I got out of the water hours later and put my shirt back on. I went back into my cabin, expecting Percy to be there. But no one was there.
The cabin was dark. I sat down on my bed and took out the pen-sword.
I said, "What do I do now? I bet Artemis hates me for life."
I sighed. Suddenly, Percy came in.
He said, "Did you have a fight with Artemis? You're talking about the Artemis in Aphrodite cabin right? Not the goddess Artemis?"
I told him, "I had a little fight with her and I don't know what to do."
"Relax. You'll be friends with her again in no time! Annabeth and I have fights and arguments all the time! We can't really even have a whole conversation without strangling each other. But we're still friends!"
I looked at him with jealousy. He was talking about how Annabeth and he were good friends again. But I could tell that Annabeth and Percy didn't just like each other just as friends. I know that they liked each other. But since Annabeth and Percy weren't the kind of people who were like, 'Oh! I love you so much! You are looking so cute today!', I know that they would never admit that they love each other.
And even though I love Artemis, I still do like Annabeth. Her great warrior skills and her beauty. She was perfect for me.
But I knew that she only thought of me as her best friend's brother.
I said, "Artemis and I are different. You and Annabeth have been friends for a long time. But we've only been friends for like two weeks. I don't think we can manage to be friends again. Maybe I should find some other friends."
Percy sat by me and asked me, "Do you want to know something interesting?"
I said, "What is it?"
Percy told me, "I know that you love Artemis. You want Artemis to be more than your best friend."
I thought, 'And she apparently likes someone else who is apparently sitting next to me, trying to make me feel better.'
I said, trying to look natural, "How do you know? Is it obvious?"
Percy smiled and shook his head.
"Annabeth told me. I don't know bits about girls and all this romantic stuff. But apparently, Annabeth found out and she told me. But don't worry. She didn't tell anyone else."
Oh great. Annabeth knows. So it would probably never work between Annabeth and me. I guess I'll have to stick with Artemis.
I said, "Oh. I'll try to make up with Artemis tomorrow. If she isn't all mad at me."
Percy stood up and said, looking up at the ceiling, "Annabeth, Grover, Tyson and I are leaving tomorrow."
I asked, "Can I go with you?"
"You don't even know where we are going!"
I said, in all seriousness, "I know. You guys are going into the labyrinth. I heard you guys talking when I was training alone. Sorry."
Percy patted me on the shoulder and said, "It's alright, Dev. I used to do that a lot, too. But sorry, I don't think you can go. It's too dangerous."
I knew that he would say that.
I said, "Ok, Percy. Anyway, I have a big mission tomorrow."
"Good luck with it."
