My mom was looking outside the window while driving.
I could tell she didn’t want to talk about what happened.
How can David be dead? I just talked to him a couple of days ago.
We drove home in silence.
She parked in the driveway and we got out of the car. My mom was fumbling with the
“Shit,” she cursed.
“Hey, I got it,”I said.
I took the keys away from her, and opened the door. She ran into her room and locked the door.
I had never seen or heard her curse, so it was unusual to me.
I knocked on her door. “Mom are you okay?”
She didn't answer, so I decided to pick the lock.
I opened the door and witnessed her crying.
“How can he be dead?” she sniffled.
“I remember how we used to go to the beach when you were little. Things were so simple then. Look at me now, I can barely take care of myself.”
“That's not true.”
She held onto me, and we were silent for a couple of minutes.
“I wonder what it would be like if we never had that fight.”
I thought about how he visited me. “I bet he still loves you, I know he does.”
At night I thought about how I had ignored the letter David sent me.
He still cared, but I didn’t.
At least everything is over. I can go back to living the life I asked for.
In my dream I was sitting in a blank room.
The numbers 4514 were written everywhere.
IT’S JUST A DREAM I thought
The room echoed, It’s jUST A DREAM...It’s jUST A DREAM...It’s jUST A DREAM.
I looked everywhere. It was as if someone was whispering in my ear.
I covered my ears.
“Please make it stop”
“Please make it stop”
“PLEASE make it STOP’
I uncovered my ears and opened my eyes.
“Where am I?”
“You're in the interlayers of hell”
“Interlayers? What are you talking about?”I asked.
I realized that I was in the hospital, but it was dark.
It was so black I couldn’t see anything.
Just then David appeared next to me.
“Whatever you do, don’t open it.”
“Where are you Dad? I can help you.”
“You can’t help me now. Just get out of here.”
I was trapped in the hole again.
“Just don’t open it.”
“OPEN WHAT?” I screamed, more terrified than ever.
I opened my eyes and I was sitting at the kitchen table.
“Mellisa, you have got to stop sleeping late.”
“Get ready, the bus is almost here.”
I grabbed my bookbag and headed towards the bus stop.
I arrived late, again.
Once I got to school I ran to first block.
I sat down at Mrs. Williams class.
“Late again Mrs. Jones?”
“Yeah,” I flat out said.
“I think the bus just doesn’t like me anymore.”
She frowned and carried on writing. I heard a few chuckles.
I glanced and saw Joseph He was wearing the same clothes from the car crash, and when I tried to talk to him he didn’t answer. I heard Joseph sneeze, and he excused himself from the classroom.
I waited for him after class, and he kept on walking. I finally caught up with him and asked him what was wrong.
“I’m just sick.”
“Oh,” I said.
I could see black circles around his eyes, and they were puffy from crying.
He sneezed again, and his nose started bleeding.
The only odd thing about it was that it was black.
