18. Over Again
"What?" I was disappointed. And I was mad.
"My hotel room has only been booked till yesterday. I have to check out this morning. My gig ended a few days ago and they gave me some time to spare. But now I have to go home and wait for my agent to tell me if there are any new gigs I can take on."
"And you wait till now to tell me? So,last night, what was all of that for? You had me fooled. I thought that for a second, maybe you were starting to remember...what we had...what...it was like. And that you actually wanted to remember. You wanted us. You wanted...me. But I see now, that all of that was shit."
"Don't say that. I don't have a choice!" she pleaded. It hurt to see her like this, with tears in her eyes but I didn't know what else to say.
"Yes you do. Just like yesterday, you had the choice to stay in your own hotel room. But instead you chose to come over here and screw everything up."
She sniffled. "I didn't mean to."
"Well, that's what happened. And now,it's all over again. What do you want?" I asked.
"I don't know what I want! I don't know what you want me to say!" she yelled.
"You don't have to say anything," I muttered, grabbing my car keys and my phone. " Do what you want. I have to go."
With one foot out the door, I hesitated. I didn't look at her because I couldn't.
"Lock the door when you leave."
