The hours passed and I talked from time to time with the groups so I could suggest any of my ideas with the dancers and we thought about a solution, so it would be even better and more perfect.
Satisfied, I gave myself a break, sat down on a sofa and looked over on the whole crews. All danced, laughed and took counsel. And I had to admit that it looked insanely good.
I glanced in the corner where Grace and the remaining swimmers had gathered, but this place was now empty. They went to a swimming pool hours ago. I sighed and looked back, but winced when I noticed that someone was standing right in front of me.
"Boo!," Nick whispered and scared me half to death.
"Shit, man. What's up?," I asked and he laughed.
"My dancers took a break and I thought I'd join you."
He grinned widely at me and I grabbed without batting an eye my bottle to drink from it.
"What is it, Jus? Do you miss the little swim team, as you have been staring down there?"
I tensed briefly and then put the bottle down. Just as I was about to say something, he said "I can understand if you are concerned whether you get everything right, now that Grace is not even here. But she'll come back and till then you'll make it!"
He slapped me on the back and then laughed again. I half smiled.
Seconds later, Maya came down to us.
"Nick, Trey and Cody argue over a few steps. Can you show them how to do it properly?" she asked and Nick nodded and stood up.
We watched him for a moment before Maya dropped onto the sofa next to me.
"Exhausting, these guys," she sighed, brushing a few strands from her face.
"As if girls were different," I laughed and she grinned at me.
"You don’t have to understand us, you just have to love us," she said and I laughed even more.
"As if that would be easy," I said and she rolled her eyes with a grin.
"It is," she said, and came a little closer. "You have to make compliments, give good advice, pay attention to little things, be close and at the same time distant. That's mysterious and sexy. Irresistible."
She raised an eyebrow and bit her lower lip. Her eyes wandered slowly from my eyes to my mouth and again up to my eyes.
My lips curled into a smile, we were so close that I could feel her breath on my mouth. When someone called her name, she began to smile and stood up.
"You only have to try," she whispered and walked away.
I looked after her and let my eyes slide over her body.
Maybe I was sometimes not the brightest, but I knew exactly when a girl had a crush on me. I had learned it by now. I had to admit that Maya was pretty hot, but I had no remorse, after all I wanted to talk to Selena anyway.
In the late afternoon, a pair of dancers had gone after they had their part done.
I chatted with Nick and exchanged looks with Maya, who stood a few feet away at another group. The group slowly parted and Nick slapped me one last time on my back to say goodbye, before he turned and left.
Maya came slowly up to me, but then stopped and looked past me. Her eyes were a little bigger and her cheeks and her smile faded.
Finally, I turned around.
The hall was about to empty, as a girl with sunglasses entered tit and everyone stared at her. With confident steps she went through the hall with her black high heels and her high ponytail bouncing with each step. Her long legs finally met on the black fabric of the under part of the jumpsuits she wore. This lead into a white with studded top, which was closed in front with a zipper. Her tanned skin shimmered slightly and she smiled as she ran to me.
"Hey, baby," she said and hugged me.
"You look amazing," I could only stutter and her smile widened.
"Thanks," she said, sitting off the glasses, so she could put in her hair.
Then she looked around and everyone who'd been staring at her lowered now their eyes. The talks began again and the hall emptied a little slower. I cleared my throat and turned her attention back to me.
"Shall we look for a place where it is a little quieter?" I asked and she nodded.
I took her hand and headed for the only room above the hall. It contained a table, chairs and a sofa. It was the room where the first time I properly had talked with Grace. I just shook my head and tried to push it out of my mind. It wouldn't help thinking about her now.
I opened the door and Sel sat on the sofa while I closed the door again. As I turned back to her, the zipper was not as high as at the beginning.
"So... it's quiet now," she said and I nodded.
Then I sat down beside her and said "Listen... we need to talk."
Her gaze was fixed automatically and she asked "About what?"
"Us," I answered and she just pulled an eyebrow, which meant that I should keep talking. "So... I think not only I noticed that it's not going well between us, as at the beginning. We argue so often and your jealousy..." I shook my head. "This can't go on for me. I am sorry. It's over."
I waited for a response, but none came. Only now I noticed that she hadn't interrupted me. She just sat there staring at me.
"You're sorry?," she whispered in a choked voice. "You are sorry?!" she said again, louder this time. "Who do you think you are?!" she snapped and her eyes shot poison darts at me. She pointed to herself. "I did not realize that it's no longer as good as in the beginning. The only one, who is really jealous, is you! I can't meet Tay or any other guy! While you..." She paused and squinted. "Let me guess! This Greta has something to do with it!"
Confused, I looked at her and said "Her name is Grace."
"That's a yes!," she said and stood up. "How dare you to cheat on me, Justin?" she snapped at me and I rose also.
"I didn't! Grace has absolutely nothing to do with it! This is just about me and you!"
"I've seen, that there's something between you two! Do you think I'm stupid so I wouldn't realize how much you changed through this work with this girl?"
"It's not about her," I said desperately, but she didn't believe me.
Suddenly, someone threw open the door and Grace and Jeremy came laughing into the room. Immediately they stopped when they saw us.
"You!," Sel said with an acid tone, pointing to Grace. "This is your entire fault, Greta! Do you think it’s funny to push yourself between Justin and me and destroy our relationship?!"
Grace looked scared and confused, and stammered "My name is..."
"I don't care about your fucking name!," Selena screamed and Jeremy pushed himself protectively between his sister and my freaking ex-girlfriend.
It was as if Grace suddenly came back to her senses, stood next to her brother and put her hands on her hips.
"So, first of all, my name is Grace, not Greta. Secondly, I've really no idea what's going on here. I'm just out of the pool and want to get my bag, so I can finally go home." She pointed to a lonely bag in a corner. "And thirdly, I don't want anything from Justin. So stop shouting at me, I'm not the problem."
Selena crossed her arms and looked at her dismissively.
"You don't?" she asked and I looked at Grace.
She glared at me and then looked at Selena before she said coldly, "Justin is definitely the last person in the entire hall from whom I expect something."
Jeremy laughed and I felt a surprising pain in my chest.
Selena began to smile and also one spread on Grace's face.
"I think we'll get along well," said Selena and Grace just nodded.
"I'll give you my number and then you can call me. And who are you anyway?" Sel asked Jeremy, who picked Graces bag up.
"I'm Jeremy, her brother," he said, smiling at Sel.
"Cute," Selena said, glanced at me and then linked arms with Grace.
"Bye, Justin," said the girls together and left the room.
"Well," said Jeremy and paused at the door. He looked at me and said "Now it probably doesn't matter whether you come to us and I am there. Whether with or without me - Grace alone will make your stay even to hell." He shrugged his shoulders, left the room and closed the door.
Left behind I stood in the bare room and felt like being in a bad movie.
What the hell had just happened?!
