I sat up and looked out the window.
"Good Morning, or should I say good afternoon."
I stared at this dark skin nurse that was monitoring my blood pressure.
"You were asleep for three hours."
I say the only thing that I could think about.
"Is Joseph here?"
"Yes, that's him."
She looks down. For a moment I think she's not going to say anything, but then she speaks up.
"He's been in a coma."
She sees the look on my face and apologies.
"I'm sorry, but you can't see him until you get better. It has to be a family memeber anyway."
The nurse walks out of the room.
Joseph's mom comes in my room.
"I heard you were in the hospital."
Sara comes closer to me.She puts down a bouquet of flowers.
"Daisies, my favorite."
"Hey, these are the only ones they had," she chuckles.
"The doctors say you fractured your arm."
I move my arm a little and there's a slight pain.My teeth clench.
“The doctor said that once you get back into things that you can go back home.”
“I want to see Joseph.”
“I know, you’re one of his friends right?”
“Once I heard about the accident.I came straight away.I didn’t come yesterday because I thought your mom was visiting;you know how work is.”
“Yeah, I understand, “ I say disappointed.
“Hey.I know it’s hard, but everything’s gonna be alright, “ she reassures me.
We talk for a while and she says she’s worried about Joseph. My mind goes blank.I can’t bare to see him gone.Especially because of his mom. She’ll be heartbroken.
“I have to go now.I’ll see you later.”
“Bye,”I say and smile.
My mom comes a little later.I could tell she hasn’t been up since last night.
“Melissa, “she says quietly.
She rushes in my room and hugs me.
“I want you to come home with me.Strange things have been happening.”
“Ever since you left, I’ve been alone.”
Her breath is warm on my shoulder.Tears were pouring down her face. Her makeup was smudged.
“I don’t want to go.”
She pulls away from me.
“What do you mean you don’t want to go. ”
I start crying without even knowing it.
“I’m scared mom.I don’t want to go back. ”
The nurse comes back into my room.
“He’s awake. ”
