to you."
Luke's face softens up as he pulls me into a hug. "If you just tell me the truth I'll never be mad at you. Thank god he didn't touch you or I would've killed him."
I fake a giggle. "No need. He actually came to apologize."
Luke stares at me in confusion. "Really?"
"Ya, honestly I didn't expect it since throughout the relationship he never really accepted that he was hurting me."
Without even thinking about the kiss and how much that shocked me, Bradley's apology even shocked me more. Never in a thousand years did I think he was sorry.
"So it's over?" Luke stares into my eyes looking for an answer. I have to lie to him again.
