I couldn't breath for a second. I couldn't comprehend the letter. He loved me! He'd never actually said it but here was the proof right in front of my eyes. I should have been so happy but I wasn't. All I could think of was the fact that he said 'goodbye.'
"No Liam" I breathed under my breath. He couldn't mean it, I didn't want it to be true. He wasn't running away, was he?
I shot up from my position, salty tears splashing as I rushed to his room and banged open the door.
"Liam" I called sceptically but I knew he wasn't there. "No" I moaned as I looked towards the wardrobe, hangers bare of clothes, a t-shirt and some jeans dropped as though they'd been take in a rush and left behind accidently.
I couldn't move, staring at the empty room. NO! This couldn't be happening? This couldn't be real, but then I quickly hit myself round the face. This was real.
"Harry" I screamed, running from the room holding the letter tightly in my hand, squishing it as though by doing that it would bring Liam back. "Harry" I yelled again and soon I heard someone running.
Harry emerged followed by Niall, Zayn and Louis who were all looking panicked. When Harry caught sight of me his face was suddenly hysterical.
"What's wrong? Annie, what is it?" he asked desperately running to me trying to comfort me.
I pushed his arms away trying to force tears away. "It's L-Liam, he's run a-away."
"Run away, what? Annie, what?" Harry blinked at me looking shocked and disbelieving.
"It's a-all my fault Harry" I whimpered. "Please, we have to go after h-him." I tugged on his arm pulling him towards the stairs.
"What? Just stop a second-" he started trying to reply.
I cut across him. "Come on! We need to get him. Please Harry."
"But Annie, just wait, are you serious?" he questioned still resisting me trying to get him moving.
"She's serious" Zayn replied and I looked round at him standing in the doorway of Liam's room. "His stuff has all gone."
Harry's eyes went wide in shock. "Okay, I, er..." he trailed off.
"We need to go after him" I yelled at him, panicked, scared, angry and upset all at the same time.
Harry took one look at me before nodding. "Just calm down Annie, it's okay, we can find him. It's fine."
"No it is not fine" I screamed.
He looked taken aback.
"This is all my f*****g fault!" I shouted.
"Whoa, she must be serious. She swore" Louis chipped in sounding amused.
"Shut up Lou, I don't think this is the time" Harry snapped at him.
"Sorry mate" Louis apologized and then followed as Harry followed me down the stairs at a quick pace.
The others came running after as I headed to the front door, pulling on my shoes as quickly as possible nearly falling over in the process.
"It's okay Annie. This isn't your fault" Harry told me as I pulled open the door dragging him out.
"Yes it is" I told him, starting to run towards to where the cars were. "Hurry up."
"Okay, okay, I'm not going to argue" Harry replied, sighing and getting into one of the open top convertibles. I buckled myself into the seat next to him as the others filed into the back and he started up the engine.
"Any idea where's he gone?" Harry questioned.
"I don't know" I replied back quickly and bitterly. "Just go!"
"Okay, keep calm, I'm going" he replied and he pulled away heading back along the sandy track away from the house.
"He's not answering his phone" Niall told us worried and I turned round in my seat to see him looking scared his phone pressed to his ear.
I bit my lip, more tears emerging in my eyes.
"I'm such an idiot!" I exclaimed suddenly aggravated with myself. This was all my fault. If I hadn't shouted at him, if I hadn't made him annoyed and if I hadn't been so scared at breaking rules none of this would have happened at all.
"No, you're not an idiot" Harry told me.
"Yes I am" I yelled back, firing up and nearly feeling like tearing my hair out.
"No you're not."
"Yes I am."
"Guys!" Zayn called stopping our argument and I turned to see him pointing to the side of the road where a car was pulled up at a layby.
"Is that him?" I asked frantically, having to stop myself from jumping out of the moving car to run to him.
"I think so" Louis replied and as Harry slowed down I could see Liam sitting in the car. Defiantly him.
As soon as the wheels had stopped moving, I ripped off my seat belt, not even bothering with opening the door, jumping over it and running full pelt towards Liam.
"LIAM" I screamed, tears gushing down my face.
Liam jumped at the noise before hurriedly opening the door and getting out. He watched me as I ran towards him. "Annie..." he started looking like he was going to stop me saying or doing anything.
"I LOVE YOU!" I shrieked at him before he could stop me and I launched myself on him, hugging him tight.
He seemed astounded at first before I heard him laugh deeply and squeeze me tightly back. "I love you to!"
"I'm sorry... Don't go... please..." I moaned into his t-shirt crying hard.
He didn't say anything in reply just hugged me back.
"Er, well, anyone care to explain?" said an awkward voice behind me and only then did I remember the others.
It was Louis who had spoken looking at us with a curious expression but still with a smirk on his face. Neither me nor Liam said anything and I was more concerned with the look on Harry's face to be honest. He was frozen, staring at us, anger obvious in his face but also shock.
"I..." I tried to say something but got stuck with words not knowing what to say.
"Save it" Harry snapped and then headed back towards the car. "House now!"
"But..." I tried to reply.
"Now!" he yelled and he shot everyone a fierce look. "All of you!" He particularly looked at Liam.
"It's okay" Liam told me softly. "I'll come back to the house, for now."
I nodded, hugging him tightly before reluctantly retreating from his arms. "Promise?"
I walked back to the car checking continuously over my shoulder that Liam was following us as we turned round and started heading back towards the house. Everyone was quiet, looking awkward, Harry angry, his hands clamped on the steering wheel.
"Harry..." I tried to say something to him, anything.
"Don't" he snapped which made me shut up.
It didn't take long to get back to the house. Everyone was silent, I didn't dare say anything as Harry parked the car and we all got out. Liam parked up behind us, getting out slowly of the car and approaching us as we headed to the front door. I shared a glance with him and he mouthed to me "it's going to be okay."
I tried to believe him but it was hard to. We got into the house and I stopped watching as Harry walked up of the same. I wanted to call his name but didn't dare to just watched him.
"Harry" Louis was the brave one to call out to him.
Harry stopped, then said moodily loud and clear "don't talk to me, any of you." And then he continued on his way up the stairs and out of sight leaving the rest of us standing in the hall awkwardly in silence.
I really wanted to cry right now, but didn't. I pulled off my shoes annoyed and then started to hurry off up the stairs.
"Annie" Liam called, and I heard him running after me.
I stopped, turned and Liam stopped too a couple of steps down.
I looked round at all of them looking concerned but still confused, apart from Liam.
"I'm sorry, I just don't want to talk right now. Just leave me alone, all of you" I muttered to all of them and then before anyone could stop me I ran off up the stairs, running to my bedroom and slamming the door behind me.
Why did things always have to go wrong? Why?
