Through the Dark

Selena has a hard life at home and she gets bullied in school. Her five personal nightmares, called Zayn, Liam, Louis, Niall and Harry, do everything to ruin her life. But what happens when one of them reaches out his hand to help her? Is this all a trick to push her more down or will her life change in a good way?

1. "Little innocent Selala”

Selena Hoult, that's me. I'm 18 years old and a Senior. I'm not that good in school, because I got no time to learn. When school is done, I get home and do the house hold, since my mom is, well, a drug addict. Dad left us, mom, me and my siblings, years ago and married another women. I got stepsiblings, but I don't know them. Dad always offers us to move in with them, but... I don't want to leave my Mom. I just don't want her to be alone. And because of all that I am bullied. A lot.

And that's my story.

I took a deep breath before I opened my locker. The hallway was empty and I was late for my next lesson. The bell rang a few minutes ago, but that was fine with me. I stow my math and chemistry books in my locker, before I heard boys laughing. I froze.

"Oh no... quick, hurry!," I said to myself and wanted to grab my biology book, but it fell to the ground, along with some other folders, books and pencils.

I heard the boys came nearer and nearer and then they came around the corner. Immediately they stopped talking and stared at me. I turned my head to see, who was standing there, even though I know, who it was.

My personal five real life nightmares: Zayn, Louis, Liam, Harry and Niall.

"Oh, look who we have here. Little innocent Selala," Zayn said, while taking a step towards me. Liam and Harry laughed and they all followed him.

"Leave me alone," I said, but my voice was so weak. I stooped and tried to pick up my pencils, but Zayn had his foot on them.

"May I help you?," he asked, grinned and reached out just to kick off the pencils. Louis laughed and joined him, while the others kicked away my books and folders.

And I... I did nothing, because I exactly knew, that it would change nothing at all.

When my entire stuff was scattered all over the hallway, I asked "Are you done yet?"

Zayn, the leader, laughed and said "Not yet."

He came closer and took my glasses. Then he still came closer and stopped right in front of me and threw my glasses behind him.

"Now we're done, Selala," he said, while pushing my shoulder so I fell backwards.

They all started to laugh and Liam added "Have a nice day!" and looked down on me lying on the floor.

Their laughter quieted down when they got off and I tried to hold my tears back.

"Here," a way too familiar voice said and I looked up.

Niall stood in front of me, holding my glasses in his hand.

I reached out and took it from him, saying a little "Thanks."

He helped me up off the floor and before anyone could say something we heard Harry, yelling "Niall, come on!"

Niall looked at me and whispered "I'm sorry" before he started running towards his gang, yelling "I'm coming, guys!"

He's sorry? For what? If it's for ruining my life he's pretty late.

He had already helped me, but that was years ago. His parents and my stood very close, before my parents divorced. And since then... we had nothing to do with each other.

As children, we were good friends, but we were no longer children. Everyone took care of themselves and I expected no help from him.

Finally, he was one of my worst bullies, what could I have expected from him or from anyone else, when they all were afraid of them? Okay, not everybody hated them, only the Geeks, Nerds and Losers. Short: people like me.

The other ones all had the same opinion. For them Niall, Zayn, Louis, Liam and Harry were the funniest, hottest, coolest, cutest and most popular guys in the world and they all wanted to be their friends.

To me... they were just the meanest and most horrible persons I could ever imagine and I wanted nothing to do with them.

I shook my head, collected my stuff and put it back in my locker. Than I finally made my way to Biology.

"So, who knows the answer of number 2b?," our Biology teacher Ms. Stewart asked. No one raised his hand, everybody was staring at their desks.

"What about you, Gina?," she asked and Gina mumbled something, no one understood.

"Okay… And you, Selena?," I looked up at her.

I really liked Ms. Stewart. She was kind and her homework was never too much, but... I hated Biology.

"No, sorry," I said and she shook her head.

"Louis?," she asked and he said "Sorry, Ms. S" and smiled at her, what made her smile.

Then she looked at all of us and said "Guys, if you are not interested in Biology, fine. But you have to do your homework, finally you have to write tests. What do you think your grades come from? We're going to have Exam compensation. I will assign partners and then you will inform you about certain areas. Then you'll present it to the course, okay?"

Again nobody said something.

"Okay?," she asked again and looked strictly at us.

"Okay!," a few students said and she smiled.

"So, let's take a look at the illustration on page 57..."

After the lesson, I wanted to leave the class, but she stopped me.

"Selena, can I talk to you?," she asked me and I nodded. When the last had left the class, I sat down on one of the top places and looked at her.

"You need to improve necessarily, Selena," she began and I nodded again. "As I have seen, biology is your worst subject, although it is so easy! With the partner work I'll give you a chance. You have to necessarily earn points; otherwise you will not pass the course. That's why I'm going to make you in a group with one of my best students. Take advantage of the chance well, there'll probably not be one again," she said and I stood up.

"Thank you, Ms. Stewart," I said and she smiled one last time before I left the room.

In the cafeteria, I stood for a long time waiting for my lunch and all that just for a hamburger and a water. After I paid, I sat down at the last free table in the back in the corner. I passed the people, who loved the sciences, the Football team, the cheerleaders, the artist group...

And then I sat alone at my table, waiting for him. Finally, he walked through the doors, turned in and took a tray.

My one and only true friend. Josh and I were now for almost 6 years best friends. He had the chance to join Zayn's Gang, but he chose me. Since then we have both been bullied, but with him at my side, I no longer felt alone. He is my best friend and I really love him like a brother. I mean, how couldn't you? He's not that tall or has a lot of muscles, but he's at my side when I need him and that's important.

He didn't need long to look after me, he knew where we always sat. His big smile greeted me from afar and I smiled back, the first time that day. But then I saw one of the guys, which he was passing, stretched out his leg and Josh fell down together with his tray. The food went flying and his drink rolled away.

"Can't you watch?," he asked acidic and slowly stood up.

"I'm sorry, I've probably just didn't notice you," Harry said and smiled at him innocently.

"Sure," he said, picking up his bottle and let the rest of his lunch laying.

Finally, he sat down beside me at the table. The smile had passed him.

"You can still take some of my food," I offered him and finally he looked at me.

He had a small smile on his lips and said, "Thanks, but I'm not hungry," and at that very moment his stomach growled.

"Yeah, right," I said and we both laughed. I pushed the tray in his direction and he took the burger in his hands and looked at me again questioningly.

"You sure?"

"Yeah, eat it," I said with a smile and he bit into it with relish.

I turned on my bottle and took a sip. Meanwhile, I looked around the large room. The students sat at their tables and ate, laughed, talked. Every time I was with Josh, I could forget my thoughts and feel like a normal girl.

But suddenly I had a bad feeling. It felt as if someone was watching me.

Slowly I let my eyes slide further and finally discovered Niall, who threw to me every now and then glances from the corner of his eyes.

I quickly looked back at Josh.

I knew that Zayn's Gang didn't like it when one of the losers stared at them.

"What's going on?," Josh asked me with his mouth full and I had to laugh at his pronunciation. Then I looked at the table and locked the bottle.

"Hm?," he prompted and I looked at him again.

"It's because of Niall," I said, and he grimaced.

"What did they do?"
