"Nikki you look fine let's go!" Liam tugged on my arm as I finished straightening my hair.
"Liam why are you in such a rush? You know we still have to go drop Taylor off at my mom's anyway."
"I just want to get it over with. And I'll take Taylor. You stay here and finish getting ready. When I come back, be ready to leave." Liam kissed my forehead and sped into the nursery to get Taylor. I'm not sure why he wants to go so badly. You would think that he wouldn't want to see Harry, considering what happened. But it's the exact opposite. Going to this court session has been all Liam's been talking about. Maybe he just wants to rat Harry out already? I'm putting too much thought into this.
I unplugged my straightener and grabbed my purse. Finished. Now I have to wait for Liam. His bright idea is gonna end up making us late. I went in the living room and turned on the TV. Nothing good to see anymore on television. Whatever happened to shows like "I love Lucy"? Now that's good TV right there. The most interesting thing that still comes on is the news. I flipped to channel 4.
"Today's the day folks. Harry Styles is finally going to court. And what makes this so special you might ask? Well in case you don't know, this man shot his ex-girlfriend's current boyfriend for no reason. Paparazzi have been lined up outside the courthouse all morning, and don't plan on leaving. Our news channel is also there, prepping to question the love interest of both men, Nikki Fields."
I dropped the remote in shock. They're going to question me? I hate questions. And I hate cameras. My two biggest fears in one.
"Alright babe, let's go." Liam stood in the doorway, out of breath.
I turned around and looked at him. I know he could see the shock on my face.
"What's wrong?" He didn't move from the doorway.
"They're gonna question me."
"They're gonna question all of us Nikki. We have nothing to hide, just be honest." Liam walked over to me and tugged on my hand. "Come on. Let's go."
I took a deep breath and followed Liam into the car. The whole ride my body was shaking of nervousness.
"Nikki." Liam out his hand on my thigh. "Calm down. It's gonna be okay."
I nodded, even though his words didn't help anything.
After about 20 minutes, we pulled up to the courthouse. There were camera crews everywhere. Then I saw the news team that said they wanted to question me. Me and Liam got out of the car, and tried to pass them up. But they're too fast. "Nikki Fields did you cheat on this man? Or was it the other one? Which one is your real boyfriend?"
"Liam is my fiancé." I covered my face from the flashing cameras.
"Wait, you cheated on your fiancé?" The reporter laughed. "You're a terrible person."
Liam wrapped his arm around me and pulled me into the building. We got in the building, but Liam turned around and went back out. "Listen here you idiots! You're gonna leave me and Nikki alone! And that's that!" Liam came back in the building and smiled. "Okay then. Let's go check in."
I walked up to the check in desk. It was the same lady that checked us in last time....the one that was hitting on Liam. "Hey." I got close to the desk and tried to block Liam from her sight.
"Oh. You." She rolled her eyes and typed something in her computer. "Did the man standing behind you screw up again?" She pointed at Liam and smirked.
"Yep. Must've gotten me pregnant again or something." I laughed out loud, but no one else did. The lady behind the desk made a face like I just slapped her. And Liam's face..how to describe it....scared. He turned as white as a ghost, and looked like he was about to pass out. "Liam?"
"Huh?" His face still had the shocked look on it.
"I'm not being serious. You know that, right? I'm not actually pregnant."
"Really." I could almost feel the receptionist lady roll her eyes.
"Wow. I thought I was gonna pee on myself." The color on Liam's face came back, and started breathing again. "So! Are we good to get in?"
The receptionist nodded and winked to Liam.
We just ignored her. We walked to the room (I guess you could call it) where Harry's trial was being held. Not many people were in there yet, only the people in the front and Harry's lawyers. Liam and I sat in the front row like last time. It was about a half an hour before and the judge came out.
Everyone stood as the judge was introduced. I could see Liam's smile grow as the doors to the courtroom opened again, revealing Harry.
I know she's looking at me. I know both of them are. But I'm not looking up..... I can't. Not without getting furious with myself for what I've done.
I just want him out of my sight forever... Out of our sight actually. If he ever comes near Nikki again....
"Hm?" She answered without turning around. Her glance was being held down on Harry.
She nodded, still not moving her eyes from Harry.
I've been trying to get Harry's attention for about 10 minutes now. We've already started the court session, and he hasn't looked up once. I'm not sure what to think of all of this. I mean, Harry was a big role in my life before the incident....I guess that's what you could call it. I just wish it wouldn't have happened. Everything would've been OK. I know it would've.
"Yeaaahhh!" Liam popped open a bottle of champagne, pouring it all over the floor in the living room.
"Liam I have to clean this up now. And I can't drink anyway." I walked in the kitchen to get some paper towels, with Liam following.
"So are you happy? About how it turned out?" Liam jumped up and sat on the counter.
"I don't know..."
Liam's eyes widened in shock. "You don't know? How do you not know? He shot me. I could've easily been dead. It was a miracle that the bullet wasn't that far into my skin. You should be beyond happy!" Liam jumped off the counter and got closer to me.
"I don't need you to tell me how I'm supposed to feel. I'm happy you're okay, but Harry and I have a long history. I-"
"Cheated on me. You cheated on me....with him."
I walked away from Liam. I can't do this right now. I'm not starting more drama. At least not with him.
"Nikki where are you going?"
"To go pick up Taylor." I grabbed my purse and keys and started heading out the door.
"I'm coming." Liam grabbed my arm before I could get outside.
"So I can't even drive to my Mom's house anymore? When are you gonna realize that you don't have control over me?!"
Liam raised his voice. "When you realize that you're 17! You can't do anything you want! Yes I may be your partner, but I still have to keep you safe."
"My partner? Really?" I pushed away from Liam and slammed the door on my way out. Without looking back, I drove to my Mom and Dad's house to pick up Taylor. I should probably just stay there for a little bit and let Liam calm down back at the house. I could use some one on one time with my parents anyway.
I pulled up to my parents' house just as my Dad was leaving to go to work. "Nikki!" My Dad pulled me in for a big long hug. "How'd it go?"
I sighed. "Good. Everything was...good."
"Great! Well I don't want to be late, so I'll see you later!" My Dad kissed my head and drove off.
I walked up the steps to my parent's apartment. Before I could even knock, my mom swung the door open. "Hey Nikki. Taylor's asleep. But you can take her if you want."
"Mom whats wrong?"
"Nothing. I just can't take much longer of having her. I'm sorry, but I thought the days of changing diapers were already behind me. I have a life besides your child. You're gonna have to get a babysitter."
"Um....thanks?" So much for the one on one time. "I guess I'll just grab her and go then." I walked into my parents' room where Taylor usually sleeps when she's here. I picked her up and grabbed her baby bag. "Bye Mom."
"Bye." She shut the door rather quickly. That was weird.
I got home and quickly put Taylor back to sleep. I didn't see Liam anywhere though. "Liam?"
"What?" His voice echoed from the bathroom.
I knocked on the bathroom door. "Hey what do you want for dinner?"
The bathroom door flew open, and Liam grabbed my face. He locked me in a soft kiss. "I'm sorry. I'm so sorry. I'm a jerk and I need to understand you and Harry were best friends. I'm sorry. I love you."
"I love you too."
"Let's go wake up Taylor and go get some dinner. Like a real family."
"Sounds good. And then I'll break the news to you that you have to take Taylor to her check up tomorrow."
"Ugh." Liam smiled. I missed that. A genuine smile. Not one out of hate or excitement, but just because.
