"You wanted to see me Mrs. Flowers?" I said nervously. Mrs. Flowers is the oldest counselor in the school and she acts pretty young for her age. She's so kind to everyone at North Central. Too bad it's her last day here before summer starts.
"Yes Diana, I called you down here to talk about a summer program opportunity with you."
"A summer program?" I asked with a puzzled look on my face.
"Well, your parents have talked to me about it and they wanted to know if you're interested." Typical. I knew my parents wanted me out of the house for the summer. Now that I'm 15, they think I should learn about independence, so I could live on my own. Don't get me wrong, I'm not that dependent on my parents, but I guess they feel it's important seeing I don't have other siblings..."Diana, how about that answer dear? Please."
Oh crap. I didn't realize I didn't respond to her question. "Uh-I am definitely interested. What's the program about?"
"Basically, you live with a family abroad so you can learn about independence. You get to pick any region of a selected country."
I was surprised. Better yet, I was excited! "That sounds awesome! What country is available this year?" I was finally going to go outside the US for the first time.
"This year the country selected is England. What region do you want to go to?" I have no idea how to choose because to be honest, I'm not that good at World Geography.
"Well, what do you recommend Mrs. Flowers?"
"How about Cheshire? It's quite a wonderful place and I've been there myself while visiting Manchester. What do you say?"
Wow. Cheshire. This is totally happening. "Absolutely! Where exactly in Cheshire?"
"There's a family in Holmes Chapel that's available. The Styles family." I obviously accepted and Mrs. Flowers went on the program's website to fill out info and pick a day for the flight.
"Looks like I'll take June 11th Mrs. F." I want to go on this trip as soon as possible because it means I spend the rest of my summer at home.
"Excellent Diana. I'll just click accept and they should notify the family about the date." After that I left the Guidance office and then...DIIINNGGG!!!
The bell rang. Good thing it was lunch time. I headed to the cafeteria and found Chelsea and Sarah. Chelsea is literally a day older than me with dark skin, black hair and dark brown eyes. We’re about the same height. She loves to read, so much that she reads books over and over again. I love reading too, but she reads faster than I can. Sarah is a year younger than Chelsea and I. She’s our height with a thin body, light brown hair, pale skin and green eyes. She has that kind of go with the flow attitude. She’s nice, kind and accepts others for who they are. That’s why the 3 of us are the best of friends.
“Hey guys what’s up?” I said as I set down my lunch and grab a chair.
“Diana where were you?! We were worried you ditched Psychology! D-Did you?!” Sarah said in a panic.
“No I just was called down to the Guidance office…” I was surprised they were this worried.
“What for Diana?” Chelsea asked.
“Well, here goes nothing…”
As we ate lunch I told them everything that happened. “Whoa. I can’t believe your parents want to get rid of you for the summer.”
“It’s not that bad Chelsea. Besides, they do need a break for all the hard work they've done raising-”
“THAT’S TOTALLY UNFAIR!” Sarah interrupted.
“Ah come on Sarah. I think you’re overreacting.”
“Yeah and besides, after 6 weeks, we’ll be able to do everything together.”
“SIX WEEKS!? You better make sure to tell us all about it!”
“Come on Sarah! Of course Diana will tell us about the trip. She’s not moving to the UK!”
“Okay I feel better now…”
“Well that’s good; you really need to stop-”
Suddenly I stop talking and sat absolutely still. Oh no, not again. Both Chelsea and Sarah knew what happens. I get my visions...This may sound weird but I do. In fact, they have been occurring for as long as I can remember. It shows me a glimpse of the future because I saw images of my best friends before I met them. They sometimes can occur in my dreams. This time, I was in front of a door, and it opened after I knocked. And there was a family greeting me… A woman who looked young but was in her 40’s, a girl in her 20’s and something stuck out the most. There was a guy, my height and looks like my age, brown curly hair and beautiful blue green eyes. He was smiling with very big dimples. I was attracted to him even though I didn’t know his name. Then he started saying my name, “Diana. Diana.” It sounded a lot like Chelsea. Oh wait…
“Diana!” I woke up from the state I was in to see my two best friends crying my name.
“Oh that’s a relief!” Chelsea cried out, “I thought we had to take you to the nurse again.”
“That must have been a wild vision. What did you see Diana?”
“Well, Sarah I saw-” DDIIIIINNNNGG!!!
“Looks like the bell rang. I have to get to History class. Apparently I have summer homework since I have Advanced World History. We should talk about this after school at Diana’s place. See ya!” And with that, Chelsea left for History class and Sarah and I headed to Art. Wow. What a day…
The rest of the day was hopeless. I kept thinking of him. He was so perfect, so gorgeous, I wanted him to myself. Even though I didn’t know who he was…*sigh* ...“Okay class time to take out your sketch books and finish your last sketch of the year you’ll be graded on. You have the rest of the hour to work on it.” Oh crap I forgot about it! But then I had an idea. I knew what I had to do. I quickly sketched my masterpiece and finished 5 minutes before Mrs. Maddene came around to see what we sketched.
“Hey Sarah, what did you sketch?” “Oh I didn't know what to draw so I made a collage of Alice in Wonderland.”
“That’s awesome! I liked how Alice is throwing cards at the Mad Hatter’s hat.”
Sarah has that look on her face that means she knows I'm hiding something. Got to distract her. “Hey Diana, I was wondering…”
“In Wonderland?” I couldn't help but let out a small chuckle.
“Hah...No. I meant what happened in that vision of yours?”
“You know I can’t tell you. It can cause bad luck if I do.”
“Is it about that family you’re going to stay with this summer?”
Impressively, Sarah can read me better than Chelsea can. And I thought Chelsea was better at reading…“Now that you mention it…Yes, I think that’s what I saw. There’s was a woman, an older woman, this guy…”
“Whoa. Whoa. Whoa. Hold the phone. Who’s this guy you speak of?”
“I’ve never met him before…but I think…I think…”
“You think what?” Sarah said impatiently. Before I could say a word, I quickly asked Mrs. M. if I could go to the bathroom. Gosh, I panicked and no, I didn’t go because I have a small bladder. Well I still had to go..
Well, as soon as Diana ran for the bathroom, Mrs. Maddene came to our table and check our Sketches. “Very good, Sarah. I love what you did with- Is that Diana’s sketch?! It’s Magnificent!” After judgment, she leaves to check others. Diana still isn't back yet so, I guess I’ll check out the sketch. NO WAY! IT’S SO DETAILED! HE'S BEAUTIFUL! IT’S THE GUY! I think…
I came back to a surprised Sarah and my sketch book in her hands. “So, you decided to look at it…”
“Well yeah! After Mrs. M left our table she was so surprised of your work. Now, for a very important question…”
“Hit me…” I said knowing what she wants to know.
“Are you in love with this guy?” She says as she points to my sketch. It was perfect even down to his curly hair and the detail in his eyes…Wait…WHAT DID SHE SAY?!
