Monday came around quickly. I was still getting used to my new job; Seven dollars an hour and i was working part time every day i came in. It wasn't a lot of money but it would do. Whisper told me that somebody comes by every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday to sings for a little money. I couldn't wait to see and hear this guy.
"Hey, Farrah." Collin approached me. "What happened Saturday night?"
"Oh, my gosh!" I mentally face-palmed myself. "I completely forgot. I had to take over for somebody at this place where i got a new job. Oh, my gosh. I'm so sorry."
He gave me a small smile. "It's alright, I guess. Perhaps we can try this Friday?"
"Perhaps not..." i said. He looked at me. "I'm working Friday from four to eight... every week."
His smile sunk and was replaced with a frown. "Maybe Saturday?"
"You got it!" I smiled. He smiled back and began walking away. "Wait!" I stopped him. He turned on his heels to look at me. His blue-green eyes made contact with my boring gray eyes. I scribbled my number down on a scrap piece of paper and handed it to him. "You might want to remind me so that I don't forget."
"Of course, love." he winked.
I blushed and he walked away.
"You're talking to Mr. Prep again, are you?" Justin's voice startled me.
I turned to face him. "Yes, and his name is Collin." His face cringed. "I know his name." Justin spat.
My school day went by quickly, as I hoped it would. Nothing really happened today (except for that little controversy), just assigned more work. Allie was excited for her parent's Wedding Anniversary. She couldn't wait to get the house to herself. She told me that they usually took five days in whatever exotic place they were in, but since they said they were going to take longer we would be alone in the house longer.
When i got home from school, I changed into my shirt and khakis. I had another hour. I was only working every other day through out the week, and i didn't work at all on weekends. It wouldn't be all bad, considering that that singing guy would be here everyday i would be here.
Maybe he could serenade me. Write me a song. Then we'd fall in love, get married, have children, and live happily ever after.
I snorted at my thoughts. I gave up on my fairytale a long time ago.
I walked down to the bus stop today because Allie was out with one of her friends. The bus came around and the ride was... well, awkward. I had to walk another two minutes to get to the small eatery but i was on time.
"Hey, Farrah." Whisper greeted me.
"So remember the guy i told you about?" he asked, "The one that comes by and sings?" I nodded. "Just reminding you that he's coming by today."
How could I forget? I could maybe like him...
"What did you say?" Whisper turned to me. I guess I let that slip."Nothing," I lied. "He'll be here in about twenty minutes. Clock in, and then you can get to work." He ordered. I nodded.
Him being so demanding took away from how attractive he is.
I clocked in and began washing the dishes just until people started rolling in for dinner.
A young married couple- I suppose because of the nice ring on the lady's left ring finger- came in and sat down in my section.
Here I go.
"Hi. My name is Farrah. I'll be serving this evening. Can i start you off with anything to drink?" I set menus in front of them.
"Two sweet teas, please, Ms. Farrah." The man said. I smiled. "Of course. They'll be right out." I scribbled down their drink order and went to get them.
I filled up two cups with sweet tea and went back to them. They ordered their main entree and did whatever else I needed to. I went around serving the other people in my section. When everyone seemed to be satisfied I sat in a booth in the back and started doing my extra work. I wrapped a few dozen forks and knives before I heard the door ring. I stood up, and saw Justin. I slouched. I noticed that he had a guitar case strapped on.
"You're late! You were supposed to be hear twenty minutes ago!" Larry, the chef and co-owner, yelled from the kitchen. "I know. I had to get my homework done."
I tried hiding my face my looking down and trying to look focused on what i was doing. "Hey, can you watch this while I'm in the bathroom?" a deep, low voice asked me. I knew who it was. "Sure." I tried to disguise my voice. "Thanks." i nodded and continued working. After a minute the curiosity was killing me. I wanted to see the guitar.
I propped it up onto the table and started to open it.
"Nuh uh uh." Justin hands touched mine before I could unlock the case. I instantly looked away so he wouldn't notice me. "This isn't yours now is it?" He touched my shoulder. I shrugged.
"So you aren't going to talk to me, cutie?"
I shook my head no.
"That's the first." Justin chuckled. "Never had a girl say 'no' to me before."
I cringed in disgust. I could just imagine every girl throwing themselves at him with no self-respect of any kind.
I heard him walk away and i let out a sigh of relief.
"Miss.. Um Miss?" I came back to reality. "Can we get our check?" An old couple said, oh so, sweetly. "Sure," I smiled. i stood up and walked over to them. I handed them the check.
Old people are so cute... I thought.
They paid and left a five dollar tip.
Old people are so nice...
All of a sudden a soft hum of guitar strings started playing. I turn around and saw the Walking One-Night Stand sitting a wooden stool with an acoustic guitar sitting on his lap.
Can't wait to see this...
