Over the next few days, Holly planned and thought hard of where Harry might be. Her only conscious thought was to find her twin.
‘We can find the Horcruxes together,’ she thought, ‘Enough of this separation shit.’ Holly craved human company. After getting a taste for it at the Lupins that’s all she thought about. Don’t get her wrong, she loved Gryphon deeply, but it was nice to talk to someone who would answer back.
Holly had started to pay close attention to her weird dreams. She concluded that they weren’t as random as she thought and tried to piece together what they meant. One night, she experienced a very vivid dream about her radio. In her dream, she was playing with it, like she had been doing for months to pass the time. However, instead of pushing random buttons, the dream Holly spoke something into the speaker portion. Suddenly the antenna rose up, without Holly having to press the button. A light appeared out of nowhere and started to mov-
Gryphon’s low growl had startled Holly awake. She looked at the dog and saw that he was still lying beside her but his face was pointed to the door of the tent. Holly got up slowly, wand raised, and walked to the door. She peered about but all she saw was trees and fallen leaves on the ground. Holly whispered to Gryphon to be quiet and they walked slowly out of the tent, seeing what he was growling about.
Gryphon led Holly to the edge of their protective enchantments. From here Holly could see what the problem was. A little off in the distance was a group of about 5 or 6 men in dark, bulky clothing. She could catch snippets of their conversation as the wind carried it her way.
“This Taboo is doing wonders for our Snatching eh boys?”
“-five snatches, and three wands today!”
“He’s brilliant he is, putting it on ‘is name. Ou-no-who will catch those Order people in a ‘eartbeat”
Holly’s throat caught at the last words, ‘So Voldemort but a Taboo on his name.’ Suddenly the need to find Harry escalated from a ‘want’ to a ‘have to’. Holly led Gryphon away from the thugs and quickly went back to their tent. She packed up quietly and Apparated when she was sure they had left the forest. Holly was confident her spells had shielded her from view, but the news of the Taboo had frightened her.
Once she appeared at a new area and set up the tent for Gryphon to keep warm in, she immediately pulled out her radio, remembering her dream. Holly looked at it every which way, unknowing what to do next. She hadn’t heard what the dream-Holly had spoken into the speaker.
Holly thought for a moment, then whispered into the speaker, “I need to find my brother”. Immediately the antenna rose from the radio and turned this way and that. When it finally stopped, a light emerged from the disk at the top. The blueish-gray light hovered for a moment and then started to move towards Holly. Before she could stop it, the light moved to her head and went inside. At once Holly knew where to go.
Without a moment to loose, the tent was packed up and Holly and Gryphon Apparated to the setting sun. They arrived at the Forest of Dean and immediately set up camp again. The pair explored the forest but saw no sign of Harry, Ron or Hermione. Holly decided to stay in this forest for a few days, just in case she missed anything or had come before the trio had.
It wasn’t until midnight on the third day that she saw movement. She had been sitting just inside the tent flap, unable to sleep. Holly had been scanning the forest, looking for any sign of life besides the plants. Suddenly there was a loud CRACK that echoed through the night. Holly wasn’t sure if it was someone Apparating or a limb falling off a tree. Bored and curious, Holly and Gryphon started walking to where the noise had seemed to come from. They searched for a few minutes but found no sign of anything that would make that noise.
Holly turned back to walk back to the tent when she noticed Gryphon wasn’t by her side. She turned back and saw the dog was staring at something a few hundred meters away. Holly squinted her eyes and realized it was a doe. But no regular doe, it was a Patronus. It’s shimmering blue-white lighted head turned in her direction, then indicated with its head that she should follow. Holly started to follow the Patronus, almost like she was in a trance.
Gryphon’s sharp bark shook Holly out of her trance. She turned and saw Gryphon walk a few meters away from her, in the opposite direction of the doe. Holly turned back and saw that the doe was walking to a small patch of ice ahead. She longed to go and see what the mysterious doe was trying to tell her. However, she trusted Gryphon and followed after him.
She had just caught up with him when she heard movement in the trees. She braced herself, wand raised, ready for what was hiding in the darkness. Holly thought she could hear a faint whisper, like a cloak gliding over the fallen leaves. Holly gulped, then spoke, ‘Lumos!’Holly’s wandtip lit up the forest around her. She managed to see a black figure before it Disapparated in a CRACK.
Holly cursed. She and Gryphon hurried back to the patch of ice where the doe had been standing. As they got closer Holly could see that it wasn’t a patch of ice but a small frozen pond. There was a hole in the ice, life someone had fallen through. As Holly moved to examine it closer, she saw that it was a clean cut.
‘A wizard cut this hole’ she concluded. Holly looked around and noticed a raised root on a nearby tree had been cut. It was fresh, and seemed to be cut by a sharp object, either a knife or a sword. Holly explored the rest of the woods and failed to see any sign of life, even the Patronus was long gone.
She cursed again. It seemed as though she had missed Harry by minutes. But Gryphon had done an amazing job at protecting her, if she had followed the doe, who knows what the figure in the black cloak would have done. Holly gave Gryphon an extra portion of food as a reward when they got back to their tent and they both settled in for another long, chilly night.
