"Is that the last box?" I ask before collapsing onto the bed. "Ya, that was. Thanks for helping me Calum." She smiles at me before laying down beside me.
"No problem. You know I'll do anything for you sis. Just name it. I'm just so happy you're back home."
I sit up so I'm resting on my elbows. Emily looks at me with a grin plastered on her face. She really does look happy, and I was happy for her. It hasn't been the same since our parents spit. We were only 12. And yes, Emily's my twin sister.
Anyways, when our parents got their divorce they started fighting over who would keep us. It was a disaster. Mum wouldn't let Dad keep us and it was the same for him.
I remember how they'd fight at night keeping Emily and I awake. She would start to cry but I'd always be there for her. I knew we had to stick together. But it wasn't long after that we found out that Mum got custody of me and Dad got Emily. We didn't know what to do. She was my sister, my best friend, my other half and Dad was taking her away for good. That was the first time I ever cried when I watched him take her away to America.
"Calum?" Emily's voice breaks my train of thought. I shake my head and give her a weak smile. "Sorry, just thinking about things."
I let out a sigh. It's been 5 years since Emily's been back. She is now 17 and she still looked the same to me. Her hair was that same soft long black hair that she inherited from Mum. Her eyes were like mine, dark and large. The only thing that looked different was her skin that used to golden when she lived here was now pale from the cold weather in New York.
She reaches over and pulls me into her arms. "I know this must be hard Cal, but I'm here now just like you were there for me."
Taking a deep breath, I will myself to rest my head on her shoulder. She was right, it is hard seeing Emily after all those years without her. I didn't think I'd make it this far but I did. I missed her like crazy.
"I really missed you Emily. I'm never letting anyone take you away from me ever again." I peck her cheek and she giggles. "Thanks Cal." She gives me one last hug before jumping off her bed and starts unpacking things.
"So," I start. "Ready for school tomorrow?" I ask. Emily groans and turns back to me. "What if people don't like me?" She questions.
I get up and start unpacking a box. "Everyone will love you. You're my twin remember, were exactly the same." I joke. Emily rolls her eye but still had a smile on her face.
"I mean if I'll make any friends that are girls. I've always been friends with guys." I watch as she pulls a stack of books from a box and lines them neatly in her book shelf.
"Well maybe it's better that way, girls can be total snobs sometimes." I tell her trying to be as serious as possible. "Hey! I'm a girl." She laughs.
I chuckle whilst wrapping arms around her. "Ya but you're the girl version of me. It doesn't count."
We continued to joke around for the rest of the day as we finished unpacking Emily's stuff. I got to tell her about everything that has been going on here in Sydney and at school while she was away.
"Damn, I missed so much." She speaks softly. We both were back on her bed after we had cleaned up. I look into her eyes sympathetically. It was like gazing into my eyes.
"You did, but it was only 5 years Emily. We can still do so many things together. It's not that bad." I explain.
I look at the time on my watch and saw that it was 12:56am.
"It's getting late, and you should better get some rest before school tomorrow." I was about to get up but felt Emily's small hand grab onto my wrist.
"Calum, can you stay? Just like before?" She whispers. I look down at her and nod my head.
"Okay but no kicking please." I joke. Emily smiles before resting her head onto my chest.
"It's good to have you back big sis." I mumble in her ear before we both drift off into a deep sleep.
I let my eyes flutter open knowing that I had to get up. First day back in school here in Sydney. I'm actually kind of nervous. See, once I moved away I lost contact with everyone except for Calum. He was the only one that would talk to me. Now I'll be going back and everyone will be there. It's going to be horrible.
I try to pull myself out of bed but feel a tight grip around my waist. I glance over to my shoulder to see Calum. I totally forgot that I asked him to stay.
I reach over and start to shake him gently. "Cal, we need to get up." I laugh when I saw a small pout on his lips. "Calum..." I trail off.
Calum doesn't move. "I don't want to go." He mutter. I rolled my eyes and crawled out of his arms. I headed for the shower and quickly took one. Once I was finished, I decided on wearing some black ripped skinny jeans, my favourite Ramones shirt and a jean vest. I brushed my hair letting it go naturally and put some eyeliner and mascara on. I liked to keep it simple.
I stepped out and saw that Calum was sitting on my bed already dressed and ready to go.
"Wow that was quick." I smiled. I grabbed my bag and books while walking out of my room after Calum.
"Ya because girls are way slower when they get ready."
We got downstairs and headed to the kitchen where Mum was cooking breakfast.
"Good morning sweetie." She spoke. I smiled and gave her a hug.
"It's good to see that you still make breakfast even though Calum is totally capable of making it himself."
"Hey, I'll never be able to cook like Mum." He said. We all took a seat and had breakfast.
"Alright, I'll see you guys later. Have fun at school, and Calum take care of your sister." She gave us a kiss on the cheek.
"Of course Mum." Calum smiled. We headed out and got to school early. No one was around which was weird.
"So, this is where my friends and I sit at lunch." Calum spoke as we walked into the courtyard.
"You guys don't sit in the cafeteria?" I asked.
"It's nicer out here. And sometimes we practice songs and it sounds way better then inside." He explained.
I was about to take a seat but Calum grabbed my arm.
"Come on, we should get your schedule from the office."
We got to the office and they gave me my schedule and locker combo. Calum started dragging me down halls until we stopped in front of a locker.
"Oh, your locker is beside Lu—" Calum was cut off by a boy screaming his name.
"Calum! You'll never believe this." The boy ran up to Cal with a wide grin on his face.
I looked at the boy. He had blond/brown hair and it stood up on his head in a quiff. His eyes were a sparkling blue and I just wanted to stare into them. He was quite tall but just looking at his arms I could tell his was muscular. He smiled at Calum and that's when I noticed his lip piercing.
"What?" Calum asked. It was like he forgot about me. I rolled my eyes and let them talk.
"I don't know know how, but we have our first gig!" They both started jumping around and Calum gave him a hug.
"Wow, our first gig. When is it?" Calum questioned.
"It's this Friday so we need to start practicing."
I finally figured out my locker combo and placed the heavy books inside. I looked down at my schedule and saw that I had English and Art first thing.
"Hey Calum, what do you have first period?" Calum stopped talking to his friend and turned to me.
"English. Let me see your schedule." As Calum reads through the list I can't help but notice his friend staring at me. It was making me a little uncomfortable.
"We only have 3 classes together but I think you have some with Luke, Ashton, and Michael as well."
I furrow my eyebrows. Why does that name sound so familiar? Luke...
"You're Luke." I say pointing to the boy standing behind my brother. He gives me a nod before extending his hand towards me.
"Yep, Luke Hemmings. And who might you be?" He asks with a smile.
I reach out and shake his hand. It felt ruff at the tips but softer in the palm.
A strange look goes over Luke's face. "Wait, what? Are you related to Calum?"
I giggle. "Actually he kinda shares my DNA. He's my brother." I explain. Luke's hand was still wrapped around mine as he stares between Calum and me.
"You guys are twins?" He stare in shock.
Calum rolls his eyes. "Identical if you have to know." He stands between us. "Let's get to class so we can introduce Ms. Parker to Emily." Calum says. He throws an arm over my shoulder and he did the same for Luke.
"You know, I think this is gonna be a good year." Calum grins at the both of us.
"And why is that?" I ask curious.
"Because I got my best friend and my sister with me."
Luke and I smile at how happy Calum was acting. I hope he stays like that forever.
