My Brothers

*For the Salvage competition*
At first, I didn't believe it either. But the gods of Olympus are real. And sometimes, these gods have children with humans. I'm one of them. My name is Devon Castellan. And I am the son of Poseidon, the god of the sea and May Castellan. I was given a quest by my father. I was to find my brother, Percy, and help him. Help him save the Olympus and give him some important information. But I never thought that I was Luke Castellan's brother.

3. Three

~~I didn’t know who this Luke was. I had to ask Percy. I went out of the room. Chiron was waiting for me.
“Did you get the information and your quest, Devon?”
I nodded.
“I can’t believe I’m a son of Poseidon. If Percy dies, I’m going to be the one in the prophecy, right?”
Chiron looked surprised.
“How do you know about the prophecy? Did Poseidon tell you?”
I shook my head.
“Percy did.”
I walked out of the big house to see Percy waiting for me. Annabeth was with him. But Grover wasn’t with them.
I walked towards them.
“It was nothing, really… He just told me to be careful. And he told me that my dad’s Poseidon.”
Annabeth, Percy, and Grover stared at me. Percy looked terrified.
“Oh my gods, Devon… You will be in so much danger… Zeus and Hades would try to kill you.”
Grover said, quietly, “Holy Styx, another Poseidon half-blood…”
Annabeth grabbed my hand and said, “Let’s test it. Chiron may be wrong. Percy. Where did you heal your wounds?”
Percy shook his head.
“Annabeth, do you honestly think that Chiron would’ve made a mistake? You are absolutely crazy... I’ll show you where though…”
Grover murmured, “I sure do hope Annabeth’s right.”
I asked, “Why are you trying to think that I’m not a son of Poseidon? What’s the big deal? Isn’t it awesome to be a son of the eldest gods? I don’t understand.”
Percy looked at me and shook his head.
“You don’t know what you’re dealing with, Devon. Being a son of one of the most powerful gods isn’t that great as you think. One, because of that prophecy thing, almost every god will try to kill you. Especially Zeus and Hades. So you can’t ride planes. That’s the easiest way Zeus can kill you.”
I stared at Percy. I can’t ride planes? That’s terrible! I never rode a plane in my entire life. And one of my dreams was to ride a plane.
“Two, you have a lot of pressure on you. Since you are a son of that great god, Poseidon, everyone expects you to be number one in everything. Lastly, more monsters try to kill you. Your scent is stronger than the other demigods.”
I felt terrible after hearing those disadvantages of being a son of Poseidon. Now, I wished that I wasn’t a son of Poseidon.
But I was. Poseidon himself told me. I followed along slowly as Percy, Annabeth, and Grover walked to a lake.
When we reached the lake, Percy, Annabeth, and Grover stopped.
Annabeth told Percy, “Percy, test him if he can do the things that you can do. Make sure you don’t kill him though.”
Percy laughed.
“I won’t kill him, Annie. You’re overreacting.”
Percy turned to me.
“Now, Devon, jump into the water. If you are a son of Poseidon, you can breathe underwater and your clothes won’t get wet.”
Percy jumped into the water. He swam around, playfully. It was as if water was a friend to him.
He shouted, “C’mon, Devon! We don’t have all the time in the world!”
I jumped into the water. Amazingly, I could breathe underwater. And I could feel my clothes, dry.
I shouted, “My clothes! They’re perfectly dry!”
Percy said, “You are a son of Poseidon. Annabeth can’t deny it.”

Annabeth shouted, "Percy! Is he a son of Poseidon? You must know!"

Percy swam to the shore and stood next to Annabeth. I stood next to him, wondering what Annabeth's reaction would be like.

He said, "Annabeth, he is one. He can do the things that I can do. He can breath underwater and his clothes didn't get wet even though he was in the water for three minutes or so. Annabeth, you can't deny it."

She shook her head.

"Poor Devon... I saw what Percy's been through..."

I said, "I'm going to be fine guys. Honestly. Don't worry about me. And can I ask one question?"

Percy nodded.

"Sure. What is it?"

I told him, "Chiron said something about a boy named Luke. Who is he?"

Percy, Annabeth, and Grover exchanged looks

Percy said, "Luke Castellan? Son of Hermes? That guy?"

I nodded. So we did have the same last name... I hoped that Percy wouldn't notice that we had like the same exact last name.

Percy sighed.

"He's mad at his father for ignoring him. He came to camp when he was fourteen… His father gave him a quest. But he forgot about Luke. Luke was angry for a couple of years. Then, he decided to go against the gods by resurrecting Kronos. He wanted to show the gods that the demigods didn’t want to be ignored. So he’s basically angry at his father. He asked me to join several times. And to be honest, I sort of wanted to join him because I was angry at Poseidon, too, for ignoring me. But I managed to say no.”

So that was the reason Poseidon didn’t want me to tell Percy about the gifts he gave me. He didn’t want Percy to think that he was being ignored and join Luke.

I said, "Oh. Are you going to defeat this Luke?"

Annabeth told me, "We just need to change Luke back to his old self. We don't need to kill him."

Percy rolled his eyes.

"Annabeth, Luke is never going to change. All we can do to help save the world is to kill Luke and stop Kronos from resurrecting."

Annabeth looked at Percy and shook her head.

"I know Luke, Seaweed Brain. And he's nicer than you think."

Percy shook his head.

"Luke changed, Annabeth. Deal with it."

Percy and Annabeth continued to argue on. Grover tried to stop them.

I just stood there, thinking. Why did Dad want me to help Percy? And why was the fact that I am Luke's brother so important?
