At this point, Maggie was incapable of speech as she was too busy staring at the guy in front of her. He cocked an eyebrow and crossed his arms, as if he was daring her to question who he was.
“Who are you?” She asked, well, demanded.
“Alex.” He smirked, obviously amused as he didn’t even bother trying to hide it.
“Are you quite done?” Maggie snapped back, appalled at his rudeness.
“Says the girl tied to a chair, with an arrow supposedly in her leg…which doesn’t seem to be there…?” He trailed off, turning around to look at the other two.
“Care to explain Will? What about you Jess?” He asked them again with the same attitude that he gave Maggie. She started to gather that it was a regular thing for him.
“Uh, it disappeared.” Jessica’s brother, who seemed to be called Will, tried to say but Alex’s mouth dropped open in shock anyway.
“What did you just say?” He hissed, trying to push his memories out, and focus on the matter at hand.
“Well, the girl was sort of lying on the ground-” “I have a name”, Maggie snapped but Will continued, “And as I shot it, it just started to push itself out and mend. Now she only has a small white scar, much like we do…” He trailed off, the last part slightly quieter so Maggie couldn’t hear him.
“So, you think she’s one of us?” Alex asked, cocking his eyebrow yet again. Jesus, you don’t reckon it’d get sore? Being stuck all the way up there all constantly- though she was the one to talk, tied to a chair and unable to move.
“NO!” Jessica practically shouted with malice coating her words. “There’s no way she’s one of us, she’s too much like them.” She said in a disgusted tone and looked at Maggie pointedly as if she couldn’t hear anything.
“Uh, you know I’m in the room right?” She questioned, wondering if they truly had forgotten.
“Well duh, I did tie you up for a reason.” She answered in a snobby tone and Alex sent her a look.
“Oh yeah? And why’s that?” She questioned, slightly defiant.
“Yeah. To torture you.” She ended with a mocking grin on her face.
Maggie shivered but Alex however just rolled his eyes at Jessica. He then looked at Maggie.
“Ignore her; she’s acting idiotically, nothing unusual there.” Jessica stared at him.
“Wow, big words for a small boy.” She teased and Will just sighed loud and harsh before stalking out, as if he anticipated the next course of action. Alex and Jessica just stared at him before continuing their bickering.
So he did know- maybe sighing frustrated works here in this strange place. Maggie sighed loud and harsh, maybe a little harder than ‘Will’ did.
“Yes?” Jessica asked, glaring at her.
“You think I could make an exit like that? He’s very dramatic, but I could be better.” Maggie sassily said back and Alex shook his head before walking forward, slowly and measuredly just to annoy her. He then knelt down right in front of her and whispered, making a chill shoot down her spine.
“Well, you try that and see what happens. Though I wouldn’t personally, but I have known slightly crazy people; I live with one.” He said pointedly and then looked at Jessica who just rolled her eyes and stalked out.
“Seriously, ignore her.” He said, just brushing it off as if it was a daily occurrence; maybe it was.
“Well, can you let me go then?” Maggie asked with a slight quaver in her voice.
“What fun would that be?” He asked grinning before standing up with ease and walking away, leaving her alone down in the basement.
Alex headed up the stairs, his head still caught in the thoughts of that girl tied downstairs. There was something about her that put him off just a little, it was only slight, but it was there. He shook his head; he wouldn’t let a girl get in the way of his ‘job’.
He walked over to Will and Jess who were trying to drink the soup but ended up just spitting it out.
“God, I’m worse than I thought.” Jess said, shaking her head and scrunching her nose up in disgust.
“Finally! You admit it after years and years of torture! Jesus Jess- took you long enough!” Will exclaimed and he was practically shot on the spot from Jess’s eyes.
“Shut up the both of you.” Alex said, effectively shutting them up, just like he wanted.
“Jeez, what crawled up your ass this morning?” Jess muttered and Will shot me a look, I’m pretty sure he knew.
“You.” Alex muttered under his breath.
“What was that?” She hissed and he ducked his head.
“I said: why is she down there?” He said, trying to cover.
“Nice try jackass, and because she was caught prowling around the bloody house. Besides, you didn’t see what she did, so Will, you get to shoot her again.” She said and Will smiled and laughed sarcastically.
“Been waiting all my life.” He answered sarcastically and received a smack in the head.
“No, don’t shoot her.” Alex said thoughtfully and Jess gaped at him. Will too looked at him in shock, did he hit his head?
“Where the hell is Alex and who are you?!” She exclaimed and he shot her a look.
“I’m serious! You love shooting and killing stuff! You’d never miss out on the opportunity!” She exclaimed yet again and he smirked at her, completely amused.
“Let’s just…talk…” He trailed off and Will smirked while Jess sighed and banged her head on the table.
They headed down the stairs and approached the sleeping girl. Jess banged her rope on the pole and she woke with a start. He realized he didn’t even know her name.
“What’s your name?” He asked her softly and she glared at him.
“Maggie. Now what do you want?” She said sharply and he inhaled quickly, almost choking. Jess stared at him while he collected his breathing and chose a way to respond.
“For you to tell us everything you know.” He said, trying to make it sound simple but so the point is clearly across.
“Uh, so what about exactly?” She questioned, her eyebrows shooting up to her hairline.
Jess sighed exasperatedly and looked like she needed a drink, a real one.
“Are you dumb, stupid or both? You!? Why did that happen and now you’re fine. Cause that’s what we do, and you don’t look like us.” But Alex asked her to cut off.
“No Maggie, just tell us about you. I see us in her.” He said, putting emphasis on the ‘us’ and adding a slight hint of frustration.
“Well, I’m Maggie Bay-” But was cut off by Alex. “Is that your full name, Maggie?” He asked and she shook her head, slightly hesitating.
“Um, it’s Magdalene Bay and I’m 16 years old. My parents’ names were Daniel Bay and Laken Bay or Grey-” GREY!” Alex shouted out, startling everyone.
“Uh, yeah…” She trailed off and shooting him a puzzled look, but so was Jess and Will.
“Do you remember any memories from before you turned 6?” He asked urgently and Jess and Will just stared at him.
“No, my head hurts whenever I try. I can’t even remember my own parents, it’s annoying as hell. Wait a second... why?” She asks, her forehead scrunching up in pain as she tried to recall something.
“I think I know who you are. And what you are.”
Wow, thanks. Maggie thought, nice to know you think I’m inhuman.
“Well then, what am I?” She asked and Alex just smirked before stalking out.
A lot of help he was.
