The first week of school had blown by so fast in a blur of note taking, rushing to classes, and catching up with everyone. Jeannine had already snagged a boyfriend three days ago named Mike Greenside, a Gryffindor playboy with bleach-blonde hair. I had begun walking with Sam from class to class each day, listening to him talk about different techniques he was going to use for his Quittage tryout that was only two days away. James was captain this year and would be in charge of picking teams along side of Professor McGonagal, leaving me with worrisome doubts about how fair his choices would be. Just about everyone knew that James and Sam were at each others throats for me now; which by the way, isn't the most comforting thought.
"Are you okay, Lily?"
Sam's voice penetrated my thoughts. I snapped out of it and looked up at him confused.
"What?" I asked.
"I said are you okay. You were spacing out for a minute there."
"Oh," I explained, "I was just thinking about that new assignment Flitwick assigned us."
"Yeah, I don't get it at all," he sighed," Maybe you could help me study for it?"
I could see a small smirk on his face that meant he wasn't interested in misuse of cleaning charms.
"I'll have to check my schedule, but I think I could help you study for a bit." I held my books close to my chest.
"Oy! Sam! You gotta check out Edgewood's new racing broom!" Bryce hollered from across the courtyard.
He looked at me with excited eyes as he kissed me on the cheek.
"I'll see you later, Lily." He sprinted over towards them as others ooed and awed over the broom.
"Okay, bye," I wistfully added, waving goodbye.
I watched him run in his uniform and I noticed his golden hair flowing slightly as the wind rushed through his-
"Love sick are we, Evans?"
Sirius' voice appeared behind me, causing me to jump. I spun around to see him smirking, his hands folded innocently.
"Wipe that smirk off your face." I hissed.
"Good to see you as well."
"What do you want, Sirius?" I asked, paranoid someone would swoop down on a broomstick and rocket me into the air again.
"Oh nothing, I was just wondering if I could have a word with you for a moment?" He asked, pacing back a forth.
I lifted a suspicious eyebrow.
"It depends." I explained.
"I'll take that as a yes."
I rolled my eyes.
"I know that recent events have caused you to no longer feel a romantic emotion towards Mr. James Potter-"
"Stop right there. If this 'word for a moment' is a way of you being James' mouthpiece to talk to me, then I want no part in this conversation!"
"Evans, that's not what this is about."
"Then what is this about?"
"It's about Quittage tryouts."
I was confused.
"What do you mean, Quittage tryouts?"
"I mean, James is the captain and Sam is trying out. And mostly the fact that rumors have been going around that James will kick him out of tryouts faster than you can say Quittage."
"And I want to let you know that James isn't that shallow of a guy. And I want you to know that his decision will solely be based off of performance."
"That being said," He began, " Sam might suck and in that case, he will have no choice but to kick him off the team."
I bit my cheek and smiled.
"He wont suck because he's fantastic. I've seen him play and he might be better than that pompous James Potter himself! And let me just say, that will make the team and has got his eye on the Captain's spot for next year!" I spun around on my heels and stormed off t my next class, filled with adrenaline.
