Highway to Hell

Just when I thought I had life figured out everything changes. I just hope it's for the better.

2. Road Trip

There's nothing better than being on the open road in the fall. The leaves have started to turn and they are beautiful shades of red, orange, and yellow. It's nice outside so we have the windows down and the music up. What could be better than a road trip with your best friend. Toya turns down the music and says "We should stop in Kansas City."

"Yes we should. I say we stop there for the night and paint the town red then get a hotel and rest up before we drive the rest of the way" I say with a big grin on my face.

"I'll do some research and see what kind of trouble we can get into" says Toya. I can tell she's just as excited as I am. She pulls out my laptop and turns on our mobile hotspot and starts looking up places we should go.

"I want to make the most of this trip. Even though we are going to find out what my family's big secret is doesn't mean we can't have fun."

As she is doing the research I stare out the window thinking about what I might find and I start to wonder if I'm ready for this. The more I think about it the more nervous I get, but I decide there is no turning back now. I learned a long time ago that life always throws you curveballs when you least expect it.

"Hey hooker are you hungry cause I could use some food" Toya says breaking me out of my trance.

"Yes, I'm starving. We'll stop at the next exit and garb something. What sounds good?" I ask. I hate picking places to eat because nothing ever sounds good unless someone else recommends it.

"It looks like there's a Wendy's, BK, DQ and a McDonald's up ahead" Toya says, "I wouldn't mind a bacon cheeseburger from Wendy's."

"Yum a spicy chicken doesn't sound bad either."

"You're gonna turn into a chicken one of these days."

"Hey you know how I get on my food kicks. This week it's chicken." I stick my tongue out at her as we pull into the parking lot and she just rolls her eyes at me. We pull into a parking spot and notice this strange guy standing close to the door.

"Creeper alert" I say as we grab our wallets out of our purses.

"Yeah he does look kinda creepy. Maybe he's just homeless though" Toya says and we climb out of the car. Just to be sure I lock the doors on the car. The closer we get to the guy the more creeped out I am. I can't put my finger on it but there is something not right about him. We walk inside and get our food and sit down at a table.

"So I've been thinking and what if I was adopted and they just didn't want to tell me.

"I don't think you were adopted you look to much like your grandmother."

"I don't know. I just can't seem to figure out what's going on and I really hope I get some answers soon." We finish eating and walk back to the car. I unlock the doors and this strange feeling comes over me. I look up and see someone standing In the tree line. It's the same guy that was standing at the door when we first pulled up and I swear I see his eyes flash black before he turns and walks away. The hair stand up on the back of my neck and I hear Toya say "Get in the car bitch. Let's go."

I get in the car but I have an uneasy feeling that something is wrong. I start the car and we head out. Toya plugs in her iPod and before to long the man in the woods is forgotten and we are singing along to Bohemian Rhapsody.
