Let me start from the beginning and tell you the story of how my whole life changed. I was raised by my grandparents and they always told me my parents were killed when I was a baby. I never questioned that until I lost both of my grandparents. My grandmothers last words to me were "Your real name is Nicole Singer" I had no clue what she was talking about. I soon found out and unfortunately for me it was the hard way. This is my story.
"Only two weeks till your birthday and it's the last birthday where you can say you're in your twenty's so we have to do something big" Toya said as we were going through some old pictures of my grandmothers.
"Yes I know, please don't remind me because it's rather depressing" I say with a sly smile "We need to go on a great adventure. It can be in honor of our lost youth." We both fall into a fit of giggles.
"I can't believe how many photos my grandmother had stashed away. I guess because she lost my dad she wanted to make sure she had plenty of pictures of me. It's embarrassing really."
"Well it just shows how much your grandparents loved you."
"Yeah I guess. You know she said something strange to me right before she passed. She said my real name is Nicole Singer. I don't know if it was the medication talking or if what she said is true."
"Well maybe you'll find some clues going through all of the stuff she left you." Toya looks up and sees that I'm not paying attention "Hooker that better be one hot guy you're looking at if you're not listening to me."
I look up with tears in my eyes "I think I just found a picture of my dad." This is the first time I've ever seen a photo of my dad and I realize I look just like him. Toya walks over and puts her arm around me as I wipe away the tears.
"Who's the other guy?" She asks as she takes the photo from my hand she turns it over and says "Well that answers my question. It says here Jason and Bobby 1993. I wonder who Bobby is?"
"I'm not sure but I'm going to find out. There are a few more pictures here of the same guy. The back of this one says Sioux Falls 1993. I guess I know where our adventure is going to start." I put the photos in my purse and grab my suitcase out of my closet. I tell Toya to pack a suitcase if she wants to come along.
"There is no way I'm letting you go alone. Give me 30 minutes and I'll be ready to leave." She walks to her room and I start packing my clothes. I figure we won't be gone that long so I pack light. I pull the pictures back out of my purse and this time I notice a sign in the background of one of them that says Singer Salvage. I sit down at my computer and google Singer Salvage Sioux Falls and come up with an address. I plug it into my GPS and start taking my things to the car.
"Let's get this rock-n-roll fiasco on the road" Toya says as she walks out the door.
"Sioux Falls here we come. I hope this small town can handle the two of us because as far as I'm concerned my birthday party is officially under way." We climb into my 1967 Shelby Mustang GT 500 and crank up some AC/DC highway to hell. Little do we know that's exactly what we are on.
