"Ok I got the diaper bag, my phone, and Taylor. Anything else?" Liam was looking around the house frantically. He's never brought Taylor to anything by himself. I could almost feel his nervousness.
"You're gonna be okay Liam. It's just a doctor's appointment." I started to walk Liam out the door when I remembered what happened with my mom. "Shoot.."
"What? What's wrong?" Liam stopped in his tracks.
"Nothing, I just remembered that we need to get a...uh...nanny?"
"What do you mean we need a nanny? We have your mom."
"No she actually doesn't want to watch Taylor anymore. She said she wanted her diaper changing days to be over."
"That's ridiculous! So now we have to pay a ton of money to have our child watched just because your mom is too lazy to watch her?"
"Too lazy?! You shouldn't be talking about laziness."
"Whatever. We're gonna be late. If I see a daycare place on the way to the doctor's office, I'll stop and take a look. Love you." Liam kissed my head and walked out the front door. I walked back into the bedroom to get ready for work. Work is my life lately. It seems like that's all I do is work.
I plugged my phone into my speakers and put Lana Del Rey's "Born to Die" on. I don't know why but music always make things more enjoyable. Once I was ready to go, I grabbed my purse and started walking to work. It might not be a very exciting walk, but it's better than hitting people with my car.
About 20 minutes later, I walked into Papa John's, trying to fake a smile. "Hey Kenzie! How are you?"
"Fine. Can you go get me some more boxes? We're super busy today."
"Um sure." I set my stuff down in its usual place. Under the counter behind the bag of flour. I feel safer when my stuff is hidden for some reason. I went to the back room and got a whole stack of pizza boxes for Kenzie. I don't know what her problem is today, but I definitely don't want to make it worse. So it's better to just do what she says and shut up.
I walked back to where Kenzie was and handed her the boxes. "Is this enough?"
"Yeah I guess it'll do." She kept folding boxes, not even telling me thank you.
I just nodded to myself and went to my station. I have the great job of making the dough for the pizza. I'm being sarcastic by the way. Making the dough is the worst job in the whole restaurant. No one even talks to me because I'm all the way in the back of the kitchen. I only have two friends in the whole restaurant. Kenzie and Alex. Alex and I met on my first day at work. She showed me the whole restaurant, and helped me out a lot. I don't get to see her much though since she works up at the register. But since there's not many people here today, I guess I could go up there for a few minutes to have a quick chat.
"Hey Alex! Business is pretty slow today huh?"
"Hey Nikki! You're right. We've only had about 10 customers all day!" Alex laughed and reached down in her pocket to grab her phone. "Hold on a sec I'm getting a call."
I stood next to Alex uncomfortably. It's always awkward when someone's on the phone in front of you.
"Totally! I can start tomorrow!" Alex hung up her phone and turned back to me. "Well I guess this is my last day here!"
"Some guy saw my ad in the newspaper and offered my a job!"
"Oh I'm trying to be a nanny. I love little kids, and the job I just got pays just as much as this job does!"
"Wait a second- what's the man's name?"
"Um.." She looked back down at her phone. "Liam Payne?"
"No way! That's my fiancé! Do you know what this means? You're gonna be my baby's nanny!"
"You're engaged? With a child? Aren't you like 17?"
"Yeah it's a long story. And aren't you my age too?"
"Not exactly. I'm 23."
"Oh. Okay well I'm just glad someone I know is gonna be watching Taylor instead of some wierdo."
"Haha. I understand. Oh we have a customer! I'll see you early tomorrow morning!"
"Okay!" I went back to my station. I don't know why, but for some reason the fact that Alex is gonna be Taylor's nanny is bothering me. I like her and everything, I just...I don't know.
The rest of the work day went by pretty fast. By the time I got home, Liam and Taylor were already taking naps. "Liam?"
He flinched and jumped awake. "What?"
"The nanny you hired, she's my co-worker."
"Cool. Is that a good or bad thing?"
"Good. I think."
"Great. Can I go back to sleep?"
"Sure." I put my stuff up and changed into my regular clothes. While I'm comfortable I might as well take a nap too. I couldn't focus on sleeping though. I kept thinking about the fact the Alex will be in my house tomorrow. She's so pretty and so close to Liam's age...never mind. He loves me. He said so himself. I have absolutely nothing to worry about.
