I've been trying to figure this out in my head all day. But every time I find a solution, I picture Emily running away from me. Her words being thrown in my face.
I must've done something terrible. Something so horrible that she would give up on us.
But I can't think of anything that've done. Our last conversation was great, minus all her crying. She trusted me enough to tell me what Brad did to her. And I told her I'd protect her.
I just don't understand what happened. Everything seemed great and now she hates me.
I walked out of the janitors closet with a sigh. I didn't want to mope but it hurt a lot. She didn't even care enough to explain why she didn't want to be with me.
I reached my locker and pulled my backpack out. As I closed the door I noticed a folded paper at the bottom. I opened it and read it slowly.
I have a lot to explain, but right now I need some space. Please don't be mad. I'm sorry.
I folded the note and shoved it into my pocket whilst slamming my locker shut.
I wanted to shut out the pain. I didn't want Emily to know that her leaving effected me. I won't let her see that.
Thank god school is over for the weekend. I don't think I would've lasted another day with all that tension. I got home and placed my bag on the stairs and walked into the kitchen thinking no one was around. Boy was I wrong.
"Hello Emily." I looked up to see my brother eating an apple sitting around the island with Michael and Ashton. The boys gave me a wave and I gave them a nervous smile. I wonder where Luke is.
"So, how was school?" He asked.
I raised a brow wondering why he was acting so weird.
"It was okay, I guess. Where's Luke?" I questioned casually. I don't want them to suspect anything.
"He's setting up his house party for tonight since his parents are out."
House party? This doesn't sound good.
"That sounds fun. Are you guys going?"
"Hell yes!" Michael spoke excitedly.
"You should come too. It'll be fun." Ashton suggested.
I grabbed a banana and leaned against the fridge.
Calum gave me a shocked look. "Wait, you actually want to come?"
I grinned. I guess this wasn't part of their plan. "Sure, why not? I love parties."
"Okay, we're leaving at 8."
"I didn't think she'd want to come. At all." I spoke once Emily had left the room. I ran my fingers through my hair in frustration. Emily was being really odd lately. Firstly, she won't even talk to me. At all. She's being so closed off which is making me feel like I did something wrong.
"Maybe she was a crazy party girl back in America." Mikey suggested with a laugh. I gave him a serious look.
"That's my sister your talking about." I growled.
He raised his hands. "Cal calm down. It was a joke." He rolled his eyes and stocked off to the fridge for something. He's always hungry.
"So what if she comes? What's the problem?" Ash asked.
"I don't know. Luke wanted us to make her come. He didn't want her to come on her own will."
"Well maybe she could tell that you were trying to do something." Mikey said from the fridge, his back to us and his words muffled by something in his mouth.
"That could be true." Ash said.
"Okay. We just have to act like nothing's up."
I stared at my refection as I took a deep breath. I wasn't sure if the outfit I chose was the right choice. I was wearing some light washed high-waisted jean shorts and a cropped sunflower printed shirt. My hair was in a French braid to the side. This wasn't what I usually would wear.
"Emily! We're leaving. Hurry up!" Calum called down from the stairs. I quickly grabbed my white converse and slipped them on before running out of the house.
I took a seat beside Ashton I the back.
"You look nice." Ashton whispered close to my ear which made me blush.
We got to Luke's house 10 minutes later and the place was already out of control. People were dancing around, grinding actually. Other as were making out on the couch. We were walking to the kitchen but people were pushing and shoving which made Calum nervously grab my hand.
Once we got to the kitchen, we found Luke surrounded by girls. You could tell all of them wanted Luke but when we made contact he pushed them aside and walked towards us.
"Hey, what's up?" He spoke over the loud music. As he was talking to the I decided to wander around the party.
I went over to the dance floor and let my eyes scan over everyone. I didn't see anyone that I knew at all.
Maybe I shouldn't have come. This was a total bust. I was about to leave when I felt someone tape my shoulder. I turned around and saw a tall boy with blue eyes and blond hair.
"Hi, my names Tristan." He extended his hand out to me. I couldn't help but notice his accent.
"Hi, I'm Emily." We shook hands.
"I couldn't help but notice you. You're very beautiful."
I could feel the heat rising off my face.
"Wow, thank you." I grinned.
"Do you wanna dance?" He asked.
This Tristan guy seemed really nice. It'll be only one dance.
Tristan grabbed my hand and led me to the dance floor and we stopped in front of each other. Suddenly, he broke out in some hilarious dance moves making me laugh so hard that it hurt.
"Oh my god!" I giggled.
"C'mon Emily! Twerk with me!" He grabbed my hands and starters shaking his upper body along with mine.
We danced for a couple more songs until we got tired.
"That was so much fun!" I said. We were walking towards the kitchen for a drink.
"Wasn't it? I haven't danced like that in a while."
"So do you live around here?" Tristan asked as he handed me a couple full of something that looked like coca cola.
"Ya, actually I live down the street. This is actually my brothers best friends party, his name is Luke." I took a sip of the drink and let the cool refreshment burn the back of my throat.
"What is this?" I looked in the cup.
"Coke and vodka." I looked to see Luke. He was talking to me but eyeing Tristan.
"Hi, the names Luke. Who might you be?" He asked.
"Tristan. Nice party man." Tristan said with a smirk.
"Wait is that a British accent I hear?" Luke said whilst throwing an arm around my shoulder. Tristan gave a look like 'what the fuck' but I shrugged my shoulders.
"Ya, actually it is. I'm here with my band recording some songs."
"You're in a band?" Luke looked stunned.
"Yep, I'm the drummer."
"Hmm, are your band mates around?" I asked trying to lessen the tension.
"Ya, they should be around here somewhere."
Tristan went off to look for his band mates so I finally pushed Luke off.
"You don't have to be so noisy. You don't even know him."
Luke rolled his eyes. "Do you? I saw you dancing with him. What of he was a creep?"
I shook my head. "Are you jealous? You were just with like 10 girls. I don't think me dancing with someone matters."
"I'm not jealous. I'm just worried."
"Well worry less."
"Found them!" I turned to see Tristan coming back with three other guys.
"This is James, Connor," Tristan said as he pointed to the boys. "And this is Bradley."
Connor moved to the side and the boy named Bradley took a step forward. When our eyes met I backed away quickly.
"Emily?" Bradley stared at me in shock. I could feel my mouth going dry.
"This can't be happening." I spoke to myself.
"Emily, it's me. Brad."
