I was perched in a ridiculously fancy cafe, on top of a balcony that overlooked a lot of the shopping centre, so I could see Lillian coming. I felt uncomfortable in the cafe, it was so posh and I'm so...not. Absentmindedly, I watched people wander by. Then I saw a girl headed straight for the cafe. No way...
I turned my attention to the doors, tense. Then in she walked. She was certainly my twin- she had the same brown hair, the same large hazel eyes with that speckle of blue in the left iris, the same button nose sprinkled with freckles and the small mouth that was permanently in a wonky grin. But, she was also so different. Her hair was poker straight and shined, she was covered in makeup and her clothes...well her clothes marked her as the kind of girl who I rolled my eyes at because they were ridiculously rich it was unfair. Her thin legs were accentuated by black knee length socks and a pair of sky high heels that I noticed were the latest designer models and a black and pink minidress that practically screamed money.
The initial shock started to fade but I could also tell by the look in her eyes that she was also shocked by how I looked- I quickly remembered how I looked and stared at the ground in embarrassment. She looked like some kind of super model and I looked like some kind of tramp in comparison.
"Alexandra?" I heard her say, in my voice.
I looked up and nodded.
"Eeeeek, I'm so happy to see you! I can't believe I'm finally seeing you again!"
She pulled me into a hug and I hugged her back somewhat awkwardly. When she finally released me, she motioned for me to sit again and she sat across from me in one of those ridiculously fancy pink chairs embroidered with vines and dainty flowers.
"Well," she said "I'm not going to lie when I say I'm a little shocked by how you look... I thought you'd look..." she trailed off, unsure as to what to say.
"Posh?" I replied "Just like you? Because I'm sorry to disappoint you but we don't have much money."
"I'm not posh!" she exclaimed.
"Have you seen yourself? You look like you've just come from a massive hollywood party or something."
"Well...it wasn't a hollywood party but it was a fancy dinner."
"You pretty much just proved my point there haha."
She feigned an annoyed look at me but we both just burst out laughing. Then we got to chatting. I told her about mum and dad, my job, my interests and she told me about her adopted parents, the money, the glamour, the parties and we seemed to get along pretty well. We talked easily, as if we'd known each other all of our lives. But suddenly, she stopped and began to look anxious and uncertain.
"Hey, Lily? Are you okay?"
She chewed her lip for a second and then looked at me. "Well....you see...I haven't told you the real reason that I'm actually here."
I looked at her.
But then the lights went out.
