Riley and Niall had gone a while ago so I was sitting home alone, watching TV. I watched the clock and decided it was time to start cooking dinner so I got up and made my way towards the kitchen. All of the sudden the door bell rang, making me jump. I was halfway to the kitchen already so I reached the front door quickly and opened it, wondering who was coming around at this time of the evening.
To my surprise, Zayn was standing in the corridor. An awkward smile appeared on his face as soon as our eyes met.
"Zayn? What are you doing here? Come on in!" I exclaimed in a surprised tone. He nodded and walked into the hall, pushing himself aside so I could close the door.
"Niall's not here anymore if you're looking for him."
Zayn shook his head, "I'm not looking for Niall. I know he's on a date with Riley."
I raised an eyebrow as he stopped talking. What was he doing here then? I was about to ask him but he talked before I could question."I came to see you." He smiled shyly.
"Thank you! That's very nice!" I exclaimed loudly, smiling widely as it wasn't what I expected. "I was about to cook dinner. Want to join in?" I asked him.
"I'd love to!" he answered happily straight away. I couldn't help but stare shocked at him. I thought he would go back to his usual mood: never smiling and avoiding me. But I was wrong.
"Is something wrong?"
His voice got me out of my thoughts and I shook my head, stuttering quickly, "No! It's just... I was wondering.. " I had to find something to say.
"You were wondering? " he repeated.
"I was wondering what you'd like to eat!" I said abruptly and he smiled. I felt relieved straight away, glad to have found something to say.
"It doesn't matter. Cook whatever you want!"
I nodded and told and simply, "let's have pasta then. I think I'll be able to cook that!"
I led him into the kitchen and I heard his voice ask behind me, "you remember how to cook?" He sounded slightly amused.
I shrugged my shoulders. "Riley showed me a few things but I don't really remember myself cooking before... Do you know if I was good at cooking?"
He suddenly burst out laughing and I just stood in the kitchen staring agape at him. Though it was the first I heard him laugh, his laughter sounded familiar to me. And why was he laughing? I asked him and it made him stop straight away. He scratched the back of his head and whispered after a while, "Riley used to tell us you were the worst cook ever."
I opened my mouth to speak but no words came out; I didn't know how to answer...
But he carried on quickly, as if to make me forget what he just told me, "but I'm sure you can cook very well now!" He tried to convince himself by saying that because it was obvious all he wanted to do was to burst out laughing again.
"Let's give it a try!" I shrugged my shoulders and started to cook. Zayn sat down on a chair and watched me all along without talking. It was quite awkward but I made it as if I didn't notice a thing.
After what seemed to be hours, the dinner finally was ready but I started thinking Zayn had been right because it wasn't looking that good at all. Zayn was staring at the plate in front of him with a strange look on his face but smiled at me widely when he noticed I was watching him.
"I'm sure it tastes very good!"
He took his fork and scooped up some pasta. I did the same but I had to make a huge effort to swallow. I didn't know it was possible to make pasta taste that bad! I looked up at Zayn who had almost turned green.
"I think we better order something," I whispered, slightly ashamed. He chuckled. "I swear I didn't mean to poison you!" I exclaimed hastily and he burst out laughing.
"Don't worry. I know you wouldn't poison me! You tried lots of time to cook for me before when we, we..." but he stopped straight away and the look on his face changed at once.
"When we what?" I muttered, trying to look at him in the eyes but he avoided my gaze. "Why didn't you finish your sentence?" I asked him a little bit sharply.
"It's... Nothing! I was about to talk complete nonsense" he replied dryly. But I shook my head.
"No, you're lying! You are hiding something!" I exclaimed with anger. I didn't really know why I was feeling angry. I just felt like there was something wrong since the beginning of us two meeting. There must be a reason why he was so distant to me. There was something that happened but I didn't remember and I need to know what it was.
Zayn looked down at his hands and stood up suddenly, muttering, "I think I better leave. Thanks, Lia." He left the room and made his way to the hall quickly. Maybe, I should have stood up and followed him. I wanted to know what he was hiding; I needed to know, but I still didn't run after him.
However, I didn't hear the door closing though it was obvious he had reached the front door. I got up and rushed into the hall where I saw Zayn standing.
The door was wide open and he was standing in front of it. But hadn't gone out yet because there was someone else standing on the other side of the door, in the corridor.
I moved closer and exclaimed with surprise, "Harry?!"
