Lena, Ezra, and the girls went baby clothes looking on that Saturday. After going shopping Lena knew she wanted a little girl. Ezra didn’t really care as long as they had a healthy baby.
Then 3 months had past and Lena had gained about 5 pounds. Nobody at school really noticed. But Lena knew by next month everyone would know.
As Lena walked into the school her best guy friend, Matt, was running to catch up to her.
“Hey, Lena wait up!” Matt yelled after Lena
“Hey what’s up?” Lena said after Matt caught up to her.
“Nothing much. I haven’t talk to you in awhile and were best friends. What’s up with that?” Matt asked.
“Oh, I have been so busy. Stuff at home has just gotten so crazy.” Lena said to him.
“Oh, what’s been going on?” Matt asked.
“Well, I honestly don’t know how I am going to tell you this. It was so easy to tell everyone else but I don’t know why it is this hard to tell you.” Lena said.
“Lena we have known each other for so long, longer than I can remember. You can tell me anything.” Matt told her.
“Matt, I’m pregnant.” Lena told him.
“Oh, I see. I am assuming with Ezra’s baby?” Matt asked her.
“Yeah it’s his baby.” Lena said.
“I see. I have been meaning to talk to you about something lately.” Matt said.
“Oh what is it?” Lena asked.
“I’d rather not talk about it here. Can we meet after we have our practices?” Matt asked her.
“Yeah sure. What time do you get done with football practice?’’ She asked him.
“4:30.” Matt told her.
“Okay. I am done about the same time. Do you want to just sit in the stadium and talk?” Lena said.
“Yeah that’s fine.” Matt said.
Just then the bell rang and Matt and Lena went to their classes.
Lena and Matt got threw their practices. Lena was at the stadium before Matt but it didn’t take Matt long to get to the stadium.
“So what did you want to talk about?” Lena asked.
“This is really hard for me to tell you because I know how much you love Ezra and I know he loves you too. Also now that you’re pregnant with his baby I don’t know how much this is going to affect you. But, ever since middle school I have had a crush on you. But now being a senior and having grown up with you I know that I love you Lena.” Matt admitted to her.
“Oh wow. I’m shocked.” Lena said.
“I know that you probably don’t love me back but I just wanted you to know that I really do love you.’’ Matt said.
“I see. Matt I love you too just not the way that you love me. I love you as my brother and my best friend. Even if I broke up with Ezra I don’t know if I would ever love you the same way you love me. I’m sorry.” Lena said.
“It’s okay. I understand. I just wanted you to know.” He told her.
“Oh I see.” She said.
“Yeah. So you’re pregnant?” Matt asked.
“Oh yeah. I almost forgot.” Lena said with a tiny laugh.
“How far along are you?” He asked.
“3 months.” Lena told him.
“3 months. How could you not have told me?” Matt asked.
“I don’t know. I am just scared for people to know.” Lena said.
“I’m one of your best friends you can tell me anything.” He said.
“Yeah I know. I just don’t want to have to deal with a lot of people knowing.” Lena said.
“Well everyone is going to know eventually.” He told her.
“Yeah I know.” Lena said.
“What do you want to have?” Matt asked.
“A girl.” Lena told him.
“I see.” He said.
“Well I should be going,” Lena said, “Tons of homework.”
“Okay. I’ll see you tomorrow.” Matt said.
As Lena was leaving the parking lot she was thinking about what Matt had said. How he loved her. How could she have not seen it before? She felt so horrible that she couldn’t love him back but then she also knew that she loved Ezra and she knew that it wasn’t her fault that she couldn’t love him back the same way he loves her. Were just friends she thought just friends.
