Classes have been going on a week now, and I still haven't gotten used to them. We have a four-house combined potions lesson today, kind of just to see where everyone is. We're on our way there now, and one of my Hufflepuff friends, Phillip, is jabbering to me constantly.
"Have you seen that redheaded Gryffindor? She punched a kid yesterday." I know, Phillip, I think, but don't say it. "Have to say, though, he totally deserved it. It was a Slytherin, that creepy weasel one, and he was calling that Gryffindor with two names a Mudblood, so Redhead beat 'im up."
We finally enter the potions classroom and I break away from Phillip, making a beeline to where Jack, Rapunzel, and Merida are already sitting at a table together.
"Hey," I say, sliding into the chair between Merida and Rapunzel. Jack is laughing and fistbumping Merida.
"Dude, it is so stinking awesome that you beat up Reginald. He totally deserved it," Jack says.
Merida scowls. "Yeah, he did, he was calling V.J. a Mudblood. So not cool. Hey, Hiccup!" She says, grinning. My heart speeds up. "How ya doing?"
Before I can answer, Professor Zumbro, the Potions teacher, strides into the room. "Good afternoon, first years!" he calls happily. "Now, can anyone give me a phrase that describes your classmates?" Rapunzel's hand shoots into the air. "Yes, Miss Gothel?"
"Idiots, but lovable ones," she says. "Especially Jack, Merida, and Hiccup." We all laugh, even Zumbro.
"Wonderful, wonderful," he sighs. "Well, today we are going to brew the cure for boils. Can anyone tell me what the cure for boils does?" Jack, attempting to prove that he is not an idiot (even a lovable one) raises his hand. "Yes, Mr. Overland?"
"Gives you boils?" he guesses. I drop my face into my palm as the rest of the class roars with laughter.
Above the noise, Rapunzel's voice rings out. "Like I said: idiots, but lovable ones."
