I dragged myself out of the meeting, feeling more tired than ever.
"Mate, you alright? You seem to be a little out of it during the meeting," Liam inquired, casually placing an arm around my shoulders.
"Yeah,Nialler, you're not yourself. What's happened?" Zayn jogged to catch up to Liam and I and ruffled my hair.
"Leaving? To where?"
I barely glanced at Zayn. "Home. In America."
"She doesn't have a reason to be here anymore. Her 'gig' is done so she's going back to wait for her agent to call about any new jobs she can take."
"Well, what the hell are you still here for? Shouldn't you be chasing her, rushing to the airport to catch her before she takes off, like a hopeless romantic?" Zayn said,light-heartedly.
"I've changed my mind. I don't want to chase after her anymore. I don't want to try anymore."
Liam and Zayn went quiet. It was Louis, who I hadn't realised had been listening who said something.
"I'm done," I said louder, frustrated. "Every time I think I'm getting closer to get her back, something changes that moves her away from me. I'm exhausted. I give up."
"Niall, what's gotten into you? You NEVER give up. Even when she didn't want to date you the first time, you persisted. And you got her. You can't start now. She may not be who she was before, but some piece of her wants to be with you. Or she wouldn't have wanted to be with you at all."
"Do you love her?" Harry asked, joining in.
"I always have," I answered,truthfully.
"Then stop being such a soppy lad and go chase after her," Harry encouraged, giving a hard slap on my back.
We all had stopped walking and were in the carpark.
"What,do you need a formal invitation? We could follow you if you want."
Without another word, I ran to my car, dialing her number with my free hand.
"Come on,pick up. Pick up," I prayed, turning on the ignition. "Damn it," I spitted through my teeth, chucking my phone on the passenger seat as I slammed down on the accelerator.
The airport was at least half an hour away and that estimation didn't include traffic.
By the time I got there,my heart was in my throat. I parked carelessly and jumped out of the car, pressing a button to lock it and sprinted into the airport and to the departure hall. I focused on the board which showed arrivals and departures.
That's the time of flight.
Was it delayed?
My heart sunk.
It took a lot out of me to pull myself to a bench and slumped down on it,putting my head between my legs.
There was no use wasting any more time here.
With a heavy heart, I trudged my way back to the car, pulling my cap low, careful to keep my eyes down. There were a few double-takes which made me speed up although it was hard to focus on not getting spotted.
I guess I wasn't enough to change her mind.
I blinked my eyes multiple times before driving away. I needed a few bottles of beer in me to feel better.
The journey home was a blur. I barely noticed the incessant buzzing of my phone on the passenger seat.
Unlock the door.
Lock the door.
Put on the latch.
"Uh...hey,"a distinctly familiar voice called out. "You gave me a key so I let myself in."
"Jamie," I asked, the question coming out as a sigh of relief.
Her smile was as sweet as it ever was. "I changed my mind. I wanna be here. I wanna be with you."
