Chapter 2: The Most Amazing Girl in The World, Named Eleanor
November 24, Day 1, 9:37 P.M.
That saved a wretch like me.
I once was lost but now am found,
Was blind, but now I see.
“Fantabulous show ladies and gents!” I howled with euphoria to my cast and crew. We all roared with cheers of jubilation everywhere.
I took a wide stride to the dressing rooms with a nice wide beam of a grin. As I hunted through my purse for my phone, I heard the familiar ringtone of Royals by Lorde. Daddy.
I’ve never seen a
diamond in the flesh
I cut my teeth on wedding rings
in the movies
This just made me search harder for the stupid phone. A glint of my screen in the upper-right-hand corner gave me a hint to where it was.
“Hello?” I answered even though I knew it was my dad.
“Hello, Ellie.” He answered in a friendly tone. “I just wanted to know if you wanted to go to dinner with your mother and I on Friday.”
“Will you and mama criticize me for becoming an actress?” I asked in a suspicious manner.
“No.” Was his simple reply. Somehow I didn’t believe him. “We haven’t had dinner with our youngest daughter in such a long time. Please?”
I finally caved in, sure they were going to criticize me for not having a boyfriend, becoming an actress, living in a small apartment. Everything my older sister Ema was, that I wasn’t. She had a steady boyfriend of two years, a successful neurosurgeon, and lived in a nice little cottage with Freddy in Macon, Georgia.
Finally I decided to go back to my cast-mates, after changing back into my normal clothes. I saw that they were all crowded around some people, laughing hysterically. At that moment Olivia turned around to face me, and waved me over.
I joined the group, five boys all faced me, not bad looking I must admit.
“This is Eleanor Dennis, the most amazing girl in the world.” Olivia explained to the boys.
“Why thank you madame.” I uttered to the hazel-eyed beauty. “This is Olivia Gordon, the most amazing actress, and friend in the world.”
“Well if you are the most amazing girl in the world, we must get to know you.” One of the boys spoke. Chuckling as he did so. “Niall Horan, at your service.” He held out his hand to shake. I shook it with my green-finger-nailed hand. All I could say about him, was that he had a killer smile.
“Aren’t your friends going to introduce me to themselves?” I said in a hushed tone, so they could hear me, so they would do so.
“Hi, Eleanor, I’m Louis.” Louis shook my hand with a small smirk on his face.
“Nice to meet you, Eleanor, I am Liam.” This one gave me a friendly smile.
“What’s up, I’m Zayn.” Zayn gave me a small upward head nod.
“Harry.” He looked like he more important things to do than be here.
“Hi, I’m Ellie, how do you like me so far?” I gave them my usual introduction to people I don’t know.
“We’re One Direction.” The group of them chorused.
“I know, I don’t live under a rock.” I said with an “I-knew-that” smile on my face.
Just as I said that a woman, who looked like she was in her late fifties approached me. “Raquel Sherd, One Direction’s manger.” She then looked at the boys, “As much as I’m sure you want to talk to Eleanor, I need to talk to her and Harry.”
The wrinkled old woman led me and the boy who looked bored out of his mind over to a little corner.
“Hello Eleanor, I saw the play, you are a wonderful actress might I say.” She mused, a genuine smile planted on her trap. “Well, since you are such an amazing actress, I was wondering, do you want another job? Seeing as how this was the last show of Once before the tour across America, I just wanted to know.”
“Well, I need a little more information on the job.” I babbled as an awkward smile started to grow across my face like a garden of weeds. “I mean if it entails working in an office, I would kindly have to decline the offer. Acting is the only thing I do.”
“Oh, it’s acting. You see, Harry has been getting a bad rep, so I figured you could be his quote-on-quote ‘girlfriend’. You will get paid handsomely, very handsomely.”
“Oh, I don’t think I could do that. I’m sorry, that just means I’m away from Broadway.”
“Do I get a say in this?” Harry asked in an annoyed tone.
“No.” Raquel spoke not even looking in his general direction. She looked back at me. “Oh honey, I wasn’t asking. I just wanted to let you know, your going on tour with One Direction in a week. You may tell no one except the boys, Harry. In the mean time I want you two to spend some time together. Your check will appear in a few days for the next week’s ‘getting-to-know-each-other’, I expect you to go out in public.”
Well that’s how my life got switched around. From a girl working on Broadway with my best friend, to a ‘girlfriend’ of One Direction’s one and only Harry Styles.
