You are riding the bus back home from work with your boyfriend. He’s talking about something—you aren’t sure what, for you hadn’t been paying attention, too tired to think. Once you tune in, though, you know immediately what, or in this case, whom, he was talking about.
There was a new girl at work today. All of the guys-single or not-had been eager to meet her. Your boyfriend had already come pretty close to her, and it was only the first day! Okay, maybe she was as pretty as the girls featured in magazines… maybe she was smart… but he hardly knew her!
No one can fall in love at first sight, you think as you listen to your boyfriend drone on and on. Just then the bus stops, and another passenger climbs aboard. He has black hair that is both messy but styled at the same time, brown eyes, and looked absolutely stunning. As he walks to the back of the bus, your gazes meet, and your heart stops. Nevermind, you think as he smiles at you, I do believe in love at first sight.
You suddenly realize that your boyfriend has asked you a question. “Sorry?” you stutter.
Your boyfriend says, “Oh, I just thought that you look a little tired and asked you if you were okay.”
"Yeah," you say, "I’m good." You smile at him. He smiles back and gives you a hug. The bus stops again, and this time at the station that you get off of. You say goodbye to your boyfriend and head off for your house. For the rest of the night, you can’t get the image of the stranger out of your head. It was something about him. He was unforgettable.
The next week
You are sitting on a bench in the town park, trying not to cry. Your boyfriend had just dumped you today. You were hurt, for you had been dating for quite a long time. He had said that there was someone else-the new girl, no doubt.
Hugging yourself, you are surprised to hear a voice talking to you. “Hey.”
You look up to see the guy from the bus you had seen a week ago. “Are you okay?” he asks.
You sniffle. “Yeah,” you say, hoping you do not sound too miserable, “I’m fine.”
The stranger tilts his head. “You don’t look like it,” he comments.
You let out a little laugh. “Well…” you say, still sniffling, “My boyfriend just dumped me today for someone else. She’s so much prettier than me… so much better than me.”
"Don’t say that," he says, "You’re beautiful. It’s his loss, not yours." He pauses for a minute. "What’s your name?"
"(Y/N)(Y/L/N)," you say. "What’s yours?"
"Zayn Malik." Zayn pauses again for a moment. "Well, (Y/N), since you’re single now, may I ask you something?"
"Sure," you say.
"How would you like to go out with me this Saturday? We could have dinner together or something."
You can’t help but smile, “Yeah, I’d love to.”
