Now that I think about it, my room was only burning; the coincidental meetings and how Casper raised his hand which lowered the fire until it had miraculously subsided was nothing that a human is capable of. But how could these four men looking down on me be demons? They sure didn't look like demons. I have watched far too many horror films to know that demons are not all good looking humans with beautiful smiles and with the laugh of an angelic bells ringing.
"Ah-hem," Casper catches my attention and I stare at him with slits.
"Sorry to interrupt your thoughts but do you believe us now? I haven't seemed to get an answer out of you," he chuckles and it makes me shudder that underneath all that kindness is a nasty being.
"...Was I the only one who was scheduled to die?" I politely question.
"You can't change destiny. We don't have the power to alter people's lifespans," Mitchell gives me a warm smile and I can't help but feel very uncomfortable. Do all demons act so nice before killing people?
"We made you happy today, aren't you satisfied?" Henry adds and my eyes widen. The boss' hot son, the cake, the date, and the really expensive Prada shoes, all of it was fake!
"Let's get this over with, stay still," Casper reaches for my hand and I stand up with my hands in front of me barely as defense. Damn it! At times like this I wish I had taken those damn karate lessons.
"Feisty little one aren't you?" Henry's hand reaches for my other arm and I shriek in panic.
"W-wait! 31 days. Please. Just give me 31 days!" my heart hammers loudly in my chest and I can't think due to the forceful hands grabbing me on my arms. Silence immediately cuts through the conversation and I struggle to escape their grasp. "There are some things I still want to take care of. If you can just give me 31 days, I'll do whatever you want!" I am finally released from their grip and my lips let out a sigh of relief.
"Sorry, no can do," Casper tugs at his tie and I can tell it's chaffing him.
"Wh-what?!" Even though my words focus on Casper, my sight is on Flynn. He is so distracted in his own thoughts, it is as if he isn't paying any attention at all.
"Aw. C'mon, it couldn't hurt. Right?" Mitchell puts his hand on Casper's shoulder and I dart my eyes from Casper to Mitchell. You go Mitchell! My mind mentally cheers him on. "I mean, no offense but her time and cause of death has already changed. The angels are going to file a claim over this anyway..." his words begin to fade as Casper turns around and looks at Mitchell sternly.
"If we finish it now. No one will have to know about our mistake..I don't want to do this. But..." Casper turns back to face me and my lips gape; I'm trying to speak but not a single word is let lose. His hands reach for me for the third time and I squirm in his touch. "Don't struggle. I'm going to take you to heaven," Casper smirks evilly.
"N-no! Stop! Somebody help me!" I scream at the top of my lungs until I'm unable to catch my breath.
"They won't see us. We set up a barrier so no humans can see us."
"No...." my eyes clench tightly and I wait for the pain to devourer my whole body.
"Sorry. It's sad to have to turn a pretty little thing like you into toast," Henry pats my head trying to soothe me somehow. "But you don't have to be sad! The angels resurrect all the souls we collect into new bodies. It's the circle of life," Oh gee. My death sure is taking a long time.
"...That doesn't really seem to make me feel better," I mumble and Casper cusses at me for talking back. Anger washes over me like a wave and I grit my teeth as I try to contain it.
"Get it over and done with! We're getting more off schedule by the second!" Henry shouts making us all startled.
"Hey! Wasn't it your dog which caused all this?" Casper fights back and I roll my eyes. I thought I was a victim of being killed not a victim of watching them fight over a dog.
"He's right. If it wasn't for your dumb dog Henry, we wouldn't be in this stupid mess!" After silencing himself for a long period of time, Flynn finally speaks as cold as ice.
"Hush! Keep your voices down. The angels might hear us," Mitchell gestures his hand towards the sky and they all nod; agreeing. Wait, so if the angels can hear us then....
"So you're saying I didn't die because of a mistake?" a grin spreads on my face and I have just the plan.
"Yeah. This has never happened before. Henry's dog messed it all up at the end," Casper ruffles his dark chocolate hair in exasperation. "Why are you asking anywa-" his eyes widen and the smirk on my face grows wider.
"ANGELS!" I let out a loud curdling scream and they all look at me blankly. Their expressions are rapidly changing, all their eyes towards me and all their knuckles turning white.
"What do you think you-"
He was quickly cut off by my strange sudden action of bravery. "I thought that the angels might still be able to hear us inside the barrier," my mouth quivered but I kept my position.
"H-how did you know that?" Henry and Mitchell spoke in unison. Ha! Look who's stuttering now. "Shoot, maybe she figured it out from what we said, wait scratch that. What he said," Henry pointed his index finger at Casper.
"ANGELS, CAN YOU HEAR ME?!" I was screaming at the top of my lungs.
"Hey! Cut it out," Casper hisses and I'm seriously not afraid to scream louder than before.
"You sure are testing me Casper! You're motivating me to scream louder. ANG- mmph!" he quickly puts his hand on my mouth and muffles all my screaming.
"Are you trying to threaten us?" I simply nod at his question.
"She's got guts. Even if we give you 31 days that won't change the fact that you're toast," Flynn crosses his arms and looks down at his feet; not having any eye contact at all. My head quickly nods vigorously and I force my mouth to speak underneath Casper's hand.
"31 days is enough! I still have some things to take care of."
"Why don't we just give her 31 days Casper? She said she'd do whatever we say after all," so far I can tell that Mitchell is the nicest one out of them all.
"There's no way we can hide her for 31 days!" Casper's voice raises and Mitchell flinches slightly.
"But..." he bites his lip gently and looks up at Casper with plead in his eyes.
"Oh god, not this again!" he rolls his eyes.
"...Fine! I'll give you only 31 days!" Casper declares and Mitchell and I look up at him with glee.
"Thank you so much!" my body is ignited with happiness and I can't help but jump with joy.
"Just don't yell for the angels again. I hate them. The last thing I want right now is a lecture from them. Plus..." his fingers caress my jaw and I bite the insides of my cheek in desperation to get him away from me. "A woman who makes a deal with the devil, for a human that's pretty interesting," he adds.
"If Casper says it's alright then I agree although this is your responsibility. We can't have you wondering around. You're suppose to be dead. One of us will have to keep an eye on you for the next 31 days. We'll be watching you 24 hours...A day," Mitchell slowly explains.
"That also includes sleeping and showering," Henry winks at me and I can't help but feel disgusted by their perverted ways.
"A-are you serious?!" I manage to say.
"Lay off. Henry. Anyway enough messing around. Pick who you want to watch over you." My head looks up to see three men looking at me with seducing smiles. Only it is Flynn; he just stands there still paying his attention to the starry night sky.
