Exactly five months after our wedding, it was time to find out the gender of our baby. Case booked the appointment for 11 a.m., so we got up at 9:30 to get ready. Every day I would press my ears on Case’s belly to listen to the baby’s heart beat; I just couldn’t believe that we were about to have a little family together.
“Babe, you ready?” I called her from the front door.
“Yep! I’m coming! I can’t really run anymore with a belly this size!” she yelled back.
“Be careful! Don’t trip!” I said cautiously.
“Alright! Let’s go!” she chuckled as she finally reached the front door.
On the way to the hospital, we started to guess about the gender. “I think it’s gonna be a girl,” I said excitedly.
“I’m happy for either gender, but if it’s a boy, I can teach him soccer and turn him into a Derby fan in the future!” Niall said with a huge smile on his face.
“Let’s say if it’s really a he, what will be his name?” I asked.
“Hmmm, I’ve always liked the name Joey. I think it’s cute,” he suggested.
“That is quite cute! What about if it’s a she?”
“ I’ve never really thought about girls’ names. What do you think?” he asked back.
“Well, I have a few in mind. I like Maya, Isabelle, and Christine.”
“I like Isabelle! Her nickname could be Bella or Izzy!” he exclaimed.
“Yeah! So I guess we have the names figured out! If it’s a boy, his name will be Joey; if it’s a girl, her name will be Isabelle!”
It was just about time when we pulled into the parking lot of the hospital. As we waited for our turn, his hands were constantly holding mine; I knew that he was super hyper and excited.
“Casey Horan?” the nurse called out after a five-minute wait. I’ve become used to my new last name.
“Yep! Right here!” Niall answered for me and got up immediately to pull me into the well-illuminated room.
“Alright, folks! You ready to find out if you’re having a baby girl or a baby boy?” the doc asks enthusiastically as we entered.
“Let’s do this!” I said.
He began to put some of those icy smooth gel on my belly and began the ultrasound. “Your baby’s heart is beating normally, that’s good,” he said, “and the gender is…” he paused to give us some suspense.
“A girl? A boy?” Potato asked impatiently.
“Congratulations, Mr. and Mrs. Horan! Your baby is a girl!” the doctor shouted.
“Oh my god, Niall! We’re having a baby girl!” I shouted too and stood up from the stool to wrap my arms about Nialler’s neck.
“Awe, Babe! You were right! We are having a little Izzy or Bella! This is so exciting!” he exclaimed as he hugged me back.
“So it sounds like you’ve decided a name for the baby?” the doctor asked to distracted us a bit.
“Yeah! Her name is going to be Isabbelle, so that there are many logical nicknames for her!” I answered.
“That’s great! Ok! I guess I will see you guys one more just a month before the predicted due date!”
Both of us couldn’t hide our smiles as we walked to the car. “Isabelle Horan—the name is just beautiful!” he complimented.
“I know right! Time to call the gang (1D+5SOS) and announce the news!” I said.
On the way home, we stopped at a red light—normal. As the light turned green, and Niall stepped on the gas pedal, a truck was headed our direction from the side with red light. We thought that he would stop, but he didn’t; he smashed right into us before Niall could react. The next think I knew was waking up from the blackness in a hospital bed. Instead of having a celebration party at our house, everyone was sitting or standing beside my hospital bed. What the fuck happened?
hat the fuck happened?
