Reluctantly, I walked away from Harry and down the front steps of the school, hastily walking towards the parking lot, my boots making a slight scuffing noise as I unlocked my car and got in, starting the car and heading home to change clothes for a photo shoot I had this afternoon. As soon as I got on the highway heading home, my phone started to ring and, glancing at the caller ID, I saw that it was my mother. Sighing heavily, I answered it, letting it sit on the dashboard after pushing the button that changed it to speaker phone.
"Alice? Where are you?" My mothers stern, cold voice asked as it came through the small speaker of my iPhone.
"I'm on my way home now, Mom." I answered back in a controlled voice, being as polite as I could.
"Well you'd better hurry. I will not tolerate tardiness." She said coldly before hanging up the phone. There was no 'I love you' and no 'goodbye'. She just hung up and expected me to be punctual.
My mother and I weren't that close. Actually, we weren't close at all. We were always cold and indifferent to each other unless it was imperative that we be semi-loving towards one another, but that rarely happened. As for the rest of my family, I didn't have any. My dad died before I was born. My mom always told me that he had been a drug addict and had overdosed one night and died, leaving her to take care of me all by herself. I think she resents having a kid, especially one like me.
With thoughts of my father that I never knew running through my head, I pulled into my driveway and quickly ran into the house, heading straight up the stairs and into my bedroom, quickly changing clothes as fast as I could before once again climbing into my car and sped off down the road.
Upon arriving at the modeling agency, I was immediately swept into one of the many dressing rooms they had and my stylist and photographer, Stephanie, immediately gave me a new set of clothes to change into, which consisted of extremely tight black skinny jeans and a red peplum short sleeved top. When I was done dressing, I stepped out and Stephanie handed me a pair of red stilettos before ordering me to sit down in the chair in front of the huge mirror where loads of makeup was scattered across the counter.
"Ready Alice?" She asked politely as I nodded. She then began to work her magic on my face and hair, as per usual.
About halfway through doing my hair, Stephanie started a conversation with me.
"So, how have you been lately? Haven't seen you in a few weeks." She asked kindly. Stephanie was one of the nicest people you will ever meet. She was kind and considerate towards your feelings and never made you do a shoot that made you uncomfortable.
"Um, good I guess. Same old same old." I said, shrugging my shoulders, conveying my feelings silently. Glancing in the mirror, I saw Stephanie give me a sympathetic smile before returning to her work.
Stephanie understood my relationship with my mother better than anyone. She had gone through the same thing with her mother growing up. They were never close and always butted heads with each other, but now they were as close as they could possibly be, and that have me hope that some day, maybe, just maybe, my mother will see that I need a mother-daughter relationship as much as she did. Maybe then both our lives will start looking up for the better.
A few minutes passed in a comfortable silence as Stephanie put the finishing touches on me and I found my mind wandering off to the boy with the green eyes, who's name I now knew was Harry. I really hoped I see him again soon. He seemed like a genuine and happy person to be around, and I needed someone like him in my life. I needed some happiness.
Several hours later, my photo shoot was finally over and I headed back into my dressing room, changing back into my regular clothes and throwing my hair up into a messy ponytail, wiping as much makeup off my face as possible before heading out into the chilly air outside and getting into my car. My mother had already left and would probably be asleep by the time I got home, so I decided to stop by the towns Starbucks to get some coffee to keep me awake long enough to get all my assignments for the next day completed.
As I stepped in the quaint shop, I noticed that it was virtually empty tonight, which I was thankful for so I didn't waste as much time waiting in a long line to order.
As I got closer to the counter, I noticed a familiar set or curls as green eyes staring back at me as I prepared to order.
"Hey Harry." I said while smiling as the brunette gave me a surprised yet happy smile.
"Alice." He nodded at me before proceeding to ask for my order.
"One medium vanilla bean frapuccino please." I said as he nodded, writing something I couldn't make out in black sharpie on my cup.
After giving him the money for my drink, we engaged in a small conversation about the unfairness of homework before I was handed my drink, and bidding Harry farewell for now, I went home and started on my homework, but not before I saw what he wrote on my cup, and what he wrote made a giant smile to grave my lips.
He had written his phone number along with a cheesy line to call him maybe.
Before starting my homework though, I sent him a quick text before diving I to the worst form of torture and, eventually, falling asleep.
